Just got an invite to a mgm 300k tourney with the execs of the mgm and a guarantee of 100k for first in promo chips. It said you can automatically move on to the second round if your casino play warrants it.

Has anyone played in these kinds of tourneys and is it worth going? I am going almost 2 weeks after that for Super Bowl but might go for this.

Pray tell, how would you move onto the second round based on your Casino play if you are playing in the tournament?

Sounds fishy, as in they are trying to reel you in just for your play. But if they are offering a free room...

standard for almost every mlife/mgm "invite only" tournament. if you have $100K actual or theo loss in last calendar year, you advance to "second round" of almost all BJ, Slot, and poker "invite only" tournaments.

A lot of BJ tourneys will reward wild card drawings for those that bust out, based on rated play. I imagine, in this case, you automatically get to continue rather than earning wild cards. Whatever the case, I find there is plenty of time to gamble outside of a BJ tourney.

Edit: Doh! Just realized this is under "Poker", so yeah, gambling time would be very limited during tourney time, unless you bust out. So, looks like, you will have to bust out in round one, gamble enough afterwards, and then hop back in round 2. I wonder how many chips they give you by earning your way back into round two. If you are fairly short-stacked towards the end of round 1, then I guess you could donk off your chips, go gamble, and comw back for round 2 with more chips.

just checked another invite (I also have the MGM 300K tourney invite):

"Qualifications into the Semifinal Rounds may be achieved in one of the following three manners: 1) Advance through tournament play;2) Auto Qualification based on gaming history at any MGM Resort International designation (single trip loss of $150,000 or greater in last 12 months or $300,000 rolling 12-month loss); 3) At Management discretion."

Jd, that is not the invite i got. I figured to automatically go to round 2 based on your casino play, you would have to be like natedog to get there automatically on yojr play. Trust me, i am no natedog, i usually play between 300-500 a hand unless winning but do play 5/10 no limit. Also, say you do bypass and get into round 2 based on casino play, donyou need to play in round 1?

no, you skip right to round two.

I also have the $300K invite, and I see the wording is much more generic... but same concept.

I played in one of these invite poker events in Oct 2012, and it was $100K loss to qualify for "direct to 2nd round" per my host. (No, I did not qualify!!)

Do you guys know if you get a W2G when you win promo chips? I didn't get the invite, but I'm curious if promo chips are taxed.

I got this invite. Can't wait to spend the 100K in promotional chips on hookers and booze when I win. Wonder how many people show up. I hope they spiffy up there poker 'space' for this.

It's been a year, how long before the rooms are no longer 'newly renovated'.
