Every time we go to Vegas I see these circles out the window. I have never seen them anywhere else. My camera says that we are over Otis, CO. Do they plant their crops in perfect circles?

they're crops watered by a radius arm that rotates from a center point like the old Compass drawing pencils do/did
more water efficient than a square or rectangle

One of my clients is a major manufacturer of center pivot irrigation devices. They are very common in the American midwest on farms.

That makes perfect sense now that you said it. All our crops are done in rectangles so I never gave a thought to irrigation circles.

Good to know. I thought they were to mark the spots where Ancient Aliens were going to build swimming pools.

pivots or "circles" they are usually a quarter mile (actually 1/8th mile long) for a quarter section or a mile (actually a half mile long) for a full section, but they can be any size depending on the number of spans

some have an "end gun" like this one that gets some of the corner.....some actually have a corner unit that kicks out and gets the corner, but those can be problematic

    these are the spans
