I hadn’t been to Vegas since October when I went for my car club’s annual show, so I just had the itch to go and get out of town. I had a decent offer from Excalibur for 2 free nights, resort fee comped, $50 FP and $50 RC, so I booked it to check in April 7th and check out April 9th. I set the trip up to be a day earlier than I usually do, I usually go up Friday after work and come back Sunday morning...I wanted to shift it a day so that I could come back Saturday morning, recover through Saturday and then still get some stuff done on Sunday. I had $1000 for gambling and I was going with my buddy Snipes. Snipes has a lady friend that lives in Vegas, Tee, so he was going to stay a few extra days and spend time with her. Since I started going to Vegas in 2011, my tradition was always to run $120 through the Lion’s Share slot...well, when someone decided to hit the jackpot, my tradition was no more. My new tradition has been a single spin on a $100 denomination slot. Snipes and I left Thursday about 2:30pm, stopped in Kingman for dinner where I got free soup (FIRST WIN), and arrived at Excalibur around 8pm, parked in the garage and headed to registration. I am Gold with MLIFE so I usually go to the VIP check-in and bypass the line, but there was no one working the VIP desk (probably because it was a Thursday), so we waited about 15 minutes in line to get to the check-in desk. When I checked in they had me in a Resort room (Tower 2), I knew they had just renovated the Tower 1 rooms and are now called the “Royal Rooms”, so I asked if they had any available and they gave me one with “a good view”. I figure the Royal rooms, being the most newly renovated, would be nicer than the Resort rooms which were renovated a few years ago. Well... they really cut corners on this renovation. They changed the light fixtures throughout the floor, but they didn’t patch the holes from the prior fixtures. The rooms were not that nice, looks like they just put in newer furniture, maybe changed the carpet. The Resort Rooms are MUCH nicer. They now have the towers called Royal and Resort towers, instead of Tower 1 an 2. We did have a pretty cool view though... they turn the light off between 3am and 3:30am... just FYI After we got settled in the room, relaxed for a few minutes, I wanted to go to the little store and get some water bottles and some drinks. Got the drinks, went back to the room and drank the drinks, then head down stairs and play a bit to get a few “free” drinks before we jump to NYNY. Snipes does not gamble much at all, so I tried to find slots that had the option for reduced lines (i.e 1, 5, 10, 25, 40 lines) at 1 cent denominations. I was playing 40 cents to a dollar per spin and Snipes was playing 5 to 10 cents a spin. We played for about 20 minutes and didn’t see a single CW, so we moved to a new section and still didn’t see one, so we just bought some drinks at the bar. I finally saw a CW, flagged her down, and she told me that this wasn’t her section, but she would tell our CW to swing by. Ten minutes later she showed up; we ordered two beers and two shots, she said they usually only do 1 drink each but she would bring us two since we waited. Snipes was skeptical that she would return, I assured him she would, so then he was skeptical that she would have the beers AND the shots... he said if she DID return with both, then he would do a max bet spin. Well sure enough she returned, and had both our beers and shots. So Snipes said “I am a man of my word” and hit the max bet button, and wouldn’t you know it, he hits a $45 line hit!! Snipes immediately cashed out and we moved on to NYNY, played a bit there then moved on to MGM. Up to this point I was getting killed, was not really hitting anything good and not even enough to let me play for a good amount of time. Snipes on the other hand was killing it, he was hitting bonus rounds left and right, unfortunately he was only playing 5 – 10 lines so he wasn’t hitting too much in the bonus rounds but he was still making a few bucks on each machine we played. It was nearly 3am and I was down to my last $40 for the day, I wanted to play the 2 credit Top Dollar that MGM has so we walked over to that area. We got to the machine and there was, what I think was, a hooker just sitting at it...not playing. I didn’t want to talk to her so we sat a bit away at a different slot to watch until she left, I played the machine we sat at lost my last $40... then she got up and moved...GREEEEAT timing. I had a $100 bill in my wallet that I set aside for my traditional $100 slot spin, I decided to use that $100 to play Top Dollar and I would just replace it from tomorrow’s budget. About 