Walking Distances on Strip

Folks will often ask about the distances between various resorts and other points of interest on the Las Vegas Strip. Some people like to take long walks for exercise, especially in the morning or evening hours. Others simply want to know what type of distances they are dealing with if they choose not to spend money on transportation.

To assist in determining how far you want to walk, or even drive, I traveled the Strip and compiled fairly precise measurements of these distances. At the moment, most would consider the southern-most point of the Strip to be the Mandalay Bay resort, just north of the famed Welcome To Las Vegas sign. So I started the calculations from Mandalay Bay, calling that point zero, and ended them at the Stratosphere.

If you walked from one end of the Stip to the other, setting a fairly brisk pace of three miles per hour, with no stopping along the way, it would take you about an hour and 20 minutes one way.

You may want to bookmark or print out this information for your future reference. Calculating the distances between any two points on the list involves nothing more than basic math, going forward or backward.

I leave on Thursday and I was wondering the same thing.
 
I don't think these calculations account for all the necessary detours along the way. We just got back Oct 9 - 16 and I can tell you from fresh experience it's more than an hour twenty end-end.
 
Is that going in to the casinos, though? If you just stay on the sidewalk and don't go in the casinos, the mileage is correct. Choosing the correct side of the street to avoid construction is crucial as well ;) If you are entering casinos, you'll have to add a couple miles--some of them are set pretty far back!

I've been involved in food service administration for 22 years at college outdoor ed campus/conference retreat center. I plan to stick with that 8 more years and then maybe do more writing.
For now, I write a weekly sports column and cover some high school sporting events in northwestern Illinois. It's a nice break from the food business.
The weird thing about the Vegas story was the exact same time I hiking the Strip for the article was when that kid jumped off the Stratosphere. Didn't expect that, but then again in Vegas you never know what to expect.
 
Here's my general rule on the strip. Everything is farther away than it looks.
 
My wife and I take a long walk on the Strip on almost every visit we make. We park in the self-parking garage at Mandalay Bay, and so far, the farthest we have walked is to the Riviera. Our first stop is the Excalibur, where we eat our diet Krispy Kreme donuts (I have 2, she has one). The great thing about this hike is that if you must use facilities, the casino facilies definitely beat the ones on mountain trails ;) .

We walk up the steps instead of taking the escalators, which we feel helps digest the Krispy Kremes quicker (yeah...right!). We also have a mandatory stop along the way for a quick nickel video poker session and a cold drink of orange juice. Our last stop was at the Riviera, where we got two free mugs, two free hot dogs, two free drinks, and we both even won a few dollars playing V.P. Only in Vegas!!!

We will be moving to Henderson permanently at the end of June, and look forward to our Strip walks, but we will probably wait until Fall before they become very long walks. :cool:
 
Everywhere in Vegas is in walking distance...
If you have enough time...
 
I once walked from the MGM Grand to downtown ( Iwas staying at the LV CLub). I know what yer thinking?? I was a little, how should I say it, drunk and plus I was giving one of my buddies some time with an aquantiance that he had met. Little did I know, he wasn't able to close the deal so I walked for nothing. I ran a little at times in the area between the Saraha and downtown. (little scary at times) I look back on it now and laugh.

Always wanted to know how far it was from one end to the other. Thats lots of walking. One reason to always wear comfortable shoes.
 
Remember.... It's not the distance you walk. It's "do you have enough to drink to get you there"?

If you are walking the strip in the summer, make sure you are carrying a drink at least half your height. In the cooler winter months you can get by with a football shaped beer or a colorful Paris balloon drink.

wow professional walker.i take my car, cab, monoslow but never have even walk the strip from one end to the other in 20 years. must have taken 2 hrs to walk that distance.the longest i walked is from paris to tr and back. :D
 
Interesting measurements, but did you take into account dodging the porn-slappers by Paris/Bally's? ;)
