It seems there are more and more people not choosing to go to Vegas in the last while. Why is this?

Setting aside the exchange rate I was wondering what it would take for you to stop going to Vegas or if you have cut down on your vegas trips, what it would take to get back to going more often?

Perhaps more and more people are complaining on this board. But the facts certainly don't support the assertion that more and more people are choosing not to go to Vegas. They say just the opposite.

But to answer the question...there isn't a single thing that would drive me away (at least nothing that would actually happen). But at some point, if the food and booze prices continue to increase, the odds/rules/paytables continue to worsen and comps get reduced, I'm sure I'll reach a tipping point and Vegas just won't be attractive enough for me to want to spend my money and time there.

I don't think it will ever get to that point because I seem to be a bit more tolerant of the changes than most. So I figure that sometime before I reach my tipping point, the price increases will start to have diminishing returns and more value will return.

I'm not sure why you'd make that statement. More people are coming to Las Vegas post-recession than ever.

"McCarran International Airport released statistics Friday that show about 4 million people flew into and out of Las Vegas last month, a 7.2 percent increase compared to August 2014."

the carve and Bill nailed it on visitation numbers. "Purists" might see erosion in what they consider true Vegas, but this morphed and morphing Vegas is immensely popular.

As for us, for a few year we went seemingly every month, then there was a period where we didn't go for about four years, now I've been three times since last fall. For us, Vegas is not a destination spot, it is a getaway of opportunity -- friends are going so we meet them, the guys want a few days of golf. Vegas just comes together, or it doesn't; we're cool either way. But when we look to plan a getaway, Vegas is not on the list, and not because of anything that is happening up there. Vegas just isn't a "vacation" spot for us.

The only thing that keeps me from going to Vegas as much as I'd like is not having the time or extra cash to go. If I had more time and money, I'd be there much more often.

Me too. Higher airfare does not help. Hopefully, if my "redirection" ( as opposed to retirement) works well, and we have a choice to go at any time, instead of when school is out, we will be there more often!

    Death, I guess.....:poke:

But seriously, if they cut back on perks like "free" rooms, drinks, promos, etc. it's possible I won't go so often. It's probably all b.s. as far as they're concerned but it's nice to think they do those things because they appreciate your business. Without these things it's just cold business and it's not fun for me. I like business relationships.

I used to go 6 to 10 times a year, but this year I am only going around 4 or 5 times. That's because I started a new job early this year, and my vacation time dropped from 5 weeks a year to 2 weeks a year. I get every other Friday off, but I'm working many of them because I am so busy. I like to go for at least 3 nights per trip, but this year I have only stayed 2-nights twice and once at 1-night. My next trip will be three nights, and I might go in November or December.

I think the only thing that would stop me from going to Vegas would be if they made gambling illegal :faint:

My Vegas trips would likely drop off dramatically if they made sports betting legal at the local Native American casino. Or.....they stopped legal sports wagering in Vegas.

Yes visitation is up. But the numbers focus alot on general visitation and first time visitors. I don't know if the surveys really track repeat visits and from what I recall, the few that do show a decline in repeat visits. It seemed to me that they are focused on first visitors but don't seem to get that they need to get these folks to come back or at least enjoy themselves to the point they encourage others to come.

All that aside. I will be coming less. Some of the time and money I was devoting should have been spent with family. It's time to reconnect so Vegas is a lower priority for now.

Agree with Leo. It would be interesting to see if return visitation has dropped off. There hasn't been a new (from the ground up) resort opened on the Strip since Cosmo and the planned ones (Alon and Resorts World, if it's ever built) are several years away. And the low rolling blackjack players are seeing their playing conditions deteriorate. This can't be helping getting folks to return.

I've been over the Strip for a while and my stays over the past decade have centered on downtown. The rules at the levels I like to play at are good enough on Fremont. If it got to a point where the games started to be unplayable there, it'd be tough to convince myself to go.

Visitation in recent years has increased annually. People look to non-indicators to support what they want to see. Vegas always changes, it's changing again, yet it never goes away.

For crying out loud, Ken. Any writer worth his salt knows better than to let facts get in the way of a good story.:nono:

I love Vegas and have been going there for years but I admit that my trips will be fewer going forward. We've been to Vegas 3 times this year. We will go once more to attend the Great Gift Wrap up and my play(more limited than the past) will get me the 920 TC's needed to get my Diamond Aspirations 2 which I will use to get the 750 in airfare and return perhaps next May. I have no expectations or plans to return after that. Basically, I'm going back 2 more times to collect some goodies for all the donations I've made there.
The 25% exchange rate is a real issue for me and the fact that I still haven't got my IRS refund from last year really bugs me. Yesterday, I was playing STP DDB at my local Casino here in Canada and walked out up $2,000.00 and no tax... no waiting almost a year for the $600.00 in forced savings thanks to the IRS.

It would take increased hotel rates for me to not go as often. I don't go for the gambling, as a tribal casino is only 45 minutes away. The weather in Vegas makes for good pool weather. We take room liquor so casino drinks don't cost $100 each. They ain't free, I've discovered. So if hotel rates increased to comparable levels around the country, I would seek out new destinations.

I only go once a year anyway. I don't see that increasing or decreasing any time soon. I'd go more often if I had more money.

I got burned out on Vegas a few years ago after averaging 4X, 3X and 2X a year.
So I cut my trips down to 1 visit per year. But that only lasted for 2 years in a row.
Then I found myself back up to 3X a year. So Screw it... Why fight it?
I never stop traveling. I go other places too! I have several different non Vegas trips
booked all the way through to next Summer. Will be in Vegas in Nov but Dec is open.

I truly believe for every 1 person who makes the "I'm not going to Vegas again" proclaim, there are 5-10 people to take their place.
