In the first year Vegas was allowed to take odds on Superbowl MVP, they take a bath with Von Miller winning at 60-1.

Not sure how much of a bath. If there was much betting at all on him he sure wouldn't have been at 60-1 or anything close to it.

Just a guess, but I doubt they took a bath on it. At MGM, Newton was -140 at kickoff. That means there was a ton of action on him. Others too

I wish I knew about that line before the game.

Jay Rood, vice president of race and sports for MGM-Mirage, also found the MVP proposition a big defeat. This was the first year books could take bets on the MVP prop, and having it go to a defensive player at long odds was a tough pill to swallow.

“We got dinged up on the MVP prop,” Rood said. “We finally get the opportunity to book that, and of course, the best defensive player on the field wins it. We opened Miller 60/1 and closed 15/1. He by far had the most tickets of anyone.”

The bookies in the UK love to moan about them getting hit for chunks all the time when the faves all win on Saturdays etc.

Find it hard to believe they got rinsed for much on that, whatever they say.

    Cry me a river :rolleyes2:

My guess is that they had to clean up on the SB as a whole. Almost all the action was on Carolina. The MVP action would be chump change compared to what that brought in.

From My basic knowledge of gambling don't the casinos adjust the odds to make sure the money is spread out as even as possible so in theory the amount of money bet on Von Miller would be equal to the amount of money on the field. I acknowledge that doing this with an MVP bet is harder than trying to get an even split of bets on a game. I would believe that the hit is not as bad as suggested.

It doesn't really work that way with prop bets. Risk is built into the odds such that they shouldn't be too exposed on any given prop bet and they'll adjust the odds as needed to limit their exposure.

But, sometimes a flood of money comes in, they take the bets, and just get beaten. That's gambling. They'll make it up with other money on other props though.

The books can work that way but they often don't. The books don't mind risking a lot of their own money when they think the line is correct and the public has it wrong. The books made a ton of money on the Broncos this year; both in the SuperBowl and the conference game where about 80% of the money bet against the Broncos. Even with 85% of the money bet on the Broncos in the SuperBowl a week ahead of the game, they didn't change the spread much.

Bookies love to let us know how bad it is, on the odd occasion they get a hammering.

Most of the time, their silence tells us all we need to know, lol.

Wow, that means there must have been serious late action on Miller. I know mid-week he was still listed at 50 to 1 and Saturday morning I asked the Aria book manager the odds on Miller and he told me it was still 30 to 1 at that point (for the interested, Talib was still 50 to 1 Saturday morning). To move it to 15 to 1 must have taken a lot of action in the final day and a half

Yeah buddy that bet along with a prop I made on Cam getting sacked 4 times in the first half made me a pretty penny, but I only got 50-1 on Von.

He went from opening at 60-1 down to 15-1 by kick off.. I am guessing they paid out a lot of money on that one.

Was that a prop for the first half only or just the over/under sacks prop?
