    My Trip Report

Our flight from IAH was not until 6pm, so I spent most of the day trying to remember what I was forgetting to pack, and play with the pups. That’s the only thing I miss in Vegas. Glad to have a good sitter for them when we travel.

We both got precheck AND had United lounge passes, so the beginning of the trip was very smooth. We got into Vegas around 7:30, came down into baggage claim, excitedly looking for the driver with our name on the IPAD. Nope! Called Paris, and they had the wrong flight number. No big deal. They had someone out in about ten minutes.
Got to Paris, and no bellman for the luggage. We did not feel like waiting,so lugged them in ourselves to the Diamond checkin.( I hate to bitch, but last time, our driver called ahead, the bellman opened our door, welcomed us by name, got our luggage, waited for us to check in then followed us to the room. Felt like a celebrity.)

We chose Paris this time, even though we had been staying at Planet Hollywood lately, due to our amazing host, Hunter. I just like Paris pools better. We had stayed at Paris in previous years, so we were looking forward to this. We were in a Calais suite 801P. Very nice. Beautiful view. Couldn’t get a higher floor, because we were there for seven nights, but the view of the Eiffel Tower and pool, strip was very nice. You could see the tips of the Fountains. Dogs for CC 002.JPG 20160615_200254.jpg

I love that the Calais suite has two bathrooms. Love it. Also, love the jetted tub. Very strong jets. Love to read in the tub. So relaxing. 20160622_125432.jpg

My only complaint about the room was the pillows! They were HORRIBLE! Like bags of rocks.I asked for a different kind, but they said that’s all they had. I ended up taking the big pillow out of the heavy brown sham. That was a little better.

My back was bad the whole trip, and I blamed it on the bed, but my husband slept great. I guess it’s my back…getting old…grrrr.

I really like that Paris is connected to Bally’s and that first night, I mostly played three card poker there. I love that game, but in the past couple of years, just could not win. This trip, I did pretty good, or at least my money lasted awhile. The first night, I played for about six hours at the same table. Bought in for $200 and left with $500. At the end of the night, I was almost dead even. I will take that.

I use the envelope system, and try not to use any more than one day's money at a time. It’s fun to not have to get into the next day’s funds.

Even though I had gone to bed exhausted, I was only able to sleep for two hours!!! So, I got up and took my book to the tub and relaxed there til my husband got up.

Thursday was a big day for us, as we were hoping my husband would be in the WSOP senior event for three days, beginning on Friday. So, we had booked Rock of Ages and VooDoo Steak at the Rio.

We were starving that morning…well, almost afternoon. Wanted breakfast, but view beat food, so we chose MAG. I love that place, and we had not eaten there last trip, as the lines were crazy every time we tried.

We got a nice table just inside from the patio with a great view. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted, but ended up with their cold soup of the day, which was amazing!!! Somehow, I had never tried cold soup, but it was perfect. I had smoked salmon with the fixings, also, and it was very fresh and yummy. Just coffee to drink as we needed a boost. 20160616_114403.jpg

Slotted, 3carded around a little, then got gussied up for Rock of Ages. 20160616_162711.jpg

The show was good, but seemed to drag in places. During our show, a lady had to be taken out by EMT’s so there were two intermissions. Lack of sleep really got to me, too. BTW, on the way in, in their lounge, we got two drinks. My husband got a crown royal and I got a bloody mary. The pours were VERY generous, and the bloody was delicious. They were only $14, for the two, which I thought was not a bad price at a show.

On to Voodoo Steak. I really love this place. It had been a year or two since we had been, and I forget how beautiful the view is from there. The restaurant itself is beautiful, too. I was afraid the service would be bad, because it was late, but it was great. There were several other tables there, from the show.

For dinner,we got the tuna tartar to share and husband got foie gras, which I cannot handle. The tartar was very good. We get this a lot, and this was one of the best of the trip. We got the surf and turf trio to share…filet, grilled shrimp and lobster. It was the perfect amount, with the starters, and frankly, we just waste so much food at restaurants anymore if we get separate meals. Does this mean we’re getting old? No dessert, but I do remember their crème brulee is very good.Working on my “fancy drink list”, which was a goal this trip, I had a blood orange martini. It was pretty, but a little too sweet for me. I was somehow, though, able to finish it.

