Hi! My husband and I have been researching moving to Vegas. We both work online so we won't need to be looking for jobs. We have found a place to rent ,,studio apartment with separate entrance and would like to know if anyone knows about this area. The owner says this about it. location is Lorenzi street just few houses away from corner with Alta drive, zip 89107

    Thanks in advance!

Of course, everyone has their own tastes, but this is not a prime area...at least you should see it before making any commitments.

We live in Henderson (89074) and you are safe in most areas of the city plus you have access to several local casinos if that is your taste...if not for gambling the restaurants and local deals are great. I travel so it is also convenient to the airport for me.

The area you reference is a mix between industrial, commercial fast food and what seems to be a relatively run down neighborhoods. Of course, there could be pockets of new construction there so that is why you should take a look.

The rental market has been robust, but pricing has stayed relatively reasonable. Don't know what you are paying, but guessing you could do better than a studio in a questionable neighborhood. Let me know if I can clarify or provide more detail as we moved to the area about 18 months ago.

    Good luck.

Thank you azbob the studio is 600 a month including all utilities. We are looking for something like that with all included if possible as we are only committing to 6 months to begin with. We want to make sure it is the right move for us. We are fine paying a couple hundred dollars more a month with utilities and wifi included. We just need a studio or room but we do prefer private entrance.

I agree with the above, not the area I would like unless closer to DT is important to you, But for residing for long term I believe you can find
decent rentals in nicer areas and less conjestion.

That should put you near Rainbow. It's an old neighborhood, a bit run down. CSN Campus is nearby on Charleston, grocery stores and other retail is close. Short distance to the 95 too. I wouldn't rent sight unseen. It could be suitable for a short term lease. However, I would continue the search. If you both work from home, it doesn't sound like location is much of a concern so you could look further out like Centennial Hills, for example. My brother rents a 1 bed, 1 bath behind the Palms, which is an older neighborhood too. But great location, those run about $600/mo, utilities are not included. Those run $30-$100/mo for electric (no gas) and $40-$60+/mo for internet depending on speed.

It sounds like you're not planning on traveling out there until you make the move, correct? I would recommend you find a way, if you can, because you get a lot of info seeing a place for yourself before signing a lease. When we moved from CA to WA, I did a ton of research online and on the phone with places, but discovered a completely new, and perfect, location for us that I didn't even know about. We came up for a weekend to look for apartments. First day we drove all over and most of the places I thought were perfect for us, were not. Second day, we took the ferry over to another place and discovered our home on the way there. ;)

You also might check out the address on Google Maps and use their Street View tool or Google Earth to "look around" a bit.

That was the plan. We only wanted to rent a furnished studio apartment to begin with, so that we do not waste money furnishing a place and such if we do not feel it would be a good fit for us to live there. That seems to be the best area which that can be found. If we do find we like it as much as we hope to then we are going to be looking at a permanent place in Henderson or other nice areas.

I think we need more info to adequately respond, except to give general ideas of the neighborhood - that's been done very well in the previous responses. My concerns are these - How long have you been married - what is your income expectation for the future, more than your current income? - both working from home in a studio apartment - in Las Vegas? - why? - plans for a family - several more questions of the same ilk.

I love my wife dearly, but if we were together 24-7 in a studio apartment, I don't think either of us would be at all happy. I'm not trying to throw cold water on this, but make darn sure you know what you're getting into ahead of time.

I, too, wonder why you want to move to Vegas. If you both gamble, you might want to be careful having that temptation at your fingertips, so to speak. I love Vegas, but wouldn't want to live there. I understand their health services are not that great, either. So, why do you want to move to Vegas?.

I understand what you are saying. We are only planning to spend 6 months in a studio while finding out if Vegas is a good fit for us. If it is we will be looking for a home. We lived in a studio apartment in Playa del Carmen for a year before getting a 2 bedroom apartment and were fine. We have been married 26 years and our children are grown. Our income expectation for the future is pretty much the same as it is now until retirement when we start receiving our pensions. And we would not be together in a studio 24/7. When not working we love getting out and about.

We are not sure if we want to move there. That is why we are giving it a 6 month trial run. We like the idea though because of the weather, entertainment, and direct flights out of the airport. We spend time every year in Mexico and it would be easy to fly from there.

When I first moved here for a job, my wife wasn't coming for about two months so I stayed in a long term stay hotel for 3.5 months. I don't think that would be an option for you based on cost although in my research I did find some available houses for the summer that I considered. If you are coming out sometime between Easter and Thanksgiving, you might be able to find someone who vacates for the LV summer which would get you a few months in a furnished home for great value if (as I'm sure you could) you could demonstrate your personal integrity.

Just a thought, but sometimes those owners are willing to negotiate to keep someone in the property...of course, you would be on the hook for utilities...good luck with the move and in your search. Once you get here, there's plenty of fun stuff to do and locals discounts even if you don't gamble.

Thanks we are pretty excited. And yes a long term hotel may be in our budget. We do have a fund that we use for our stays in Mexico and could be tapped into to check Vegas out for a few months so any info on those would be good.

For the long term stay, keep in mind that if you stay 30 consecutive days they waive the tax which is pretty significant. FYI...I checked out a lot of these properties and the best deal I found was for Candlewood Suites near the Hard Rock. You can join their club and also earn points for free room nights. I can provide more details if needbe. There are several of these properties on Boulder Hwy...none of them would be acceptable to me.
