    My Trip Report

This trip was sandwiched between trips to the Sugar Bowl and the National Title game so it's been a busy couple of weeks. Let's just say, the results of both games were highly satisfying.

OK, as for that minor 4 day detour in Vegas...

    Guys trip, staying at MSS...

I used to be a 'strip guy' then I became a 'downtown guy' when the crowds and prices on the strip become too much for me to bear. I'm not sure what's next. Too many people on the strip. DT is too depressing. Girls at Golden Gate weren't doing it for me. El Co took my money despite the best rules blackjack on the planet. MSS beers didn't taste the same to me. I mean they did, I just didn't enjoy them as much.

Ate at the Bellagio lunch buffet. It was pretty good. No crab legs at the lunch buffet FYI. Used a MyVegas reward for that. I have about 700,000 LPs but really nothing to use them on. Maybe if I go with my wife we'll use some for a room. I think I'm done with that game.

MSS was fine. Nothing special. Nice place, nice VP bar. A friend got a couple $2 scratch offs. I hit nothing but that's OK, i didn't play long enough to be upset by that. I played way more than normal, but still not a lot.

Played their double bj pitch deck game. Lost more than I won.

I'll try to make this somewhat chronological:

Day one, ate at aforementioned buffet. Checked in at MSS and won money at their blakcjack tables. Then won some more at Golden Gate. I think we ate pizza at the plaza. The smell in that place is pretty powerful at first but I got used to it quickly. I did see two tito machines in there. It had been previously reported that they only had one. I was up pretty late that day which was an amazing feat after partying for two days before arriving and having a 6 am flight.

Day two, slept till noon. Plaza pizza for lunch (this is a theme). I think we had planned to hit the strip but walked into LVC and wow that place is depressing. But not too depressing to drop $200 with their boobjack dealers. It was a fun time, actually. Next stop was Golden Gate. By this time I was pretty drunk and calling for cards I needed and screaming like a maniac when I would get them. We were playing free bet so every time someone had a free bet opportunity I would yell, 'you have to take it, it's a FREE BET!!! ha ha ha' like I was clever. I hadn't really remembered that but my buddies reminded me and it all came back. Well not all, but enough to get the gist. Apparently I was the only one who really thought I was all that clever.

Anyway, lost money there and me and one of my party decided the best thing to do at that point would be to chase our losses at El Co. Sat down at a $10 single deck game. Big mistake. We lost 7 out of the first nine hands or something so of course decided to stay as the cards were bound to turn. They didn't. I had quit drinking at this point so was pretty sober. Stopped at some mexican place on the way back. I think the word 'comida' was in the name. Not in a casino.

LVC and GG losses were ok as I was (apparently) having a really good time. El Co was just stupid. Another lesson learned. And soon to be forgotten so I can relearn next year.

Days three and four will have to follow later. I may edit this. I hope it doesn't sound as depressing as it feels. It was a good trip. Just not a great trip.

Thread does not live up to the title.

And I feel like the level of detail is fine. This isn't boring to me so far. I also wonder how many people you tilted with the "free bet" thing...haha

I actually like these type of reports better than "live" ones. Not boring at all. Or am I the one who's boring which is why I like it?

    Who cares. I like it.

Woke up, went to Hash House a go go or whatever that place is called in plaza and had a mountain of food. Or rather, they brought me a mountain and I ate what I could. Was with with one my friends at the time as the others were eating pizza, sleeping, or doing god knows what. We had ACGs so after eating the two of us used the $25 match play at the D and a $10 match play and free deck of cards at Downtown Grand. We each won one of the bets. I lost the bigger bet though so was a loser overall. Then I went to El Co to take out $1000 cash and get the 5% free play. Put in my ATM card, go through the usual motions like a robot, get my money....shit, I hit do not want a receipt so I have nothing to take to the players desk. Oh, no big deal, I'll just take out another $1000 (and deposit it as soon as I get home)...*YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR DAILY LIMIT*..well, shit. Ok not big deal, i'll come back tomorrow...which never happened.

