Just curious what experience other have had. My son met me in Vegas at Rio this weekend for a quick trip. We proceeded to play VP at a furious rate until I came down with some bug that was going around. Before I succumbed, he got his first royal of the trip. The next day after a very miserable night for me, we moved downtown where I promptly went back to bed and he went to the Boars head bar to hit Aces with a kicker and his second Royal in about 10 minutes. The next day I was finally on my feet and we headed back to the Rio but stopping at Orleans for a quick visit. Not 10 minutes into the play, I hit a royal on dollars, which is the second time I have hit a royal at orleans on a quick stop or 20 minutes or less.

I got to thinking, of the 8 or so royals I've had, all have been within 20 minutes or less of playing. The first one was at LA Bayou on the 3rd or 4th hand. So the question is.... when do you get your royals? Shortly after sitting or hours of grinding away?

I have only had 4 royals in my life. 2 in Vegas and 2 in local casinos. After gambling for 25 years or more-I think I'm due for our trip in April-please D-fitzgeralds- be good to me.

My first royal was on a simulator at home (DOH!). My first paying royal was at the Book and Bar at the Cosmo, slow playing a twenty to keep the drinks flowing while my dad played the $100.00 loss promotion.

Hit a royal on my first ever visit to Foxwoods in CT after turning 21(1994). I was at the machine for a few hours, but only had 2 coins in.

Hit a royal on a nickle machine at Newport Grand(RI) 2003 or so.

had the biggest gambling win of my life at the Taj in Atlantic City in 2004. Was getting ready to go home, and hit a $1,000 royal on a dueces wild machine.

Had a few small ones on multi hand(50 and 100) in the past few years, but not enough to win anything worthwhile.

Hoping for a good one starting Monday Morning!

First one was on the nickel progressives at Barbary Coast. Ten coins in and a little over $600 on the payout.

Second was on my last trip on a five coin nickel machine at the South Point.

Both were within 30 minutes of sitting down. The first was within 5 minutes.

I've only been playing VP for a little less than 2 years. I play mostly slots, but like to break it up with VP at times.

First royal was at Bally's in Oct, 2011 the morning I was heading to the airport. I often don't play on my last day but a friend had asked me to run a few dollars through on her husband's card so his points didn't go Poof. After I did that, I stuck a $20 in a progressive DDB quarter machine and hit nothing. I decided I had time to put in another $20 before checkout, and immediately hit a Royal. I started to panic because it was hand pay and my time was limited, but they moved pretty quickly. Haha, it was only $1001.++ so about as bad as a progressive could be! i didn't even have my card in the machine!

Second royal was a couple of weeks later at MGM Foxwoods. Tossed in a $20 on the way out and hit on about my fifth hand. That was a complete shock!

Third one was after a long drought at PHo in Oct, 2012 while I was showing a couple of friends how to play VP. Between watching them like a hawk I managed to get a few hands of my own in, and BAM, a Royal.

All 3 of mine came after very little play. I am headed back out on Sunday, and I feel like I am due for #4!

I'm thinking a test is in order on my next trip. I am normally the kind who will find a machine and settle in for the long haul. Normally at one of my favorite bars because of the commraderie with bartenders and those around you (and the quick drinks).

Still thinking this through but I think I will try standing back from the bar, picking the machine that jumps out at me, if its .25 then I'll play $40 and move to the next machine. If I hit a good hand, I'll pull the ticket and put $20 in until its gone and then move. I'll change it up a bit if I am playing $1. I will keep moving throughout maybe a 4 hour period to see what happens.

    Any thoughts?

    Two more Royal questions:

Have you hit more royals at bars or out on the floor?

Have you hit more royals at end / corners of a bank / bar or in the middle?

Majority of mine are at bars because that is where I usually play

Mine are mixed between ends and middle.

I only play at the bar so all 16 of mine have been there, mostly on the ends.
I've been on a terrible drought. I haven't hit one since 3/2010, 15 trips ago and I hope that changes next week.

