What's the best room at Stratosphere?

We're arriving on Saturday night when all the strip rooms are double the usual price. We're currently booked at the Silverton which looks nice enough, but I just found that Stratosphere rooms are about the same price and much more convenient, as we want to spend Saturday evening Downtown and avoid the Saturday night strip madness.

For our date (May 11) we could get a Stratosphere Select room for $81.89 or a Strip View guestroom for $85.79--pretty much the same. The more important thing to us is a view of the Strip, but only if the room is decent, not crappy. I understand the $20 trick won't work at the Strat but we'll ask nicely for an upgrade when we get there. Any advice?

In my opinion do not stay at the strat. Just stick with your first choice.

Why? What's so bad with the Strat? Seems to fit our bill as far as price and location, bringing us closer to Downtown and knocking off one of our to-do's which is to enjoy the view from the top of the Stratosphere. Any specific reason why not?

The best room at the Stratosphere is the Valet waiting room cause if you're in there then that means you will soon be off the Strat's property and on your way to a nicer resort.

The Strat is in the ghetto part of the strip. It is in the part that is called "naked city". Just stay downtown where you can walk to all the different casinos and then just make a side trip to the Strat to go to the top of the tower.

Select rooms are newly remodeled and if you're concerned with cleanliness I would choose that one.
There's nothing wrong with the stratosphere, enjoy your stay!
