Smile Hello from upstate NY

Hello all, We are justvisiting from NY state. Hubby has never been in LV but I lived there for a few years in the early 80s. We have spoken often about visiting LV but something else always came up. Now we are on our way!!! We will be there the 1st week in April and can't wait. Things have changed so much since I moved back to NY that we will have lots of questions. I have been doing a lot of online research and this site looks like just what we need. We will be staying at Circus Circus, hubby is a blackjack player and I play poker, low limit Holdem and 7stud. I understand that 7stud may be difficult to find with the Holdem craze in force. Any suggestions and or advice would be welcome. Thanks

Hi justvisiting. Welcome aboard. Just curious, what made you pick Circus Circus?

How is Circus Circus still in business?

Default Hello from upstate NY

Thanks DonD, Staying at Circus Circus for 2 reasons. Memories and insufficent research. When I lived in LV I had an apartment just off Sahara within walking distanceof Circus Circus and played there often. I also hope to show hubby the areas of my misspent youth and since I will not drive in LV ( it was bad enough in the early 80s) we want to walk around the old neighborhood. I have since discovered that Circus Circus was probably not the best choice but all we really need is a clean place to get alittle sleep for this trip.

I doubt you will even get that. I would not walk in that neighborhood either. Stay on the strip or carry a weapon.

Welcome to the board justvisiting! You will certainly find plenty to do if you haven't been to Vegas since the 80s...you will not even recognize it! I've never stayed at CC, so I have no comments on that. Just like to wish you a good trip and a welcome!

justvisiting, you've lived there before, you know what you're getting into. Other people who have actually stayed at CC recently have had decent experiences (and in truth, some have not), even in the dreaded manor rooms. We've said it a thousand times, it's all about expectations.

btw, stud is available, maybe not everywhere but it's around. check out:

Yeah, Circus Circus has a reputation. I stayed their my first trip to Vegas and I survived to tell about it. I don't fully understand why people stay at Imperial Palace, but lots of people here call it home. It's all about expectations and personal preferences. I spend a lot of time in my room so comfort, amenities and a nice view are important. Some people just require a bed and a shower. Go figure.

Have a great trip and be sure to tell us all about it when you get back. We love trip reports! I'd especially like to hear your thoughts about what has changed. I know so much is different in the last few years. I'd imagine it will be hard to recognize from the 80's.

Welcome justvisiting! You are going to return to Vegas and feel like you're in a different place now that everything has changed so much! Please give us a trip report when you get back and let us share in your experience.

As for Circus Circus....some people run their mouths about the place, but they either 1) haven't ever set foot in it or 2) haven't set foot in it for a long time. I've stayed there a number of times in both the Tower rooms and Manor rooms and I've never had a problem. The rooms have always been clean. The beds have always been there so I could sleep on them and they even provide pillows and towels! I think you're going to be just fine staying there. I was in the casino this weekend and it seems just like it has every other time I've been in there.

As for the neighborhood, I would have no problem walking around in most of those areas and since you used to live there, I'm sure you know where you're going so, unlike me, you don't have to worry about getting lost.

I think you are going to have a great trip and that you've made some good choices...just don't ever stay at the Days Inn downtown (I made that mistake once) and life will be good

Thanks all for your kind words, you are making me feel much better about CC. We really aren't looking for more than a clean bed and shower this trip. Don't get me wrong we like to be pampered too but I wanted Mike to get some sense of the LV I remember, not just the new resort LV. We will certainly check out the Strip but more likly spend more time on Fremont St. Mike is also looking forward to checking out Hoover Dam and I've been searching on-line for a good bus tour. I found 1 that I like the description of that includes lunch at Boulder Dam Hotel and a stop at the Ethel m factory. Any experiance with Looktours or any others? I will definatly check the poker link doctor. thanks. and as for Rustytrombone--- he is after all a Mets fan.
