I need some help. We have had the Excalibur reserved for a little while now. But I seen a link on here that Luxor is $59 per night and $99 on Fri and Sat.We have the Excalibur for $49 per night and $99 on Fri and Sat. The Luxor will only be $20 extra total for three nights versus the Excalibur. We are taking three kids and we need help on which to choose. The kids like both but are still leaning towards the Excalibur. Is the Luxors rooms alot nicer than Excalibur or are they about the same? Thanks for the help.

Maybe I am not the one to answer this, seeing as I do not like the Excalibur all that well.

But here goes.... If it were me, I would choose the Luxor over the Excalibur every time! I know you are bringing your kids, but the Luxor is just as "kid-friendly" as the Excalibur. The rooms are MUCH nicer at the Luxor, especially if you get a room in the newer tower and not in the pyrimid. The Excalibur has only stand up showers, no tubs, and the rooms are standard looking hotel/motel rooms.

Bonnie, my husband and I just returned a week ago from the Luxor; I'd go with a tower room at the Luxor cause maybe it is air conditioned better than our pyramid room. Everytime we trekked through the Excalibur, I noticed long check in lines (even late at night) and the casino was extremely smokey and crowded. The Luxor seemed to be calmer, and being right next door, access to either is a snap. We used valet parking every day, super at Luxor, and the maid service and bell service were perfect.

I just booked a stay at the Luxor chosing it over Excalibur. I have stayed at the Luxor before as a guest of a paying customer. I liked the spa and the pool area, although what they charge you for water is ridiculous.

My question is - is there a particular part of the Luxor that is better to stay in? There always seem to be some part of a hotel that is nice than another. Which part is it for the Luxor?

Their Egyptian Internet special mentioned their Deluxe Room. Does anyone have additional information about this type of room at the Luxor?

Thanks,
Tweetybird

Tweetybird, When do you plan to stay at the Luxor? We will be there July 24-27. I went ahead and changed our ressies to the Luxor but now the Excalibur's rate for that Fri is $79. I think we will still enjoy the Luxor over the Excalibur. Thanks

I've stayed at Excalibur and it wasn't bad, but I would think the Luxor would be nicer. If it were my choice I'd stay at Luxor, that seems like a great price rates are usually higher. Luxor has a great arcade for the kids, everything that Excalibur has is right next door, just hop on the tram or indoor moving walkway.

Good luck and have fun

Cool

Ok, let me start by saying that I'd NEVER stay at Excalibur. Too shabby, too many dang kids, and too many better choices out there.

But here is the deal with the Luxor. If you stay in the rooms in the pyramid, they are a little bigger, due to the fact that the outside wall is slanted. People who have never been there seem to think the rooms would be smaller because of this, but the opposite is true. In the pyramid rooms, there are no tubs in the bathroom, just a large shower. (Going with just the fellas, nobody cares). The corner rooms of the pyramid have jacuzzis in them, but they are out in the room, by the windows, not in the can.

Also, being pyramid rooms, you get to ride the inclinators, which is quite a trip, especially if you are liquored up. Since it is one of the 5 largest hotels in the world, sometimes it's a LOOOOOOOONG walk from the inclinator to your hotel room, but at least the inclinators are very easy to find from the casino level. (Insider tip--Get a room higher up, it's a shorter walk to the inclinator )

If you are in the tower rooms (there are two towers, they are to the north of the pyramid, about halfway to the Excalibur), your rooms are slightly smaller, but all the walls go in the same direction, and you get a tub in your bathroom. It's a lot farther from the casino, however, but the rooms are newer. That being said, we loved the rooms in the pyramid, and I can heartily recommend them. Heck, ya can't stay at the Luxor, and then not even stay in the Pyramid...

There is an indoor walkway connecting the Luxor and Excalibur, and also an outdoor tram that runs from Mandalay Bay, to Luxor, then to Excalibur, but doesn't stop at the Luxor on the way back...Easy to figure out, but sometimes it's just easier to walk then to stand outside on the platform waiting for it, roasting in the sun (no shade).

The Luxor is definately for adults, but Excalibur is more for families with children. Also, Luxor usually has lower table limits than it's sister, the Mandalay Bay; that being said, if Mandalay Bay gets 4 stars, than Luxor should get three-and-a-half.

Also, I've always had GREAT service from the hotel, to the casino, to the restaurants. It's definately one of our gangs favorites, and my absolute favorite hotel in Vegas.

Mikey