Holy crap you guys hit a lot of royals! So many that you can break them down into different categories. I haven't come close to hitting any though I haven't been playing long.

Sounds like a lot of you hit them right in the beginning of your sessions. Maybe I should try doing what someone in the superstitions thread wrote about cashing out on her slot machine, then circling the chair and sitting back down to trick the machine into thinking she's a new person. I can try to just keep doing that after every few hands until security calls the mental hospital to come get me.

Only had one (Link - The Legend of Multiple Royal Flushes).

Until that point, I was a relative VP newbie and typically played quarters until this visit to Aria. Walking around, I noticed a bank of progressive $4,700 8/5 JOB (more disciplined now on game choice) on the main floor presented a decent overlay opportunity (I have later learned, it is very hard to cash in these opportunities). I almost burned through my commited $100 before hitting two quads to keep me in the game. After a total of about 1/2 hour of play, the five clubs aligned perfectly and I received a hand pay for $4,764.

I have played a lot more VP since, from quarter 1- (one time 100) line play through $1 1-5 line play, and unfortunately, the RFs have alluded me ever since.

I will continue my quest, fortified by Budweiser and Makers (or Woodford in finer establishments) on the rocks, and have committed to hopefully hitting one on my next trip in August.

I've only hit 2 in Vegas. One many, many years ago at the Mirage. I had been playing the machine for at least an hour when I hit it.

I hit my second at Bally's in 2009. I had kept trying this Pick a Pair poker machine at Paris during the trip - didn't really know what the heck I was doing. They had them at Bally's, but they were always busy. Finally on the morning I am leaving, I am walking by and a woman gets up off of one. Her husband is on the other one. I finally ask him how to play the dang thing. About 30 minutes later I hit a royal - which on those, paid 10,000 coins or $2,500. The guy next to me almost cried (because his wife had just left the one I hit it on).

Never had a paying one. After my first trip to Vegas, I decided to learn VP on my ipad. I hit one on my third hand, and didn't quite realize the magnitude of it. Since then, I've had four royals on my ipad, but zero in real life. I have had (if my count is right) 34 4-to-a-royal situations. Hope it comes soon! I usually play triple line dollars, so a dealt royal $12,000 situation would be really ideal.

Only one I have ever had(I have only been playing VP for about 2 years off and on) was the other day on a multi hand penny machine. Paid $40, so nothing big, was more happy that I finally got one really! Hoping to move up the list and hit on on nickels while in Vegas in 3 weeks, but Quarters would make me really happy! I hit that one on a 3 to royal deal, and had probably been playing for 15 minutes.

I've only gotten Royals on 100-play VP machines...other than the occasional Royal that shows up as one of the 100 hands, I was dealt a Royal on a 100-play penny machine at South Point a year or two ago. I don't recall which game I was playing (maybe DDB) but it only paid out something like $120 for the 100 Royals...but it did look nice on the machine..

I don't recall ever getting even 1 Royal on a 100-play machine when I held 4 to the Royal on the first hand..

Those odds are really bad if you were dealt the royal and it only paid $120. Were you playing all 100 hands? I got $40 for my Royal and it wasnt dealt. If it was dealt, I would have made $4000 on a penny machine, not too shabby!

He likely was playing 1 penny a hand. Fortunately I wasn't when I hit this at Flamingo on Presidents' Day 2012 at ~11pm within 30 minutes of play. I was getting killed on the trip beforehand, so I was looking to play for cheap while staring at the "Party Pit", so only 6 hands x $40 = $240. (My 2nd and biggest Royal... :()

My first royal was at Blue Chip (Michigan City, IN) in 2011? 1 line on a penny machine for $40, was playing 9-handed at the time I think. I think I had been playing for roughly at hour at that machine.

Last Royal was on a 2-cent machine at Tunica Roadhouse during last year's "Race to Rewards". I was machine hopping that night; I don't think I was on that machine for more than 30 minutes, but I had been playing that night for probably over 2 hours overall.

One of these days, I'll get a Royal when I take a stab at quarters! Hell, I'll take a nickel Royal too! :)
