I guess considering this is the first major work it's held up pretty well.

The rooms in the main Mandalay tower were renovated several years ago.

When Mandalay first opened in '99 I was comparing it to the Mirage, probably because of it being another gold-colored building. I can't remember whether the walkway from Luxor existed when it opened (I'm at least pretty sure the shopping mall wasn't there), but I walked into Mandalay from the Strip and was underwhelmed by the Strip frontage, particularly when compared to all the waterfalls in front of the Mirage, which, IMO, remains the best Strip-front part of a hotel. I also remember Mandalay Resort Group had planned to build another resort south of Mandalay, but I guess that was scrapped when MGM took over.

Its interesting that both Mandalay and Mirage are going to undergo casino renovations. Mirage had a great casino decor under Wynn that I think was tarnished by MGM, and I hope MGM restores some of that casino's lustre. At the same time, I hope they don't ruin what is a pretty good casino decor at Mandalay.
