So I was playing video poker at my local Horseshoe and the best they offered (jacks or better is what I play) was 8/5. Their bonus poker similar to JoB strategy was 6/5 with 35 for all 4 of a kinds. They had a offer 30 pts = free buffet and I got $10 free play so that is why I chose to go there. All these games are quarter level.

So I go to the Ameristar near me. 8/6 JoB 98.39% And 7/5 bonus poker with 80 for Aces, 35 for 2-4 and 25 for 5-K, which I think is 98.01. Of those two which would you play and why? I know bonus will have more of a variance, but I like the idea of getting a bonus for 4 of a kinds (of course when I went from bonus to Jacks I get 4 aces..:vomit:

Also on progressives they have a quarter bonus that is up to 1600 today. But pay is 6/5/35. This game is obviously worse for the percentage, but I cannot find what it is. At what point does that progressive make it worth my while to play? I know that variance would be terrible...

    Just curious what people think.

6/5/35 is 97.36 and a progressive of about 8625 coins is needed for 100%

Why would you even think of favoring a machine with a SIGNIFICANTLY lower payout and having more variance?

For the record I did not play it... but I was curious at what point royal jackpot make it worth playing or if it would even be worth playing. Or if people would move to it because of progressive.

I honestly would not because I only go with $40 or so dollars a time to have a cigar, a few beers and relax. I also only go if I have free play offers like once a week. And at 6/5 it would lessen my time away from home.

I thanks for the info on pay percentage.

So would you prefer the JoB or Bonus?

Since the best game also has a lower variance my advice would be to start with the JOB. You also need a smaller bankroll and will probably earn more points. You can always switch to bonus later if you think you're due for some 4OAKs.

" if you think you're due for some 4OAKs."

I probably shouldn't ask, but I will. How does one determine if they are "due" for some four of a kinds? Please keep in mind the principal of independence of events before you respond.

    35/6/5 Bonus with a $1600 progressive is 98.68%.

But if you're playing at the Ameristar I think you might be based on your first ever post, I would just be playing 7/5 Bonus w/Double Super Times Pay for dimes there (98.51% w/DSTP) because I'm addicted to that game... You don't have to play all the lines to max bet. I think they also have 7/5 Bonus for as cheap as pennies on the 50/100 plays too if you are looking to really lower variance (again, you don't have to play all the lines). The best single line quarter games though in that area are at Majestic Star...but of course, you'd actually have to want to play there too. And the highest payback games tend to give very little points there, no idea on how good the "bounceback" is, probably not much on those machines.

And as for Horseshoe, there is one 99%+ game for quarters...single line "Ultimate Four of a Kind Bonus" where the 6th coin bonus bet gives a significant boost when you hit a quad...but it's variance hell and requires strategy adjustments. Last time I played it there, dropped $50 fast only half way to a "free" buffet being quadless...whoops. Best variants are 7/5 Boner Deluxe (99.19%) followed by 6/5 Bonus (99.09%). Best dollar game is 7/5 Bonus (99.96%). I discuss it on videopoker.com; I'm Vman96.

Yes I understand that previous results don't impact future variance when it comes to pure games of chance. The point is that you can always shoot for the fences if you get a hunch or feel you're due regardless of the logic behind that line of thinking.

I have been playing video poker for twenty years. I started with Jacks or Better and then Bonus Poker. After that came Double-Double Bonus and now I only play Triple Double Bonus. I think the "best" game for anyone depends a lot on why you are playing. Some people want to make their bankroll last longer and will only play Jacks or Better and even then the game must have a good pay table. I tend to play for the excitement of bonus quads on Triple Double Bonus. Yes, I know this is a high variance game. On the other hand, I have had trips where I've hit quad Aces with kicker multiple times and this hand pays the same as a royal.

My opinion is to play the game you enjoy and have fun with it. Unless you find a pay table over 100% and play perfectly, the casino will always win in the long run.

Meh I would go to majestic star for a better game. I am a newbie in video poker, well a newbie in informed poker play I should say. So I have been sticking to JoB or Bonus games since that is the strategy I know best. I did not know that on multiple hand machines you can play max without playing all the hands. That is why I stayed away from those.

Can Majestic Beat 8/6 JoB or 7/5 Bonus?

Maybe I will try the horseshoe ultimate four of a kind bonus when I go with a bigger bankroll. I like the shoe because what I earn there in points I can use on dinner for my Vegas trip, but when I found out the Ameristar had better games I decided to only go to Horseshoe when I get free play offers to make it worth my while to go. I do not think I can move up to dollar machines quite yet, but if I do I will look into those

Yes that is why I stick to Jacks or Better or Bonus, and I nailed down those strategies. "(I read you can play bonus like JoB) When I get ready for my next vegas trip I will nail down the a few more games, as my bankroll for those 4 days is gonna be big enough to take the higher variance. I am just going to blow a little steam, I usually leave when my $40 or $60 is gone or I double up.

Around here there is probably no chance of finding a 100% game.

Long term (excluding comps and/or high value progressives), no there isn't. State law actually forbids slot machines or video poker to be above 100% payback as well as many other states that allow gambling... From what I can recall offhand...AZ, CO, IA, IL, IN, LA, MD, MI, MN (98% max), MS, PA, WI, WV (usually 95% max). .Nevada is the only state that offers 100%+ VP generally in practice though. Missouri got rid of their last 100%+ game (100.72% All American/USA Poker) in 2009. :(

Majestic has 9/6 Jacks (99.54%) and 9/6 Boner Deluxe (99.64%) on those machines that earn nearly zero comps. Strategies for the two games are pretty close. Straight/flush draws are closer to DDB in Boner Deluxe. They also have 10/6/5 Double Bonus on some of their quarter STP machines (98.88%; 99.16% w/STP) that should offer full points. But I definitely don't play enough there to know how much comps they really give.

Major changes between the games I listed previously: http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?112319-How-do-you-know-ALL-the-video-poker-strategies&p=1020345#post1020345

I'm sorta hoping to check out majestic again this weekend. It's been about a year...maybe more.

Interesting on the state laws. Thanks for the info on Majestic. As for earning comps at majestic, oh no, I will not get to eat the dogfood they serve at their buffet! Maybe I will stop there tomorrow to check out the Jacks or Better after the Bears game. I usually stayed away from bonus deluxe because of the even money on 2 of a kind. I will nail down DBP soon and give it a shot. Thank you.

I do enjoy the steakhouse though, that is actually not so bad. You can get a Restaurant.com for all the way up to the $200 level. We usually go there for that and then head to Ameristar or Shoe to gamble.

If you have never signed up at majestic, new members get a $100 loss rebate. I'm pissed I was already a member. Went quadless on Boner Deluxe. No beuno.

Yeah I am already a member as well. I am hoping Rivers does something like this as I never signed up for a card there. I am looking forward to full pay jacks or better tomorrow. Or even the 8/5 bonus game they have there.
