Default Who Plays Live Keno? Tips?

I see these spots in casinos but have never played. I would guess the pay offs are terrible??

What are some good tips for the game if we should decide to kill some time?
What does it cost? Best place to play?
    We will be Downtown.

    Thanks,
    Sue

Playing keno is about as exciting as watching grass grow, except if you win. I like to play when I need to take a break and relax. Drink service is also available. Palace Station gives you free coffee and donuts early in the morning.

You can play for as little as a dollar a ticket and pick 1 to 10 numbers. There are 80 numbers on a ticket. Just grab a seat, fill out your ticket with the nice crayon they supply, and play 1 game or as many games as you want. If you need help on the payouts there will be pamphlets giving you all the info you need. The cashiers will also help you.

If you want to get fancy, you can play a way ticket for 50 cents. This lets you play games within the game. For example, my birthday is 1/10/1951. I will play numbers 1, 10,19,and 51 for 50 cents. On the same ticket I will play 1,10,51 for 50 cents. Then I will also play the number 19 by itself for 50 cents. The total price to play is $1.50. I will play 4 games for a total of 6 bucks. The 4 games can take about 20 minutes to play depending how busy they are. It's a cheap way to relax and get a drink. If a couple of my numbers come in I can break even. If all 4 numbers come in I can win around $40.

Every casino has different payouts. Don't sweat it just sit down and relax and have fun. I like to play at The Orleans, Hilton, Palace Station, and Red Rock Station.
It's one of the worse games to play as far as the casino edge goes, but a dollar can win you thousands.

I guess my tip for playing first time would be to bet a dollar and pick 3 or 4 numbers. If your 3 numbers come in you will win about $45. If 2 out of the 3 come in you will win your dollar back. Read the brochure on the payouts and different ways to bet.

When you get to understand how it works, some of the food cafe's have keno runners. These are pretty young ladies that will turn in your bets for you while you are eating. Your table will have the nice crayons and betting slips to fill out.

While I was in LV with the family, my son was entertained with the keno board while we waited for our food. He'd pick a few numbers (mostly ending in 7s) and see if they came up. For a while there, he had a string of winners (no actual wager, mind you), but, proving jimbucc's point, as soon as that was over he was less interested.

Some bets are better (or less worse) than others - some rooms have their "specials" that give you a bit of a break.

Note that El Cortez offers a slightly better deal...

Keno is a (insert great money-sucking sound effect now) mindless diversion best reserved for a few games played during breakfast.

The odds run from long to abyssmal.

There are no tips; talismans don't work.

It's gambling in its worst form.

But we do like a few games played during breakfast.

The best way to play keno is to buy one ticket in a keno lounge and sit back and tip the cocktail waitress well... that $1 ticket keeps the drinks coming for a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time Click or hover your mouse to enlarge image

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Well, there is a slight difference in the house advantage, but whats the use in quibbling about just how bad it is. I'm sure you've heard the old jokes about if there is ever an earthquake in Vegas, go immediately to the Keno lounge because nothing ever hits there!

You want a "fling" for your dollar? Go spend it on a more reasonable "fling". If the drink and the seat are important.. go play video poker and get a free drink.

I cant see anyone throwing their money away on Keno... even if it is "just one dollar". If its just one dollar.... get your moneys worth!