After dinner, even though I was sooo tired by this time, we walked out on the deck to take pics and just take in that fantastic view. The weather was great, almost a cool breeze, just perfect. I really do enjoy this place. We said we’d come back later in the week just for dessert and more time on the deck, but never got to that. 20160616_232351.jpg I love the chairs there, too. 20160616_233209.jpg

So, to Paris around 12:30 that night, and straight up to bed, as I was exhausted and Trey had a 10:00 tournament start.

After another restless night, we got up at 8:00, got ready and headed over to the Rio. Tried to find a 3 card table, but they all were full, so played some v/p at the bar and had coffee.

I went with him to the poker room, to check it out before things got started. Brad Garrett was there playing, and he was very funny and nice. He took pics with anyone who wanted. I wish I had gotten mine with him now. FYI…we took the shuttle from Bally’s to Rio and back and my husband did this on several days. Not a bad way to go. It did run every 30 minutes, pretty much on the dot. Seven Stars and Diamond got on first, and the bus was pretty full most of the time. I do enjoy the line skip. I feel a little bad, but I get over it.

My husband did not make money in this tourney. He was out late the first day. He played in several deep stack tournaments after this one. Did not make money, but played a long time, so probably spent less money than if he had been slotting or otherwise in the casino.

I hate when he doesn’t make money, but he took it really well this time. He had won his league at home, and felt he was playing well. He just wasn’t getting good cards. He did enjoy it, though, and that’s all that matters. 20160617_095521.jpg

The days begin to run together now, as they do, and I need to get out my pictures, to put things in order.

One night, we walked down to the Linq, and went straight through, as opposed to going through other casinos, as the weather was so nice. I wore pants, and was comfortable. I played for quite awhile at TAG bar and actually came out a few hundred ahead for that session. I think this is the first time I won at TAG, but I love their beer. This time I had Rekorderlig cider, which I had read about, and it was fantastic. I like the strawberry lime better than the pear, but both were great. Not too sweet. A weird thing…the strawberry lime cider has a pretty funky smell, not at all like it tastes..wierd.

After TAG, we went to Guy Fieri’s , which I always enjoy. We sat outside and watched the EDC crowd go by. The patio there is a great spot as it is close to Carnival Court and some of th people getting paid for pictures. More on that later….We were starving when we go there, so had truffle fries, OMG!!! Too much, of course, but they were really amazing. Got burgers and they were good as usual. Left stuffed, but happy. 20160617_122337.jpg Oh yeah! Got some purple streaks for Vegas! Think I'm gonna keep them.

So, back to the picture people. We had seen one guy, wearing just a pair of red, white and blue underwear, and thought he was just hanging out…pun intended…but realized he was posing for pics. When we walked to Harrah’s, there were also two girls in body paint and tiny thongs. See attached pic of husband with girls.:) 20160617_222635.jpg

Played some 3 card at Harrah’s and did not do well, though husband did. I wondered around and slotted/vp’d for while, then we headed to home base. Every night, we usually ended up at Bally’s, me on VP, husband on 3card or slots.

We had one pool day together, I should make myself go out there by myself, at least for a few hours, because I find it so relaxing, but I didn’t this time. By this time…Monday? It was superhot, so I spent most of the time IN the pool. 20160622_125556.jpg

One of the highlights of the past several years has been a massage at Paris’ Mandara Spa with Ovid. He is amazing. If you get a chance, book a massage with him. You will not regret it. I got an 80minute massage and it was, as usual, wonderful. I had planned to spend some time in the steam room and use the facilities, but my husband was out of the tournament and headed back, so we hooked up for the day.

