The WSOP has started and The Poker Room forum just isn't getting enough love, so I'm going to share my overwhelming excitement about my upcoming trip. My wife and I are flying to SFO from London this coming Saturday and then taking a 5 day leisurely road trip to Las Vegas. We're hitting Napa, Sacramento, Yosemite and Death Valley en route. Last year when we flew over for the Series, we arrived on the Friday and played the Monster Stack on the Saturday and the jet lag was brutal. That's why we're taking a few days to acclimatise this time around.

Planned poker tourneys are the Seniors event starting June 17th, the Solstice (called Extended Play last year) starting June 20th, and then the Monster Stack, starting 24th or 25th, depending on whether we play Day 1A or 1B. We're staying at the Rio for most of the trip, but then taking a few nights at Mandalay Bay at the end.

We've also got tickets to go and see Steely Dan on Sunday 19th, but we will have to sacrifice that if one of us makes final table of the Seniors. Seniors is a 3 day event and the other two are both scheduled to run 5 days. Of course, they only last as long as you survive. One aspect of the multi-day tournaments that I enjoy is that if (when) you don't survive until final table, you have free days to fill with activities. Admittedly, those activities are often tournaments at some of the other casinos, or the WSOP Daily Deepstacks, but last year we rented a car a couple of times and just headed out of the city.

So, who else has plans for the Series - when are you going and what are you playing?

Best of luck to you both, sounds like a great trip. I will be out there with my brother June 18-20 to see SD too - I hope I don't see you guys there because you're at the final table! No WSOP for us but I am curious to see how volatile the regular 1/2 nl games are during WSOP.

I'm a tournament player rather than cash (lol - donkaments as cash players often say) but from what I've read on the 2 plus 2 forum, the 1/2 nl games are very soft during WSOP, but the problem is trying to get on a table. It seems like the Rio cash games fill up first, then every room in town builds up huge waiting lists. Good luck - and I hope you get on a table and pull in lots of chips.

I am scheduled to play in the Seniors event also. However, unexpected work commitments may get in the way. I won't know until a couple of days before I am scheduled to leave.

I'm heading out in a couple weeks, and staying until the end of the main.

Will be playing the monster stack, and a few other tourneys while I'm there.

Found the list on my PC

    24/6 - $1500 Monster Stack (151 S-P) 10:00 @ Rio
    27/6 - $565 BPC $50k GTD (145 S-P) 12:00 @ Bin
    28/6 - $565 WPT $1m GTD (77 S-P) 10:00 @ Aria
    29/6 - $565 WPT $1m GTD (77 S-P) 10:00 @ Aria
    30/6 - $570 $500k GTD 1b (118 S-P) 11:00 @ GN
    01/7 - $570 $500k GTD 1c (118 S-P) 11:00 @ GN
    06/7 - $600 $250k GTD 1b (87 S-P) 12:00 @ Wynn

Staying at the Nugget for the first 2 weeks, and then moving to the D for the next 2. Got a room at the Rio with a friend from the 8th, but will only stay there if I get hammered while I'm there :)

Got tickets for all 3 UFC events over 7/8/9th July, and will likely try to see the Michael Jackson Cirque at Mandalay Bay, too.

Best of luck to all chancing their arm in the WSOP!

My first trip to Vegas was in 2008 during WSOP and that was an expensive mistake. I had such a blast that I have been there every year during WSOP since then. :rolleyes2:

Nowadays I play almost only cash games and those are great during WSOP. Actually it´s not that difficult to find a seat in cash games if you are using Bravo application. Yes, it might be that biggest rooms like Aria, Venetian and Bellagio are full during most popular WSOP events, but the only time it has taken a long time to find a seat in ANY of the Strip poker rooms was during the first Colossus that was held last year.

This year we are coming with my girlfriend on 21st of June and we are staying for two weeks. My gf likes to play tournaments, but most likely she will play some of the lower buy-in tournaments in places like Planet Hollywood or Golden Nugget (100-200$)

Best of luck to all VMB poker enthusiasts and really looking forward for some trip reports with WSOP tournament content.

I'm there from 13th to 23rd June and am playing the Seniors game on the 17th too Brian(I will wear my Celtic top so you can hail hail me lol).

Will mostly be playing cash games at $1/2 or $1/3 as prefer the hit and run sessions nowadays.

Lets hope for a deep run for both of us and not too many bad beats.

    Not long now, Jimmy!!

Mine was 2006 for the main, and bar 2007 I went every summer until last year, which I had to skip for health reasons.

Nowadays I play mostly drinking games... I'll possibly be playing some cash games at the Nugget during the 2 weeks you're in Vegas, so there might be some free money at your table!

Best of luck, and I'm the young cripple drink-driving a scooter if our paths do cross

It's great to hear so many VMBers will be in town over the course of the series - and lots of international travelers too, I notice. I'm envious of Marky147's tournament schedule - hope you get some deep runs from that lot, especially the Main.

I will definitely be doing a poker-heavy Trip Report once I get there, and I will put a post in here to link to it in the TR forum once it starts.

Calella - I will keep an eye open for the hoops short and will certainly say hello if I spot you!

Good luck to all VMBers in your cash games and tournaments.

I will be in town over July 4th Weekend and I am considering playing in the new Crazy 8s tournament. I'm not sure I'll have the time to play in a tournament, but does anyone know how the payouts work in that tournament. The tournament structure sheet indicates that "(Payouts Start On Day One). Does anyone know what that means? I know that most tournaments pay out the top 10% or so. I've attached the structure sheet for your reference.

That's pretty much a turbo event compared to most of the structures. It says they're playing 18 levels on Day 1 so the blind structure basically guarantees that the money bubble will burst in Day 1. I'm never sure how they work this out to make it fair across the different flights, but they usually pay out around 15% of the field, and min cash is around double the buy in.

We are staying at the Nugget 24th-26th June, but it seems that you will be in the bracelet hunt during that weekend. But if you have time to play some cash at the Nugget, I am that middle-aged guy drinking too much Coronas.

If I'm not playing poker, I'm usually at Claude's Bar drinking, so I'll probably be sat directly outside the cash room doing the same by about 9pm.

With regard to the payout on Day 1, they work out a payout structure based on the number of entries for that day (eg if 1000 people entered, 150 would get paid as its 15% paid), and play until the end of L18. Whoever is left play on Day 2, and what they do then is take each days prizepool, take off the money paid out, lump it all in one big pool and come up with a different payout structure, which is used until the end. Anybody who makes Day 2 will make more money than any Day 1 finisher.

Oh, and anybody who wants to say hi whilst playing the Seniors, I'll be the dude walking around in a WSOP hoodie with a pen and paper.

I'm in Vegas. There's less than an hour till the start of the Seniors. I will be attempting a live TR combining all the usual Vegas chat plus some poker news as we go. I've made the first post in the TR forum so if you want to follow along, that's where to look.

Good luck to all VMBers in the quest for a bracelet.
