The Lounge, Restaurant and rides on top are great.

The casino isn't horrible and there's a mysterious 'thai food' place just outside that I'm dying to be hammered enough to set foot into some day.

However, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would 'choose' to actually stay there. The Stratosphere and Circus Circus just seem like desperate alternatives when there's so many other places on The Strip and Downtown to stay.

There just isn't anything there aside from the property.

Stay almost anywhere else and go to happy hour at Top of the World Lounge(2 for 1 cocktails)
    Restaurant is very good too.

I don't want to trash Stratosphere because the hotel casino itself is fine but at the end of the day it is hopelessly disadvantaged in its current location.

If it was about the money then Downtown is a far superior choice.

If it was about location on the strip then literally anywhere on the strip is a better choice.

The only thing I can add is that if your friend ,OP, really wants to stay at The STRAT is that the deuce bus has a stop at the Strat and it will take as far south on the strip as MB. You can also catch the deuce to go downtown. But as many others have said your really isolated in an area that is sketchy during daylight and it gets worse at night into the early hours of morning.

The Deuce runs all the time and usually there are about 3 pickups per hour. If you guys aren't bus people I'd bit the bullet and stay at CC, if cost is still an issue. You'll still have some walking to do but in a better area. The deuce picks up at CC also.

Good luck, hope it works out. Let us know how it goes. :peace::beer:

Glad I read this as I had considered staying here, solely based on the theme. I think we'll still come for a visit during the day for lunch or so and a ride to the top.

I've visited the Strat several times over the past 31 years, even when it was the old Vegas World. (Who remembers that?) And while I've occasionally received some pretty good-sounding offers, I never considered staying there for the reasons already mentioned; namely its location, and join the chorus in recommending staying somewhere else.

The last time I was there was for a wine tasting in the Romance Lounge, since renamed the 107 Lounge. That's was quite some time ago; and it's hard to beat the view, but you don't have to stay there to enjoy it.

Very well. Too well! We were suckered in on one of their come-on get-you-in-the-door ripoffs waaaaayyyyy back in the 1980s. It was about the only free thing I ever remember that was overpriced!

I like it much better as the Stratosphere.

To add insult to injury, a former boss of mine, the only boss I've ever had who I consider to be a bona fide jerk, LOVED the place and was always snarking at me for staying at the Stardust, which he had never visited.

I stay there all the time.....for years.
But I've been everywhere in Vegas --
so...location....doesn't matter to me......it does to alot of people.
Yes, there are street people walking around that area.......
and it's as weird as those Strip walkover bridges at 3 am !
Two pools....decent casino payscales...their buffet has really improved....decent room prices.
You won't find upscale or snooty......just budget vacationers who like to party.
Alot of foreign travelers at times.

Do you have to pay the exorbitant elevator fee to get up there?

No fee to get to the 107 lounge. The odd thing about the 2:1 Happy Hour drink special is that the bartender makes both drinks at once. She held the ice on #2 until I finished my first. But the view at sunset was amazing and seeing the lights come on was memorable.

I played a little video poker at the bar in the center of the main floor and received some offers for a free night with a discounted paid night.

I had a bartender that made us buy identical drinks for the 2 for 1. Couldn't mix and match despite being the same price. Odd place.

I agree it is a weird type of happy hour.Last time there we had a group of 8 and the bartender told us he would get all our first round drinks at the 2/1 price even though we arrived about 5 min before it ended.
A couple friends were like "what kind of pinot noir do you have"?
    Shut up and order!!
If you wanted Kettel and club you got two right then.

The Strat is what it is. A low end casino near the end of the Vegas strip. If you are saving money (and have car) it s doable! Crowd's demographics is similar to any city in my great state of New York so I'm good with that. Ditto for the surrounding area although I would not suggest women walk alone at night on the street! I have stayed there once on a buy 1 night get 1 for $20.00 and put my daughter and her friend (October of 2015), and a friend of mine there also on a 2 night comp (March of 2015), over the past 3 years! FWIW 2 hrs of play, 3 years ago, have gotten me no less than buy 1 night for 20 and get 1 night free or 2 nights free, since then.

Free access to the tower when there and they have a decent all night snack area that includes a McDonalds! Each stay we, or my guest, were given a "select" room. A nice mixture of burgundy and white. The casino is the darkest of any casino that I've ever been in and the full pay VP has a note on it that you don't acquire any points on your Ace Play card! Crapless craps is also there for those who dabble in that variation of craps!

I didn't read all the posts so not sure if this was mentioned; there are really no good restaurants or bars to speak of at Stratosphere. I stopped by there for a visit last year and we we're just wanting to have lunch at a basic sports bar/restaurant. We asked around and walked about the entire place then left. Didn't care for the atmosphere and parking was a nightmare. A good hour and a half we wasted that day :(.

Never stayed there but always popped in. Looks nice enough just a bit isolated but hop on a bus and can be most places in 20 mins. Top of the World restaurant is lovely with outstanding views. Always enjoyed the casino there and a very relaxed atmosphere.

You will have a great time regardless, enjoy.
