Although my trip was about a month ago I made this observation as I strolled into The Quad with reasonable hopes of something. What that somethings was...unknown at that point.

Now, as I understand it, the casino was not done and obviously looking at the size of it I should have known outright more was to come. However, what I saw I did not like.

Of course it was cleaned up. Of course the smell was gone. But beyond that I saw nothing that would make me go in there again.

    - Without pics I can describe it as a large beige enclosure with a few streaks of red neon here and there on the walls.
    - Carpet was nondescript. The usual games were in play.
    - It felt a little cramped but I assume that was to maximize gaming space.
until the entire casino was complete.
    - One long curving VP bar with shitty pay tables (of course).

    - On the plus side it was easy to navigate and find your way in and out.
    - I do like what they have done to the entrance. It's like a real Vegas casino now.
    - There is an identified Diamond Check In.

I cannot comment on the rooms as I did not stay.

I left with the feeling that this place is just a bland beige warehouse that makes the vanilla vibe of the Monte Carlo look like the Hard Rock. All that money spent and that is what they came up with so far?

I can say this with 100% honesty, I liked the look and vibe of the IP way better and was a little sad that yet another dated but somewhat iconic property was sterilized. I was hopeful to get in one last bar top vp session on that trip at the old girl but it was not meant to be.

So in summary...I thought The Quad blew.

It seemed fairly bland from the pics on the vmb somewhere. Reddish and grayish. A bit of a blander copy of flamingo/ph. I liked IP just fine. The vibe was just right. I have not yet seen it but it seemed sterilized indeed.

Gaggles, I have been reading Sam's thread (and photos) of his stay at IP/Quad and am wondering what CET is doing. They are dumping tons of money into the surrounding infrastructure but treating the hotel like they planned to flip it in the near future.

The new part of the casino seemed as bright as a hospital cafeteria, but a bit stylish and modern in a Red Rock sort of way. I like the new drink-ordering process and got my cocktail extremely fast. They use an "ambassador" to take the order electronically and another person delivers it. Right now, though, with the original casino walled off, there's barely enough room for people to get past the registration desk in a narrow corridor between the main front entrance and the hotel/elevator areas. I got behind a family with a stroller and it was an absolute nightmare with all the people coming right at us from the other direction. Really surprised it isn't considered a safety hazard.

Sam's right about the drink service there. They walk around with iPad looking devices and take your order....fast!!! I had 4 Heineken's in less than an hour at the roulette table and it sure was fun.

Can't wait to see what else they're doing to the place. It's gonna be a big improvement over the old IP for sure.

I was there this past weekend. It does have a definite "work in progress" feel but drink ordering is great and I hope that catches on quickly.
And I was very happy to see the dealertainers were still there :peace:

I gambled, almost exclusively there, last week. I found the new casino to be fantastic. You might call it generic, but I thought it was quite lively and a HUGE improvement from the prior casino. It was bright and cheery and there was always a crowd. The Catalyst bar was ALWAYS busy. I quite enjoyed the new part of the casino, and can't wait for the remainder to open. Once the whole thing is available, the place is going to be GREAT! To each his own of course.

I would have to agree with Gaggles original thought on this one. My wife and I stopped by the Quad when we were in town for the sweet 16. While it is much cleaner and brighter than in the past we both agreed that the overall decor was quite bland. The gray and red motif seemed very amateur compared to most of the other resorts on the strip. Hopefully this is just a function of the entire casino not being open but we were not impressed. There didn’t seem to be any sort of energy in the place anymore. Maybe our expectations are just too high.

To me the place felt bright and clean.

The layout is a great shortcut from Harrah's over to the Flamingo. This will be appreciated in very hot or very cold weather.

I can appreciate the feelings about losing the style and unique character of the old IP. They must not have meant enough to me because I quit detouring back there some time ago.

One thing I recall about the old IP was that they had some of the best looking CWs. I didn't notice the new staff because I didn't have a drink except at the bar. The bartender was a bit of a performer so he may have been working there while the Carnaval Bar was being upgraded.

Glad to see that they're making some effort to refresh the Quad, though I can't imagine why they didn't hit the rooms side. If I were in CET's shoes (oy vey) I would have used the capital from renovating Bill's and renovated the rooms at the Quad to basically make it a whole new hotel. Then left Bill's alone or folded it into the Flamingo brand. But that's why I'm not CEO, I guess.

What's everyone's experience with the "Dealertainers"?

I asked them about this as well. They share with the order takers, so it all works out. Service was great, and I only experienced one minor snafu. Carry around the Ipad order screens is a great idea.

Bette Midler Dealertainer told me they're redoing the rooms next.

Even though I spent a lot of time in The Quad on the trip from which I'm returning now (typing this from airport), and while I find it nicer, I think it's completely devoid of any personality whatsoever. Bland carpet (and pretty stained now, too), too much empty wall space, and really nothing memorable about it save for the fact it's different from what it was in December. Hopefully that'll change as they continue the work. Most of the Dealertainers I asked seem to like it; only one, Rod Stewart, doesn't seem to care for it.

The IP casino was utterly useless once Caesars took over, and I expect nothing different with the name change. Okay, the IP sports book remained somewhat entertaining for awhile, and they continued having a good futures line for a long time, if that's your thing. But when I was in the sports book a year ago it was clearly time for last rites, and now it's apparently going RIP.

The goal of the Quad is clear: aim low. The IP was already the go-to Strip joint for low-brow cheapos. I am not criticizing, as I was more than willing to stay there for the outstanding location and the bottom basement price. Mostly, however, this clientele is not looking for a gambler's casino. I stayed there but didn't spend anything in the casino, except for the odd bet in the sports book. I don't know what your average IP/Quad guest is looking for in a casino, but I'm guessing it's not what I want. So Caesars is just going to spruce it up to the bare minimum, knowing their clientele, and leave it at that. That means the casino will continue to suck.

Once the dust settles on the Linq project I will likely stay at IP again, I mean the Quad, if the price continues to be right. The location is just too good and I really don't need much beyond a functional hotel room. But I am sure I will not be spending any time there except in my room drinking my own beer with my friends and sleeping.

I can only imagine it taking up to a year to fully renovate the rooms.

I popped in very briefly last weekend. Looked very sterile. I assume the are not finished with it yet.

I did not play long enough to even consider a drink, but I'm glad they are using the Rio System with the pads.

Looks like all of the flea market stuff is gone from Carnaval Court.

Really hard to judge an unfinished product. You never know if what you are seeing is just a temporary fix.

When its officially done, I won't be making a special trip just to see it but will definitely check it out if in the area.

Agreed about IP vs Bill's. They should have just left Bill's as it was, and put that money into IP. I can't fathom THAT much interest in Barbary Coast v3.0, at $250 a night, when they are done. But hey, what do I know.
