Did any of you ever try the white castle sliders at the mermaids casino downtown? Are they the frozen type?

Maybe it is just me, and I am not trying to threadcrap...but I am hesitant to let any of the food cooked in that place touch my mouth..I love everything about the dingy side of Vegas, but that food stand just makes me nervous! haha.

But no I am not aware of if they are fresh and frozen.

Yes, they are the frozen kind, but they oven them or do something other than microwave them. My university did the same thing and sold them by the dozen. I actually prefer them oven-cooked since it makes them less mushy/soggy than the ones from the actual White Castle stores. They seem more substantial and there's more contrast of texture.

What I don't understand is why Mermaids has not thought to offer deep fried White Castle burgers. They already do Twinkies and Oreos, might as well batter and fry those burgers as well!

Thanks, now I know what not to eat over there. Was just curious, but there is so much good food to eat in downtown why go there.

Deep fried sliders! If Mermaids won't do it, maybe Heart Attack Grill will. :woo

Considering one of the western boundaries of White Castle (location didn't exist when I was actually there) is where I went to college, Columbia, MO, they are obviously frozen! I've never tried them in the oven, but frozen white castles are definitely not as good in the microwave.

I'm from NJ, where White Castles are a plenty. Despite what you see in Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, you don't need to drive all over the state to find one.

But fair warning. The only time I ate there while sober I got food poisoning. :vomit:

So make sure you have a few beers and get a designated driver.

Any restaurant or bar in Vegas must post their health inspection grade in a visible location. If it is not A, avoid it.

Isn't it a rule that you are only allowed to eat at White Castle while drunk?:drunk:

After all, who would want that food sober?

They have a white castle? I totally forgot to hit mermaid's last time. I was already kicking myself. This makes it worse. I have to bring my to do list next time.

    Whitecastle at Mermaid's

Does Mermaid's serve Whitecastle burgers? If so, how much?

Not positive, but I remember them being around $1 each if you bought 6 or 12 at a time.

If you want REAL White Castle, the Foodie Fest at The Silverton this weekend has the White Castle truck in attendance. Sunday is the last day and it's $10 admission (which was good for all three days), but you could go and try some local- and nationally-known food trucks at the same time. http://lasvegasfoodiefest.com/

I would stay away from the sliders at Mermaids. My wife had a couple of sliders last year and within a couple of hours she was puking her guts out in the Golden Nugget washrooms and no it was not because she was drunk. That was the longest cab ride back to the strip in my life!!

I am sure awhile back the health dept listed them as one of the cleanest food places.

If you go in when they open the food area is spotless and they all put on gloves when handling any food.

you can get very sick from touching the ketchup dispenser handle after a few people exit the washroom to the food area without washing their hands.. back on track though the sliders are pretty good but dogs and fries are my fave

I think that they were 3 for $3.95 when I was there in September, they took them straight from a white castle box in the freezer and cooked them right away.....that doesn't leave any time for food poisoning to occur, I didn't try them but I live in Minneapolis and we have white Castles all over town.

Someone should take a picture of their menu board and post it.

I think the price is correct - I had the 3 sliders in August this year - they were not too bad at all - even had them while not intoxicated.

I went to the White Castle in Eatontown, NJ one summer after spending the day on the beach drinking gin and juice.....As soon as I hit the AC in the White Castle I almost passed out.....My last words to friends was "Please don't let me die in White Castle....."

Frozen White Castles are not White Castles.......just not the same.....

I went. They were off, sort of precooked. Skip and get the twinkies/oreos. The only complaint there is too much powdered sugar.

I avoid downtown due to the bad 80s hair rock they constantly play.
