Where would YOU stay in Deadwood & Rapid City?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or I should say where HAVE you stayed?

We have been to both places several times but I hate to say we get pretty 'fixed' in where we have landed every time.

Normally we stay at the Holiday Inn Express (Northeast) (3x) in Rapid City but have also stayed at Country Inn & Suites & Howard Johnson Express (not sure if still there). I like to stay on the NE corner of town as we have already driving 12 hours to get there!! At this point in time HIE is running $99.95 (w/o tax). I looked there first as I know we can walk to food & not have to pack back in the car & start driving. (sun night). I think Americinn is $87 but not sure what is now located within walking distance for food.

In Deadwood we have only stayed at Holiday Inn Express (2 or 3 x)- currently running $104.99 (M/T/Wed). I tried AmericInn but it is evidently no longer there (I think it is Cadillac Jacks) & the new listings for CJ's don't include breakfast that I can see.

So I'm looking for any suggestions you may have experienced in both RC & Deadwood. What did you like, what didn't you like? On Disboards the Grandstay Residential Suites was suggested & it looks like I can get that for around $92 also (in RC).

Blast it that nothing in Deadwood is related to any major gaming company. We haven't gone for around 3 years so anything I had that with the casinos for offers are long gone. When we went the last time I got 2 or 3 nights for a year offered after that!

I stayed in Rapid City in the Alex Johnson hotel, and loved it. Would stay there again the next time.
In Deadwood I stayed in Lodge at Deadwood, First Gold Hotel and Best Western Hickok House and We both prefer the Lodge at Deadwood. First Gold was crappy and dirty. Rude staff, bad rooms with a really awefull smell.

I've been there severaltimes but, won't be going back again unless they change the smoking policy. I smoke and I think it sux that I can't have a smoke in a casino with adults, cocktails and skimpy outfits. Anyhow, We stay at the Super 8 in Deadwood--clean, nice staff and the lil casino does pay out quite well--good luck!

Thanks guys -that Lodge looked very nice. Was considering that too. Bad part is that last trip I had decided WHERE we were going to stay the next time we went - just for something different!!! However, now I don't remember where it was since it was about 3 years ago............

At least I know if I just give up & do the HIExp both places again they are nice.

One and only time I stayed in Deadwood, I stayed at the HI Express. Someone I knew stayed at a rental joint called Butch Cassidy Suites which worked out well.

While I was there, I taped this, you may recognize some of the participants.
Recorded upstairs at the #10 Saloon in Deadwood, SD, June 25, 2005.
