    Default Luxor vs Planet Hollywood

I'm thinking about going to Vegas in late August (22-26), and staying at a mid-range prooperty. I got a deal at Luxor for four nights around $610 + tax, while the quote for Planet Hollywood was around $580 + tax. The thing is, Luxor had a promo including Spa access the entire time, which I value as I'm a regular exerciser and am trying to lose weight. Which is the better deal? Spa (and Gym) access at PH is $25/day, so one day of Spa usage would essentially negate its price avantage.
The location difference is minimal to me. Thanks!

I haven't stayed at either but I think I'd be more likely to stay at Planet Hollywood, mostly because I am a location freak. Although since the spa access is important to you and location doesn't matter, I'd say Luxor is a fine choice.

If the location, quality & size of the room, gambling options & restaurant choices aren't hight on the list - go with Luxor for the spa perks. I would choose PH for all of the above reasons because & do alot of speed walking to get my exercise then jump in the spa tub to chill out & relax. Either way - have a great trip!!

Its been years since I stayed at the LUXOR and my stay was good.
The TRs speak of worn rooms, but hey, many properties suffer from
that. If its your choice, stay in the pyramid. You haven't staye at
LUXOR unless you've stayed in the pyramid.
Reports on PlanetHollywoods rooms have been great...if I were to choose,
I'd choose PlanetHo. I prefer their casino over LUXOR too.

I have stayed at both properties and I would recommend PH over Luxor, hands down, even if it means paying a little more to use the exercise room. You could always try asking for some comped passes during check-in. The $20 trick might help.

I stayed in Luxor this past Wednesday but not yet at Alladin/PH. I did try the Spa, but if the price is included and that is what you want to do then I would say go Luxor. They do have Mandalay next door and MGM and New York-New York is not too far away.

I personally would choose the new PH, because of location and recently renovated areas.

Just a little off topic. Luxor is in a transition period after being acquired by MGM-Mirage as part of the Mandalay Bay Group acquisition/merger, so looks like they are trying to slowly remove the egyptian theme of the casino and transition into a more luxury hotel like their other sister MGM-Mirage properties. So this may be the last few years of the theme casino as we know it.They are reopening their nightclub soon, now called LAX, the same club in LA if your into that, don't know when. New restaurant called Aspen 702. The Tower rooms were recently refurnish. We'll see what they have plan once CityCenter is done.

I have stayed in both places multiple times (though the new PH--not until June 16--haven't seen the new casino there) and I've used the spas & exercise rooms in both places. Typically, I really prefer Planet Hollywood over Luxor, but if having a gym is that important to your vacation, Luxor makes better financial sense. When I'm on vacation, I do like to exercise, but I don't like to pay that fee the Vegas hotels charge. So I only use the spa & gym when I'm getting a massage or there are discount passes available. The rest of the time, I'm usually walking ~7-10 miles a day (I've worn a pedometer in VegasClick or hover your mouse to enlarge image) and figure for a few days, I can skip the treadmill. On some trips (primarily business trips) I've also brought resistance bands in my suitcase so I can do some exercise in the room.

In the end, you have to decide how much the gym access means to you for 4 days. You say the location of Luxor doesn't bother you, whereas I really dislike it. The pool at Luxor is fine though somewhat boring. Aladdin's pools were boring as well (I've read a couple reviews they're doing construction on the Planet Hollywood pools now--no one here has posted any recent reviews of that though) I really prefer the rooms at PH--better beds, easier to get around, etc. But as I've mentioned, I'm heavily biased! Luxor did have good drink service the past 2 times I was gambling there, and that's important tooClick or hover your mouse to enlarge image

Thanks for the advice. I decided not to go with Luxor, as the reviews have not been coming in that strong. My trip is partially Business, but there is a Leisure component to it as well so it would be nice to stay at a more enjoyeable place. PH is still on the radar, but I did notice some specials at The Venetian. Staying at the V would be about $100/night more than my other options, but there is a chance their rates will drop (or do way up!), so I'm considering that as well.
I agree with other posters that charging guests a daily fee to use the Fitness Center is outrageous, but you will generate more by collecting the $25-35/day fee from a small percentage of your guests than by charging nothing to a large percentage of your guests who might otherwise use the facility. It certainly keeps the crowds down, for those who do purchase the access. Last year, I was able to use THEGym at THEHotel at no charge, but I think it was more a glitch than the facility actually being available for 'free.'

Oddly enough, Wynn LV's Marketing Dept send me a promotion for Weekdays at $139/ and weekends $219/. The total cost of my stay would be $716 plus tax, so I went with that, as Venetian would have been almost $300 more than that after taxes (assuming the rates did not drop). It was a bit of a surprise, as I gambled less than $100 last time I was there.

We switched our plans from THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay to the Luxor. From 16-19 Aug, the rate for the Luxor is $405 and $810 for THE Hotel. Since this is a guys only trip we will only use the hotel rooms as a place to crash and practice the 6 S's.
