As an average-good poker player, I want to expand my knowledge and learn another game because I am not really amused by playing poker in Vegas anymore (ppl with negative attitudes on the tables). I don't know what to learn between blackjack, craps or baccarat (I don't know baccarat at all). I love to play craps but I'm screwed everytime I try it. I think I can do well at blackjack but I don't know which strategy to choose.

I also like to play video poker and I wonder if it is worth the time to learn the game.

    Thanks for your help!

I'm a fan of craps but the table has to be just right (not empty, not too crowded).
My main play is video poker, Jacks or Better.

Craps and it's not even a debate, for me at least. Baccarat doesn't take much skill or knowledge, you could probably learn that in a few minutes. Blackjack is also fairly easy to pick up, especially if you're a poker player, which takes a lot more skill. Craps can look daunting, but once you play it becomes fun. The only real way to learn craps is by being at a table. Card games can be read about, but craps is an experience thing.

    My current favorites:

Video Poker - Spend an hour or two to learn simple strategy at wizardofodds.com. Then play and drink for free at any bar with a machine. Significantly better than waiting for cocktail waitresses.

Craps - Usually the loudest and most exciting game in the casino. It's the one where people often jump around and high five each other. Has great odds for the player. Need I say more?

Agree - craps offers a low house edge, but it's really about the atmosphere. You will never forget the first time a shooter gets really hot and doubles your money for you!

I vote for craps. It is definately the most fun game when the table is hot. Most dealers are only too happy to help a newbie. As a player, I don't have a problem with a newbie......as long as they don't disrupt the flow of the game AND they don't keep asking the same questions over and over and over. Everyone has to learn sometime. A lot of casinos have gaming lesson....craps, baccarat etc. They also usually give out some table vouchers.

I think blackjack is the best bet in the casino. If you find the right game (become a rules snob) it can be a better bet than craps. It also requires some skill and can be a very social game.

I used to play poker exclusively...now I play Ultimate Texas Hold'em, almost exclusively. It is a negative EV game, but it is damn fun! If you are tired and bored sitting at a poker table full of cry babies, you will likely enjoy UTH. I would equate the game strategy very similar to being short-stacked in a tournament, heads-up.

    Craps!

I probably play 85% craps, 10% blackjack and 5% roulette.

When a dice table is hot there is no better place to be.

Craps no question, every toss of the dice is a winner you just need to bet that way.

I vote for Craps too. The 6-5 payoff for BJ at most Vegas casinos sucks and really reduces your chances of winning even with perfect play (not counting).
Craps strategies can be simple or complex. It just depends on what you desire. I suggest visiting a forum like the http://www.crapsforum.com/ for newbies and to refresh your knowledge.

    Craps.
You can watch all day and probably won't find two people playing it the same way.
Each person customizes it to be their own type of game.
The game of Craps can be as simple or complex as you want.

I'll have to agree with the majority, Craps is awesome...I usually play VP in the morning when the craps tables are quiet and then when the night comes, craps is the way to go for me!

I lost my love for poker in Vegas several years ago. It just got too tedious, mainly because there were fewer fish in the pond and more rocks on the bottom.

Blackjack, with the right rules, is the best paying table game available. There is no debate. It is mathematical. But a lot of blackjack tables aren't any fun. You have to be selective. Anybody who has succeeded at poker can probably learn blackjack without much trouble, but there is some memorization. It will take you maybe fifty to a hundred hours to master; more if you count. Even though the betting in craps becomes complicated, you can learn what you need to know for craps in five minutes. All of the more complicated wagers in craps are strictly for suckers.

The people skills you need to play a good game of poker won't get used in blackjack or craps. Your compensation comes from the social aspect of playing against the house. Craps offers more of this than blackjack. This is especially true when you're at a table with some dumbass who wants to criticize your play because he thinks you took the dealer's bust card.

How can blackjack players can be rude? You don't play against them! When I played, I saw some very drunk people (almost dead) on the table but I never saw rude people yet.

I started as a poker player too. I'm actually starting to play tournaments again after a long hiatus.

First table game I picked up was blackjack, as it was readily available outside the room. It plays quick, has good rules, and you can win or lose a lot of money relatively quickly. I'd highly recommend getting the basic strategy down from wizard of odds. Oftentimes you'll get a really fun table full of fun loving degenerates. Sometimes you'll get real zombies that aren't enjoyable to be around. In my experience, there are a few rude jerks who play BJ, primarily the kind who want to tell you how to incorrectly play your hand. If you encounter one, just pick up and move to one of the other tables.

Since then, I took up Pai Gow poker. It is much slower pace and has an minor element of skill. I like it because it is relaxing, and you can talk around the table on how to set your hands. It's a great game to play with friends you want to talk to. It does have a bigger house edge than BJ or craps though.

Most recently I picked up craps. If you just play passline/come + odds it has an edge almost as good as good rules blackjack, almost even if they offer 10x odds. It is a really good social game, as most people play together. When someone gets on a heater it is very enjoyable and social. When a bad streak hits, everyone tends to lose at once and the table will clear out. To learn, the best way is to find a table with just a few players in the middle of the day. The dealers will be happy to teach you.

If you take hits or stay when other people think you should be playing the opposite way some will have choice words. But that is few and far between in my experience.

And if people say stuff to me then I will give it back to them and not let it bother me. Most of the time people who bitch and moan at a blackjack table are miserable people anyways.