Mosey back to Plaza, meet two of the other guys and the four of us hop a cab to Twin Peaks to meet the other three who are already there saving us a table. We tell the asian cabbie to take us to Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks? Yes, it's on the strip by Planet Hollywood. You go to watch football? Yes. ESPN Zone nice. OK...thanks for the tip??

20 minutes later we are in the drop off zone at NYNY. I knew were were in trouble when he got off on tropicana. We tried telling him this is not where we wanted to go. ESPN Zone. Yeah, we know. We told you Twin Peaks. There was a slight communication gap so we paid the bill with minimal tip and walked the rest of the way.

When we get to TP the waitress with big fake cans comes out all smiley with shots of fireball our friends have apparently ordered for us. I don't really want a shot out of their 'shot ski' but the shit eating grin on my friend's face was too much for me to disappoint. He was tanked by the time we got there. In fact, he called it a night early and threw up the entire next day!

I don't even remember what game we watched at TP (the first game on Sat) or who won. I know I went 2-2 on NFL bets for the weekend. The only one I remember in detail is the packers won by 5 and I had them at +5.5 so I lost the bet because they missed a 2 point conversion they didn't need to even try. Our waitress was pretty cute I guess, hot body, a little old for a place like that but most of the others had a little extra cushioning. But she was kind of annoying. Nagging us to buy calendars (of course my drunk friend bought 3. they are the weirdest calendars...girls with guns if you're into that. I'm not) and told us she was the oldest girl in their at '30'. I figure if she's really 30 she'll say she's 27 so she much be like 35. She was clearly the oldest girl in there even though we acted shocked when she told us.

After that we went to Planet Hollywood and watched some of the second game. Then off to Bellagio to play some machines and get some more drinks. Then back to down town. I can't think of anything noteworthy that happened. My brother made shirts for us all so we had a shirt unveiling. One of our friends never made it that far. Apparently he passed out on the bed. Another guy called it a night early. The rest of us walked fremont. I think i played a little blackjack and vp at mss or golden gate but not much.

This is taking longer than i thought to type. Day four to follow. Don't expect much as it was even less eventful than Day 3. It was like work having to get up on Day 4. Had to set an alarm to get our football bets in, had to get hammered again. Such a grind.

What kind of shirts did your brother make? My curiosity is piqued. The age of the waitress story reminded me of something I'd long since forgotten. On our first trip to Vegas after my, back then Vegas partner in crime, friend and I really did turn 30, we told everyone we were 40. We rather enjoyed people telling us how much younger we looked :)

He photo-shopped each of our faces on to a picture of sum bag steve with person specific jokes along the scum bag steve meme. (if not familiar its mostly safe for work if you want to look it up or just do so with a smart phone). Most of them were pretty clever, actually.

    OK, I'll wrap this up.

Woke up the next day and went to the Venetian for some pizza, a beer from sin city, and found a lounge to watch the football game(s) in. Placed a bet on Ohio State to win the title game. Cabbed to Hard Rock and played a few of their machines and had their steak special. Probably not worth it any more. No salad, you have to buy a drink. I guess it was pretty good still but it seems like they find some way to diminish it every year. Hard rock was a ghost town on a Sunday night.

From Hard Rock we went back down town and played a few more losing hands of blackjack and walked fremont and listened to an 80s band, etc etc etc.

Woke up the next morning telling me my flight was 2 hours delayed. My three hour window between landing and kick off was now one hour and the drive from the airport to the game was half an hour plus baggage, shuttle, etc...I got to my seat a few minutes after kick off.

But alls well that ends well.

Usually I have some kind of conclusions, interesting observations, or new finds after a trip. Other than the requirement to buy a drink to get the hard rock steak special I can't think of any. And making sure to print your receipt at the el co atm.

All in all it was a fun, if losing, trip. I'm just not dying to go back right away like a usually am. Downtown seemed dingier than usual. The strip seemed...tired. I dunno. Of course, either one is better than working!

Definitely do Bellagio dinner buffet. The crab legs are great! Not offered at the lunch buffet.

I thought they were good...but the best part to me is that they pre-split them. The local casinos here typically don't do that. Crab legs aren't that great if you have to crack them open yourself.
