It turns out I have about $200 in Express Comps for my next trip in June. What does everyone normally use theirs on? Can you use them for shopping, room service too?

You can use them to pay at most restaurants, against your hotel bill, or to buy show tickets.

Probably the easiest way is to go to the front desk the night before you check out (assuming you don't want to check out at the desk in the morning) and have them apply Express Comps against your bill. That way, you should be able to see the credit when you review your charges in the morning.

There was some discussion a while back about possibly being able to avoid the sales tax on meals if you use Express Comps to pay for meals at the point of purchase vs charging to your room, but I don't remember the outcome.

drinks, meals, spa, show tickets (at MGM properties of course).

No retail. Does not cover tips.

    $200 will go real fast.

Spend them like cash at MGM property restaurants. Just give your card to your waiter and he'll take the stuff right off of your bill. Don't forget to tip, as that can't go on ECs.

Alternatively, use them up front to pay for your buffets. They'll do it right there at the register.

Usually I can get the mlife desk to cover my stay and meals without touching the express comps. Last time I did this they asked if I wanted to keep my express comps or apply them to the bill... I told them that I'd rather keep them, so they just took care of the bill and left me the ECs.

Take them over to the gift shop and grab some extra stuff or whatever.

I normally just use them to pay for the room (in full or in part)...if not fully comp'd.

If comp'd then I just save them for next time...

If you were feeling generous you could go to a restaurant and look for a nice family on vacation and tell the manager to charge their meal to your room and then use ECs to pay for it...

If you were NOT staying at an MGM hotel, what would you do with $200-250 in EC's, on a solo trip?

Use them to pay for meals. You can use it basically like a debit card right in any MGM hotel restaurant. Hit Craft one night and you're halfway done with your ECs.

No retail generally, but what about logo'ed items in Vegas? I know at the Beau Rivage you can use up to $400 per day on anything with their logo on it. I never tried it in Vegas, but on my last visit to Biloxi I maxed out my EC's so I went on a spending spree buying golf balls, umbrellas etc as everything else was comped already.

halfway? at Craft? maybe, but I could spend a dime there by myself easily ... and have, so $250 would be no problem.

that's only at the Beau, not in Vegas. but the Beau is generally the test ground for policy changes, so if all goes well, it's possible that they will implement the same policy in Vegas.

Keep in mind your ECs won't expire as long as you put any play on your card every 12 months. So don't feel compelled to use them just for the sake of getting rid of them.

If you can get whatever charges you accrue comped without touching your ECs you can just continue to bank them until you really need to use them.

You could absolutely crush those ECs as a solo if you were on the high end of the menu or ordering wine, for sure. But my last bill there was $267 for two, and we didn't purposely go cheap, so you could definitely do it.

You could get a nice NY Strip, a couple of sides and a drink and walk out for between $100 and $125.

One glass of nice 30 year scotch will crush those ECs...

I learned the hard way you can't use them in the gift shop. I assumed that I could so I picked out some gifts for my daughter and granddaughters and had them shipped to them and charged to the room. Later discovered that all of those charges were on my credit card because I couldn't use the ECs.

Well with only $200 i wouldnt use em on your room. Just use for food. Also, something i never even tried my first THIRTY times in vegas was to swipe my mlife card at casino bars for beers at times i wasnt gambling and just passing thru and wanted a couple cold ones. Thats a nice little feature. But as stated by another, $200 will go quick if you go expensive. My advice is to use EC's on things like food courts, beers, etc.

I find it odd you can't use them at the gift shop. Can you charge gift shop purchases to the room and pay with them at checkout? TR credits can be used at their gift shops.
