Not sure if I read this before but the las vegas newsletter (Bill Mandel) that I got today mentioned that the Western was sold to Zappos. Any word on what Hsieh plans to do with the Western? He seems to be closing the casinos (like the spike) so I'm not to sure he will reopen the place as a casino.

If this was mentioned and discussed before, sorry, I didn't see it when I searched.

I can't recall either if it was previously discussed, but the Downtown Project bought the Western back in March. At that point it'd been closed for more than a year, and I'd be pretty surprised if it reopens as a casino (or, honestly, if it reopens at all, as opposed to being razed and redeveloped).

Yeah, its pretty much going to be converted to housing for the Zappos workers or ripped down and redeveloped in to housing for the workers.

thanks tatt for the search. I tried to use the search feature on "western" and I got pages and pages of stuff but I didn't try to go through them to find the info.

too bad, I was hoping that the western could be reopened as a casino (after rebuilding the area) to try to revitalize the area on east fremont with places other than kiddie clubs. with the spike casino probably closed too there are a few less places to gamble downtown. (minus 2 - spike and western, add 1 hopefully - downtown grand with lvc and binions closing their hotel rooms). I hope that there is more room for new casinos downtown when the economy improves more.
