$20 trick has worked for me 100% of the time at the MGM. They put me into a Celebrity Spa Suite, 4 different times. My room there have always been comped. I put the $ in-between my CC and my ID.

I have yet to try/bother with this tipping thing. I have very few needs and my requests are simple enough (I'd like a room with a safe, please.) and I don't think they require an extra nudge to the front desk person other than a "please" and a "thank you". I don't feel I'm entitled to the moon and the stars and get a free suite when I only paid for a standard. I'm a simple girl who's easy to please. I really don't care what the window view looks like. I'm not standing in my room staring outside during my vacation. I'm out having fun and living it up. My room is just a bed, toilet, shower, and place to hold my luggage.

I have only had a chance to use it in Vegas once (and will on Sunday).

Hotel: Paris
Date: April 94
Airport check-in
I think Priscilla was her name
Yes it worked
offered $20, and she didn't pocket it until she was sure she could do something

updgrade: regular room to Strip view room overlooking pool and Bellagio fountains and able to get into room at 10:30 AM. Other people on our shuttle were discussing what to do until they could get into their rooms in the afternoon.

Since then I have tried to upgrade at EVERY hotel I have stayed at no matter what city. Most of the time with $20. (sometimes I just ask if I am looking for a specific location/side of the property) and it has always worked.

General advice:
From what I have read here and several other boards, inventory is a big key to the $20 trick. They can't give you what they don't have. If you don't get an upgrade, most of the time it will be due to this.

Make your request as specific as possible, know the room type names of the hotel you are going to (P room at Paris, GO room at Flamingo etc.) and the location you would like (overlooking to Pool, Strip etc.) I have seen many trip reports with pictures and links to on-line photo albums referencing exact room numbers. Can't hurt to say, "I was wondering if there were any complimentary upgrades? I would really like room #3460 or something just like it if possible."

April 94? Paris didn't open until Sept. 1st 1999. I recall getting married at the Bellagio on Aug 15th 1999. We had a room with a view of the fountain and the soon to be opened Paris Hotel & Casino. A month later I returned to LV on a business trip and made a point to stop and check it out since it was the 'new' place on the strip. I wasn't very impressed at first but on my more recent trips I've grown fond of the place.

So other than a "P" room or asking for a room with a double door, are there any other specific room/suite tyes to ask for? I know on my last stay at the hotel they were doing a bunch of remodeling of the rooms. Is that all done or would there be a specific batch of floors to request to insure an upgraded room?

Cool Flamingo Upgrade??

Arriving at Flamingo Sun., July 8 around 10-1030pm- Have included in my reservation request a pool view, but am now wondering what more specifically I should request? Would like a GO Luxury, obviously, am staying 4 nights w/ 2 comped, 2 @$50. Any GO rooms overlooking pool area? Anybody know a specific room number to request? Really not too particular on view, just like high floor w/o view of parking garage! First stay at Flamingo, but have been to LV many times- just thought pool view would be nice change as always have strip view... I understand the Flamingo pool has some pretty nice pool views these days...

Here's a question on the $20.00 trick. I have 3 Nights comped on my trip comming up in July, was wondering if the $20.00 works with "Comped" rooms. I am staying at the RIO and already have booked a Stip view "Premium Suite". Is there something special that I could get upgraded to even though the rooms are already free?

Think I read something that said the optimal check-in employee for the $20 trick would be a male between 25-34. More crooked/desperate than the others behind the desk? Perhaps I should have my wife check-in if we get a male employee and me check-in if it's a gal.....?

Don't visit this site; or if you do, make sure your spyware protection is current. They used to spam your computer. It was bad!

Your post got me to thinking, so I made a thread that directly answers your question, maybe it will flop or flourish and everyone will post on it
