Big LOSSES???

Reading this makes me want to -

1. Make enough money to afford play at that level
2. See how it feels to gamble so much money

Part of me says I'll never risk that much, but you never know till you are put in that position do you? Another part of me says 2 is how you achieve 1 :)

Let me chime in and say that a "BIG" loss is relative. I can remember (25 years ago) when if I lost $50 on VP. I was down and out. My whole trip was a bust losing that king of money. Just last week (in Vegas) I played $10 VP. That $50 per pop (hand). Lost $800 in 5 minutes and said what the hell!. What is a fact losing $50 for a low roller is just as bad as a high roller losing $5000+. ITS ALL RELATIVE AND THE STING IS THE SAME!!!!

I remember heading over to Wynn from Bellagio one morning to talk to my host about setting up a comp dinner at SW for 4.

I got there about 15 minutes before her start time and the comp for 4 was a non-issue after I blew $9,000 into a roulette table during that 15 minutes.

Another big one I remember at Wynn was blowing $5,000 into $2 100-play ($500 a pop) in about 5 minutes before going to a meet at Flamingo's Garden Bar where I met Jdog.

There was another trip where I couldn't hit a damn thing, lost $8,000 3 days in a row.

Seem to remember another $25,000 loss trip and a $35,000 single day loss on a trip where I had won big the 1st day and then recovered the 3rd day.

All of those big losses were sandwiched around good wins and at that time I was playing on a big overall bankroll from a huge winning trip. Now I play for comparative pennies and a $5,000 loss seems like the end of the world.

This reminds me of the time you posted a picture of a $20,000 Royal on a $5 machine and I promptly went to the HL room at Palazzo and dropped $500 in about 5 mins at which point the inspiration wore off.

We've had 2 but it takes us 5-6 days to do it. $5K & $6k...basically our budget for the 5 or 6 day trip. It's sure not as fun as a winning trip but it's what we budget to be an affordable loss....if there really is such a thing:poke:

Couldn't agree more. Once you start to play at a higher level, going back is boring. I remember when I first started playing baccarat, I played $25 per hand. Now I can't play under $100-200 per hand because it's so boring. I heard once you start playing over 1k per hand, it is hard to going to play hundreds.

You know, a couple months ago I decided to scale back my level of play and I had this concern, but it never materialized. I was averaging about $2k a hand, but I got to that level by winning and building a bankroll. Now that I've reduced my average bet significantly, I sort of view it as a challenge to build a new bankroll that gets me back to my old wagering level. Maybe that "challenge" component made it easier for me to scale back, but I still enjoy it

I once went to Vegas for 5 nights with a $7k bankroll - won $13k on the first night - and then put it all back + the $7k by the 3rd night.

I was not amused!

Probably not my biggest, but the one that sticks out the most. I made a stop at the Horseshoe Cleveland before going to a Browns game last season. They charge for parking at the Casino lot, but will comp it for 30 minutes of play. So I get up to the craps table and blow through $300 in about 15 minutes, that was fun. I go find my friends who are going to the game too and no one is doing well so we head down to the game early. I can't remember what game it was last year, but it was late in the season and the Browns so I'm sure they lost and we headed back to the casino. Another 15 minutes or so and I'm down another $300. Chasing losses and being pissed about a Browns loss is not a way to make smart plays at the tables so as the driver I say we are leaving. I get no real objections and head to the machine to get my parking validation. The machine said I hadn't played enough to get free parking. Maybe they hadn't signed me out of the system and it hadn't been updated, but that was just another kick in the nuts. I went back to the table to see what was up and the pit said looked at things and got me comped parking.

Again not my biggest loss for a day or anything, but the way things happened it just stood out.

When I first started playing VP, played at 25c and $1,000 was a typical budget for a 2 or 3 day trip. One time I was playing 10/6 DDB and lost $750 in 2 hours, no quads, about a 70% return. I was shaking after that one! To this day I still HATE DDB. No amount of quads makes up for the losing sessions.

My first step up to $1 VP was at the Venetian. Playing $1 JOB over 4 hours, lost $2,400, 1 quad, 85% return. Shell shocked!

Not huge numbers but they left an impression....

HL room at Monte Carlo....playing Blackjack. Walked in started to talk to the dealer as she knows me...host came over and was BS with me...didn't play for like the first 30 mins in the room. Finally started to play $100 hand BJ and after about 45 mins of racking in about $5K, I asked for the table min. to be raised to $500 a hand as I started to see some people walk in. I prefer to play heads up when play in HL. Up and down over the next 30 mins....some guy walks in and wants to play at my table I ask to raise to $1K a hand. I get the min in raised and go on a loosing streak...drop $35K before I call it quits. Take a break go to dinner come back and play some craps. Buy in for $30K and 4 hours later walk with $50K, so overall that day was a $15K lose.

I wouldn't have taken you for a millionaire! DAYUM!

This is nothing to a lot of you but when I first started playing craps I would buy in for $100.00. I would play only the pass line and maybe a come bet or two.

I once lost my $100.00 buy-in in less than 10 minutes. I was stunned and walked away like a zombie...

I'm still a low roller but now I cannot see buying in for less than $300.00, typically $500.00. I still lose these amounts fairly quick but what worries me is this doesn't bother me as much as before. I'm quickly turning into a degenerate....

My last trip I lost half of my 5K bankroll. That hurt. :grrr:

:beer::drunk::thumbsup:

Eloctroguy563---being redundant ---as I said $50 loss for a low roller and $5000 loss for you, its all the same.----as you say "it hurts". I know---been there done that!

I won $750 playing live poker (which is still my biggest win). I returned to the scene of the crime the next day and promptly lost $700. I decided I hadn't had enough and went home to play online and quickly dropped another $300+. I spent the night a little shell shocked as that was way more then I had ever lost in a day.

I was pretty mad at myself because if I hadn't won the $750 the day before, I would have never lost the $700 in one session normally.

One other loss that really stings was a $500 BJ loss in a few hours at planet Hollywood. We had a few more hours in Vegas and I decided to make the most of it and not stop when my luck was obviously terrible. Losing 5 buy ins stung and was way out of my normal "session".

I had a mid-life moment when I was 36 (3 years ago), stayed at the Wynn for over 3 months....lost mid 7 figures (as in around 5m). Will never do that again...

I think they are hoping I go crazy again at some point...

Everything's relative.

My biggest loss was about $6000 on the dice tables a couple years ago.

I was in full chase mode after losing early and it bit me right in the ass. It was one of those trips where from the moment I stepped up to the tables every roll was sorry. Choppy to downright awful back to choppy and then I finally cut my loss at $6k.

Haven't had a session like that since, thankfully!

I was killing time in the plaza one time and decided to sit down at the blackjack table. bought in with enough for 12 bets and lost them in 12 hands. the amounts aren't important but to lose 12 on the bounce was pretty unsettling. didn't even have time to order a drink, never mind get one.

I was heads up so I reckon it took about 3 minutes max...

variance huh?
