I love gambling in Las Vegas. I can gamble where I want to gamble, when I want to gamble and how much I want to gamble. That's why I love it!!!

Having said all that, I find that the restaurant reviews are deceiving. They get much more hype than what they are worth.

There is a pattern to the ones that we have frequented. They all pretty much have, the same menu and a small variance on price.

The prices are all inflated but lack the quality that you would expect for such "higher end" restaurants.

The buffets are no different. Not that I am a buffet type person but would you pay $40+/pp where you live?

Those are just my examples. What do you find overrated or exaggerated when it comes to Vegas?

Spending >$2,500 for a cabana at a popular DayClub is overrated to me. We do it anyway, because 2 weeks out it sounds like an amazing plan. But then we find ourselves so tired and hungover, we are almost forcing our way thru it. And its a lot of money for a not-sure-thing fun time.

The whole table/bottle service sounds like a ripoff to me. 500, 1000 or even more for 1 or 2 bottles of vodka and a seat? I do not understand why anybody would spend so much. That's why i did not use this service yet and probably wont in the future.

Coming from europe makes it even worse. The "party scene/nightclub scene" is so different in europe compared to the States...

i think leaving Vegas is extremely overrated and way too many people do it :)

Ok seriously, I think the whole nightclub scene in Vegas is overrated. Drink prices are super inflated and if you don't spend the big bucks for bottle service and a table, you may not even be able to sit down to rest your feet which is what most of us need after a day in Vegas.

Ditto that, plenty of time to catch a nap when you get home or when you're pushing daisies.

I think the most overrated thing in LV is the reputation as "Sin City". There is def a lot of Sin to be found if you look, but the vast majority of vacationers just are there for a good time and while we often over indulge we don't get involved in any nefarious activities as one may have expected.

I'll cast my vote with those saying the club scene is overrated. Yet, I recognize many of the high-end clubs are very successful regardless of what I think.

I had to think about this question for a bit.
    *
    My answer came up.......The Bellagio.

    I stayed there w/ my wife - I think twice ?
    I guess, I expected too much ?
Maybe "the hype" is overrated ?

The Bellagio Fountains and Bellagio Conservatory are way overrated.

The Fremont Street canopy light show. Waaay overrated.

AFAIK, any buffet is as big a gamble as rolling the dice. All of them are overrated.

The celebrity chef restaurant. Totally overrated. I saw the complete lie on "Eating The Street" as concerns BLT Burger. That chef had probably never set foot in that restaurant before the shooting of the show and the burger he concocted was absolutely nothing like the burger that is served to the public.

"Sin City", snicker. The entire Strip is slowly but surely becoming one gigantic mall.

I think sitting in a sportsbook is overrated. I love to bet on games as much as anyone, but I hate sitting in a sportsbook for any length of time. I feel like I am just wasting time. With TV's just about everywhere you turn on the strip, I'd rather be on the go and keep track while multitasking. That's just me though.

Two things spring to mind: Caesars Palace and the headliner shows

CP has a long standing reputation that simply doesn't jive with the reality of the place. As for the headliner shows, does Vegas currently have any headliners in their prime? Seems like most headline performers come to vegas for a residency after their prime as a cash grab

The Triple George. Oh, and any bar or restaurant that serves drinks in a canning jar.

The cabanas, if I wanted to sit by a pool I wouldn't be in Vegas.
The sportsbook for the same reason. I can watch lots of TVs at home.
The clubs, can also do those at home.

    I find the following overrated:

    1. Coupon Books. I don't want to spend my days jump around place to place and eating at places that I don't want to eat to justify the cost of one of the coupon books. It would make me miserable.
    2. Being super thrifty in Vegas. See above. I do not to be a slave to finding the best bargain on food, alcohol etc. to save a few dollars.
    3. The shows. Washed up acts.
    4. Hash Hash A Go Go and other similar places.

Seems to a lot of overlap between what people consider overrated and what people don't like. I'm not a club person but I don't think they're overrated. They're just not for me. Taking value out of the equation; I'd get a cabana everyday in Vegas at a cool pool. That's not overrated. Might be outside my budget but it's a great time. People love that conservatory at Bellagio. I couldn't care less about it but I do like the Bellagio Fountains. We see a lot of shows in Vegas. Love almost all of them.

Based on what I see recommended on the internet for people to do in Vegas, Downtown and the Conservatory are the most overrated. To me. Other people love them. Oh, and a rental car. Rental car is fine but it's not a requirement.