10 spins in I hit the Top Dollar bonus... first two offers were 20 and 25, I elected to try again, 3rd offer was 45, I almost accepted but got greedy and decided to try again... final offer was 10...DOH!!! I kept playing and about 20 spins later I hit the bonus again. The first offer was 20, so I select try again, then the machine goes “SECOND OFFER” and the $1000 symbol lights up!!! I am speechless, my mouth drops, I look at Snipes, and him not being the gambler I am, goes “what is that”, I yell $1000!!!! I let my credits count up, then immediately cash out, leaving the symbol on the payline and the screen say 1000 credits. I was surprised that the ticket kiosk allowed me to cash it without going to the cage, my local only cashes up to $300 at the kiosk. We head back to Excalibur and stop at the new $1 Big Bang Theory slot (5 line, $1 denom, up to 3x line bet), I slide in a $100 and within a few spins hit thh Bazinga Bonus and end up winning another $100. I end the first night up $600! Got back to the room, pounded some pedialyte and went to bed Went to bed at about 3:30am, and still being on my work schedule woke up at 6:30am feeling pretty crappy. I didn’t have a headache, thanks to the pedialyte, but my body and brain just felt out of wake. I took a shower and brushed my teeth and started to feel a little better. Snipes and I headed to McDs for Breakfast then ran by the sports book to see if they had any bets for the Master’s golf tourney. They didn’t really have anything other than the “who will win” bets. So I made a future NFL and F1 racing bet. We went back up to the room to relax a bit and figure out the plan for the day. Snipes was texting Tee and she said she was going to come hang with us. We met up with Tee at Dick’s for some food and drinks, I wasn’t planning on starting to drink this early...but I was still feeling crappy so figured a beer might help, and it did! After eating we walked over to the sports book to watch golf. While we were sitting there I started reading the keno booklet and under my breathe I said “How do you play this”, some lady with Vulcan hearing heard me and walked over and explained it to me, it sounded like fun so Snipes and I went up to play $5 worth each. The lady at the Keno desk said if we bet $10 then we get a drink ticket, so of course we bet $10! The CW came by and we got drinks, gave her the drink tickets and it was easy a pie. A bit later she came by again we ordered another round and she asked for our tickets, we told her we didn’t have any more and that we would just pay for them. A guy sitting a ways away heard us, another Vulcan I guess, and came over and gave us 6 drink tickets, said he had way more than he would use and didn’t want them to go to waste. His tickets were blue, where as ours had been red. Turns out his were for horse and sports betting and ours were specific to keno. I went up to the sports book and asked if I could get drink tickets for bets I made this morning (my NFL and F1 bets)... she asked if I bet $100 or more...I said not even close... apparently you need to bet $100 in sports or horses to get a drink ticket! That guy had probably a dozen tickets!!!!! We watched golf and played keno a bit longer and then I wanted to go to Margaritaville to play Mississippi Stud (only place I have ever won at Mississippi Stud). We took a cab to Flamingo and walked to Margaritaville. Snipes and Tee had never seen Mississippi Stud, so I was excited to show them. My first 5 hands were junk...instant folds. Snipes and Tee were not impressed with the game so far. Then I got a few medium hands that I could actually play, didn’t win, but at least they could see how the game works, finally got a pair so they could see a winner. They decided to head to the restaurant to get an appetizer while I kept playing. A few hands later I got 8 9 and decided to see 3rd street and it came out 8. So I maxed out 4th and 5th since worst case I would push; the next card was a 9! NICE TWO PAIR! The dealer slowly flips 5th street and BOOM 8! FULL HOUSE!!!! 