On our upcoming trip we will be looking to spend at least a half day downtown and are looking for the best spot to park. Ideally parking would be free for the duration of our time downtown but I will listen to any recommendations.

1 - best spot to park downtown for half of a day? Free would be great

2 - Best spot to park if stopping at the Plaza to eat at Hash House A Go Go for an hour or two

Being you're possibly hooked on free, do the above but don't tip.

there is free street parking in the area by the el cortez. Around stewart ave, mesquite ave and 6th or 7th st. No parking meters. Stewart ave also has free parking in the area as is Mesquite ave. There isn't much going on in the area so no security but it should be safe during the day. Looks like workers park in the area so they don't have to pay for parking.

as for pay/tip parking, I would recommend the plaza valet. You can also check with the HHAGG, they may offer some form of validation if you park at the plaza while eating there.

depending on the day of the week you park, there are a number of lots (like MSS, Cal, etc.) that only charge something like $3 to park in their lot for the day.

Park at Binion's, ask a security guard to validate your parking, free!

I've never had a problem with the parking downtown. I usually use the El Cortez, Binions or the MSS "South" Valet. Love the MSS valet never have had to wait more than 10 minutes and it's usually in the 2-5 minute range during the day, well worth a 2 dollar tip.

A couple of years ago we parked at the ElCo valet, walked into the casino as if we were gonna play there, then walked across the street to the Beauty Bar. :)

The Golden Nugget valet is conveniently located. Sometimes, it's a bit slow to retrieve your car, depending on the time of day. Avoid the busy check out time.