Lunch at Eiffel Tower. I love this restaurant, and even though the fountains were not operating on this day, the view cannot be beat. I am not crazy about their dinner menu, so lunch is perfect. Last trip, I had discovered their seafood salad, which has shrimp, lobster, crab, avocado, and comes with a super light lemony vinaigrette. So, I knew I would get that again, and it did not disappoint. I also had a champagne cocktail with berries, which was delicious…working on that fancy drink list again. The bartender gave me a long spoon to get the berries out with. I thought that was a nice touch. I hate to have to go digging for berries with my fingers!! 20160621_112259.jpg 20160621_113602.jpg 20160621_121340.jpg

One night we walked down to Wynn, by way of Flamingo and TAG, as I had not gotten down that way in years, and just wanted to look at the beauty of the place.

We stopped in Flamingo, and I was really impressed with the changes. I used to hate that place, the way it SCREAMED pink, and I like that color. It always seemed so chaotic. It is somewhat toned down now, and I really like it. I played 3card mostly, and my husband found a gold bar 7’s machine that was quite good to him. Drink service was really good there, too.

Stopped by TAG, for a few more Rekorderligs while the husband played Hell’s Bells. He seems to do pretty well on this one.

On to the Venetian, where we just walked through the shops and took pictures. I had not been in here for awhile either, and forget how beautiful it is. We did not gamble at all here, as I find it hard to gamble outside of a CET property…to each his own.

We did have the most amazing gelato at a little shop there. I wish I could remember the name. OMG this stuff was orgasmic. I got cherry, and my husband got coconut. It was truly amazing. I can taste it right now. OMG. 20160620_225811.jpg

From here, we went to the Wynn, and just took it all in. I don’t think the fountains outside were there the last time I was there. I love them. They are not the Bellagio Fountains, but beautiful still. Thought I had pics of these musical fountains, but can't find them.

We were not going to gamble, as we didn’t have our red cards, and well, not CET. But my husband started trying out a few slots. So, I went and got cards, and sat down at an Elvis machine that this couple seemed to really be hitting on. Elvis slots are hard to find these days, at least at CET. I sat down on this machine, put in $100 and came out with over $300. The couple that had been there were still there when we left and still hitting. My husband played at the other one, and he took out over $200 also. Glad we broke our rule.

Oh! Almost forgot! I remembered to ask for a chocolate martini at Wynn..and Wow!! They do not disappoint! Strong but so delicious!

Late night munchies…we ended up at Hexx two different nights…quite late. They are open 24 hours. I really like the look of this place over the Sugar Factory, and we really enjoyed our food. We sat outside on the patio, to people watch, but they have these cozy little booths with curtains. I can imagine what goes on in there!

The first night we got “overcooked” bacon…which is a really thick bacon with brown sugar and spices…YUM!! And a pizza. The pizza was very tasty, if a little oily. I had an amazing drink…will have to check notes for name, that I ended up having again a few nights later. 20160619_000438.jpg

What did I have the second time? My husband had eggs benedict and said it was great. His appetite has not been good lately, but he ate most of this. I had the same drink, and though it was made a little differently, it was still very delicious….fancy drink list. 20160619_000027.jpg 20160618_235909.jpg

We checked out Tequila Taqueria in Bally’s one day and it was surprisingly good. I had a really good grilled shrimp salad and my husband had quesadillas. I also ordered a version of a dark and stormy and did not like it. I tried to drink it, but only had about a third, then ordered a beer. Our waitress took it off the bill, though I did not ask her to. I would def. go back here for a quick lunch. I did miss the free chips and salsa you always get at Mexican restaurants in Texas, but I’m sure I didn’t need them anyway. 20160618_123151.jpg 20160618_125645.jpg

On my fancy drink quest, I did go to 3535 at the Linq, which I think is a very pretty bar. You can also get free really good drinks while playing video poker. While my husband played slots, I perused the drink menu and chose a watermelon drink that tasted almost exactly like liquid watermelon. After the first one, I had him salt the rim, which made it perfect. I had four. Even my husband liked them. 20160621_212039.jpg

An odd thing happened there, though, that I mentioned in my survey we got. I had not been there long, when a young lady, I’m thinking late twenties, early thirties, came in and sat by me. She seemed to know the bartender and they chatted a little. Soon after she got there, an older man came in and immediately started fussing at her. He mentioned that she had kissed a married man at a work party, and that she jeopardized her job. Well, that part I agree with, is wrong, but he kept repeating it and getting louder and louder. I really thought the bartender should at least asked if she was okay. I gave the “the look” a couple of times, but they didn’t say anything. I felt uncomfortable, so I left. I felt sorry for her. Yes, she did not seem like the wisest cookie in the jar, but he really was bullying her.

