Literally. Is it OK to ever have a big ego? People talk about how Wynn always overdoes things with his voice in the telephone call, on the website, on the TV, in the taxis, on the radio, now in his shows--does he ever get over himself?

But for all that he does, doesn't he deserve to have a big ego? If you had done what he has done (or something at that scale), how much would your ego grow or would it stay the same?

Yep, Wynn can walk the walk so he deserves the ego in my very humble opinion.

Confidence, awesome. Bravado? Sure. More balls than brains, good start. Ego....not a fan.

If you can back it up then then you could argue the big ego is justified. I think SW can back it up.

I find that it is the a-holes who are the ones that get ahead in life, at least financially. I'd rather be nice and poor than mean and rich. But at least financially, I do OK for myself. Not anywhere rich, but in no way poor.

It used to bug me when Muhammad Ali would go on about how he was "the greatest." But, he really was great at what he did. As people have noted, if one can walk the walk they can justify talking the talk.

I don't think ego is ever based in confidence. Ego is insecurity. Having said that, there are professions where a certain amount of BS and self promotion is needed. I don't confuse that with ego. That's my opinion anyway.

We can't forget that Steve is selling his hotel, its image, and what it has to offer. I think there is a definite difference in someone who is a sports star talking about them self vs enticing people to come spend their money at a resort.

I'm not fan of big egos either. But as others have said, Wynn has backed it up and still backs it up with results. That's much more acceptable to me than just some joe blow that thinks he is God's gift to Earth.

Your two comments I agree with.

Confidence, strong will/conviction, bravado and even being boisterous at times is fine. Most of those can be mistaken as having a big ego. Success is able to be obtained with some humility and confidence in oneself.

If you are upper management or ownership you can get people to work their asses off for you without a huge ego.

    Good thought provoking question, sco!

To me, ego is not a blessing. Confidence is. A person with confidence is sure of him/herself. A person with ego is FULL OF HIM/HERSELF.

This is something I remember from when I was in my twenties, a long time ago, but I think it may apply here. It's a philosophy that grew out of several conversations with friends. It's short and to the point.

"People who are cool don't try to be cool. They just ARE cool."

I read an article on The Motley Fool this morning that was about which LV casinos were the most profitable. According to them, the Wynn is the most profitable of all. Maybe he has a little justification in being proud of himself.

My comment is mostly toward your above statement as opposed to your question....
It is funny how just because it is Wynn that people say its his ego on how he always overdoes things with his voice in the telephone call, on the website......
If it was a nameless person who did the exact same thing they would be called obnoxious instead of having a big ego.

I've never viewed Steve Wynn as having a huge Ego. He's the real deal!
Now TRUMP on the other hand is a different matter all together.
I respect Steve but I have zero respect for TRUMP. He's a whinny Blow Hard...
Steve out classes him in every way!

A big ego is just a cover for some insecurity.
    .
Whether it is "justified" is another question.
Walking the walk + justification are two different things.
    .
I usually always get a laugh out of someone w/ a huge ego.
They're just laughable to me.......not upsetting.....I don't take them seriously.
One of my best + longest friends has a huge ego.....I've always got a laugh out of him !

I don't have time for this drivel. I need to hire someone to supervise the polishing of my trophy's.
