I am a relative newcomer to las vegas, having made my maiden voyage last year. I kind of understand each hotels role and place on the strip, except from the trump hotel (also sls but as I understand that is just a disaater).

what is the role of the trump hotel? biding it's time until more resorts are built around it? loyal clientele that spends a lot of money? vain owner that just wants to say he has a hotel on the las vegas strip?

I have no plans to visit the place, but the place intrigues me!!!

I believe it is part of a project that fell through... there was supposed to be a casino built next to it and they ran out of money or something....

He and Wynn always played a stupid game of trying to keep each other out of Vegas/Atlantic City. At one time Trump was going to open a casino but that never materialized. After the first tower opened in 2008 he planned to build a second one but was hit with the recession (lots of Vegas projects affected by it of course). He sold a bunch of units to Hilton for one of their vacation clubs. I've not stayed there but have heard many good things about the place. Personally I like to stay in a place with a casino. Many like to get away from the casinos at night.

Trump was supposed to be condos mostly sold to owners who would most likely rent them VRBO, ala a higher end version of The Signature. The condo market crashed and they have been scrambling to sell the condos anyway they could or rent them as hotel rooms. The pit formerly known as the New Frontier was supposed to be developed as replica NYC Plaza Hotel. It was demolished before the sale had even closed and soon after the sale closed the project went bust. Trump wasn't depending on that project to promote the itself but with Wynn and Venetian there, that was supposed to be a hot area and being a little west seemed like a good idea at the time. By all accounts it is a nice place to stay but not set up for tourist traffic.

    So are the rumors true?
That the Nevada Gaming Commission wouldn't give Trump a casino license for this property of his?!?!

I stayed there for one night a few years ago. It's location isn't the best but the place itself was REALLY nice. Staff was probably the friendliest I've experienced in Vegas before or since.

He wasn't refused a license for this project - he never intended to put a casino there. As I mentioned before, he was modeling the Signature.
