Slots Coins in & out... Who still has them

My trip is coming up and my girlfriend wants to know if coin in/out machines still exist in vegas other than at gas stations. I know over the past 5 years they've pretty much gone extinct. Anyone have a clue?

 

Last year they still had them at slots a fun...I don't know if maybe downtown may have some.

 

The California definitely has some coin VP machines.

 

El Cortez downtown still has plenty of them. The old school reel slots and the older VP machines are the dinosaurs that are still hanging in there.

I must admit, I still like that sound of the coins hitting that metal hopper, but when I see someone who's fingers are black from the coinage, makes me appreciate the Tito's.

In my memory from the last year two I know slots of fun and Mermaids downtown had them.

 

Last year bar top VP at Slots o Fun were still coin out.

 

I think the coins used to SLOW down my gambling...maybe I should go back to them!

If memory serves me right, most of the novelty slots at the strip casinos have them (u know the giant slot machines that everyone tries to get their picture taken at). I know the ones at Bally's pay out large $1 coins and I saw two at Mandalay Bay that do the same. Only downside is that anything over $200 is a handpay

 

Correction, the big novelty slots are only coin out machines, not coin-in. They just take dollar bills

 

I miss the clinking sound in the tray. I remember going to bed at night and still hearing that sound in my head. Ahhh, those were the days. Soon they will be a thing of the past and the only place you will find them is in a museum or at an auction. The casinos have a much better advantage by using the tickets instead of coins so there really is no incentive to ever go back.

 

Well, I was thinking maybe they could have a nostalgia section to place a handful of coin machines and run a promo as another gimmick to get someone to come back, heck, I would. I just wish those damn pesky penny machines would go away. but on that not, does anyone know if the copper mill at the gold spike still exists?

I had to laugh when I read this. I remember the first time I went to Reno and hit the bed, I couldn't get the plink, plink, plink out of my head. Way too funny!!!

 

Well on my april trip, I walked through tons of strip and downtown casinos and only found coin in/out slots at the El cortez and slots o fun. I went into all the freemont casinos and only found ticket in/out. I had fun at sof and was nice to feel the weight of a bucket full of quarters again.

 

When I was out there in February the Skyline out on Boulder Highway was still coin and not paper.

 

I recently read (maybe in Casino Player?) that an Atlantic City resort was going to put in a section of coin operated slots for a retro feel.

 

I was hoping vegas would add a retro section, but the probably depneds if they sold off their coin counters at the cashiers.

 

When they started the changeover, I thought most people would object, instead I found that I was in the minority. I guess if you are a serious slot player it was the way to go. In my case, without the lure of the coins hitting the metal tray, I just have no desire or temptation to play slots at all. I understand why casinos like the paper in/out but it's sure not as much fun in my mind.