Also, the seats at the bar are not very comfortable. It feels like you are leaning forward in them. Of course, I did put up with it for the delicious drinks, until things got uncomfortable in another way.

Oh! I almost forgot about Steeley Dan! That was what we had planned this trip around. Well, that, and WSOP. My husband had surprised me with Garth Brooks tickets for Christmas, then Steely Dan came up later. This is one of my husband’s favorite bands of all times, and surely they won’t tour much longer. We had seen Garth recently, and I love him, but I knew my husband would love to see SD. When the amazing Hunter said he could get us tickets, we sealed the dates for the trip.

When we picked up our seats, we were excited to see fifth row seats! So close! I am not a big SD fan, but did enjoy it, as they had a really good band.

We used my $100 diamond certificate to have dinner at BLT, which we have enjoyed in the past. This time was no different. We got the “special treats” for VIP’s and had tuna tartar. Good, but not as good as Voodoo. We split the ten ounce filet with crab on top, baked potato and asparagus. Steak was delicious. Baked potato just okay, way too big. The asparagus would have been plenty, although the waitress said she suggested one side each. Of course she did. We had more than half left.Sorry, no pics here, either.

One thing I did one day that I really enjoyed, was go on a mini "casino hop". I was going to put twenty into a slot and if I spent it, move on. I hit a couple good slots, including Flintstones at Bally's and made it down to Harrah's. It took awhile and was fun. 20160617_174930.jpg 20160617_180003.jpg

So, all in all, this was a very good trip. We did not leave all of our money in Vegas. I use the envelope system. Two days, I did not have to get more money!! I was so sure this would be a big winning trip, as I had a good run at VP at Coushatta a few weeks before we came out, but I guess it was not meant to be. We have done worse, though. 20160621_234206.jpg 20160618_121449.jpg 20160617_225800.jpg 20160618_121359.jpg 20160621_013055.jpg
Just a few more pics from the trip. We also did the High Roller again, and it was cool to see the Bellagio Fountains from there. 20160621_233717.jpg

Usually, during this trip, we have friends who are in town, but stay downtown. We usually get together with them a few times, and the wife of the couple and I usually have a few pool days. I missed this, as this was a poker trip for the husband. I certainly feel safe and comfortable in Vegas on my own, but it’s fun with friends too. Next time, I need to go online and check who is in town from the boards and meet up with some people.

Hope I didn’t bore you too much. Love reading TR’s and felt the need to reciprocate.

Muck luck and love to everyone!

Please excuse any repeats or mistakes. I goofed up at some point and lost some stuff, so this may be a little disjointed.

(Please excuse any repetitions or mistakes. I have goofed around and lost some of this, so it might not seem to flow well.)

Sounds like a great trip. Fun surrounding some really strange sounding drinks in LV. What more could you want?

Really enjoyed your report and loved reading about all the places you visited as I was in most of them on my trip last month.

I really need to check out a Vegas pool at some point as that is now 6 trips and never even made poolside at any hotel never mind get in one lol.

Callela, if you choose one pool, the most beautiful one I have seen in Caesar's. Pictures don't do it justice. I've only seen it once, on a previous visit when it was too cold to swim. I keep meaning to go over there. I'd even pay. It's that pretty.

I'm bad about mainly eating at CET properties, when there are other really good options, but we were pleased with our meals this trip, for sure.

Great trip report and the pictures. I am the same way as you. I am so devoted to CES, that I never play at any other properties. LOL

It is tough to play at other casinos. I did go between Aria and CET for a few years. I really want to stay a night or two in a fountain view Cosmo room, too, though.