10:1!!! Got paid $400, tipped $25, played a few more hands then left with a nice $400 profit. I went over to Flamingo and sat at a Mississippi stud table where two other people were playing. I saw there was a sign on the table listing the rules and one of the rules was “No Shoulder Bets”... I had never heard that term before so I asked the dealer and she didn’t know either. She stopped dealing the game and called over the Pit Boss and asked. I felt really bad for the other two people that I paused the game... finally got an answer, people standing behind you can’t tell you what to bet...makes total sense now that I know what it means. The next few hands go bad and one of the people makes a comment “geez, this guy asks a questions and the table goes cold...thanks bud”. Then the table turns and the next few hands went great for me (still bad for the others), three no brainers, one turned into a three of a kind, so I cashed out up $150. I played a few random slots around Flamingo then met back up with Snipes and Tee and we walked back to Excalibur. We stopped at several casinos along the way, played some random slots had a really good time, but nothing too crazy to write about. We ended up back at Excalibur around 8:30pm and went to the sports book to watch some TV. I bought a few more Keno games to play and ended up winning $20 on my last game. I really wanted to go to the Buffet so I looked up when they closed and they close at 10... it was 9:20 already so I decided I better get going. I went to cash in my Keno ticket but there was a line so I decided I would do it after the buffet, Snipes and Tee were going to head back to her place since I was leaving to head home early in the morning and Snipes was staying the weekend. As we were walking back to the room to gets Snipes’ stuff he reminded me of the $100 slot spin. He asked if it was something I wanted to do in private, I said no and that they should come along. We walked over to the high limit area and they have four $100 denom slots: a wheel of fortune, two double diamonds, and 1 other random one that I don’t remember details on (it was two credit max). I decided on the double diamond... put my MLIFE card in (it registered right away), put my $100 bill in (it accepted first try), I took a deep breath, and pushed the button... the reels spin and BOOM BEEP BOOM, CLANG!! The first and third reel landed triple bar on the pay line, the middle reel landed triple bar just below the pay line...but WAIT, it has a directional diamond so it nudged up one spot to the payline!! Time felt like it paused for a moment, my brain was too slow (probably from 12 hours of drinking) to realize what had just happened, I couldn’t believe it!! The machine starts beeping and flashing, Snipes, not being the gamble I am, asks “what does that mean” I yell $4000!!!!! Jump out of the chair and starting jumping up and down like a little girl, hootin’ and hollerin’. People in the diamond lounge must have heard or saw me and came running out to see what happened, they were really excited for me and gave me high fives and cheers. The slot attendant came by and took my ID and SSN, and then the CW came around the corner and asked if we needed anything, I yell “Three shots of fireball”. Slot attendant came back and paid me, I tipped $20. Then the CW came back with our shots, I tipped $20. It was just so crazy how everything lined up perfectly... the line at keno so I couldn’t cash in my ticket, Snipes reminding me when he did, the MLIFE card reading first try, the bill receptor accepting first try, and me not recording the spin. I ALWAYS record my $100 spins, but just forgot this time (again probably from drinking all day). If I had remembered to get my phone out and get the video recorder set up the timing would have been different and I might not have won! I tried one more spin on the other Double Diamond $100 denom slot and the first two reels landed single bar on the pay line, the third reel landed double diamond above, and single bar below...but no (or wrong direction, can’t remember) diamond. SO CLOSE!!! We head to the room to get Snipes’ stuff; I put most of the cash in the safe and we head back down to meet Tee. I say goodbye and race up to the buffet...but I missed it!! Oh well... I will trade mediocre crab legs for $4000 any day! I go to Buca and sit at the bar and eat and have a glass of nice scotch to celebrate. I then go back to the casino to play some, hoping the streak is still alive... it wasn’t, I get killed at Blackjack, Roulette, Slots, everything I touch I lose. I head back to the room grab more money and go back down thinking I am not going to leave on a lose!! I keep losing! Go back to the room and get more money, by this point I have given back over $1000 in 25 minutes...more than my whole trip bankroll! I finally get something rolling and hit a good bonus round on the 5 Fortune slot, I cash out and go to bed only giving back a little bit. I wake up the next morning feeling like crap...7 hours of sleep over the past 48 hours will catch up with you. I go down to check out and they comp off nearly everything that we had charged to the room (several rounds at various bars and my Buca dinner), go to my car and drive home with over $4600 in my pocket!! My biggest winning Vegas trip ever!!!
