On a 3 night stay over a weekend:

2 nights @ $52 per night (plus resort fee) and one night comp (no resort fee) at Mirage

    OR

2 nights comp and 1 night @ $45 (plus resort fee on all nights I believe) at NYNY

    ??

I've already booked I'm just wondering what you would choose.

    Do I have this correct?

    Mirage – Room $104 (2 X $52) + Resort Fee $50 (2 X $25) + Tax = $172.48

    NYNY – Room $45 + Resort Fee $54 (3 X $18) + Tax = $110.88

If my figures are correct, I’d choose Mirage. $60 over three days wouldn’t be enough for me to choose to stay at a place I don’t like as much. And I prefer the rooms, location and casino of Mirage. (I’m not necessarily crazy about how dark it is, but I like the layout and games a little better at Mirage.)

If I was up against a very strict trip budget, I think I would prefer cutting the $20/day from somewhere else. It’s easy to find cheap food or booze. And $20/day taken from the bankroll of someone who’s getting comp rooms from MGM probably wouldn’t mean too much.

I could argue either way. Mirage rooms are nicer of course. But still just a room.

NYNY is a different sort of place and we seem to like it there. You are right next to MANY MGM casinos. Mirage is not.

Decision point would be where you think you will be spending your time....walking, eating, playing, drinking

+1. Not a big difference in rates after taxes, so it depends on what you plan on doing.

Personally, I prefer the Mirage and their location. However, if you plan on doing stuff at Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand then NY-NY is the way to go.

Ok then! Glad to see I'm not crazy. We chose the same. Mirage. My mom is a native New Yorker but for some reason can't stand NYNY. She feels it is too loud and closed in. I personally like the casino and I don't have any issues with the rooms. But we both love the Mirage, there is just something about it.

Now, my husband on the other hand will go for what is cheaper. He and my dad check in Sunday night and took advantage of 2 nights comp, one night at $45 at NYNY. He had a one-night better offer than what I was offered. Last year they stayed at Paris and didn't really walk down to South strip so this will give my dad a chance to play at those casinos.

We were there in May, where is the construction heaviest? I just remember it outside the Quad but I don't remember any near NYNY.

So you can't walk out the doors of MC near Diablo's and walk right accross to NYNY anymore? What's the alternative

Hehe, I would say the exact opposite. :) I'm just not a massive fan of TI/V/P/Wynn.

For me it would depend where I wanted to gamble. If I was ok with doing most of my gambling at Mirage, then I'd stay there because the rooms are significantly better.

If I want to go around a lot, I'd pick NYNY due to being next to a lot of other MGM properties. I also like the food selections better down that way than around Mirage. I'm not saying it is better good, but as I mentioned above I'm not a big fan of V/P/Wynn which is a lot of great food down that way.

Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either. You have been to Vegas enough times to know which areas you like. Mirage is a significantly better room and well worth $60 more assuming you like that location.
