Playing in my first Video Poker tournament next month at PH. Has anyone played in one before? Just wondered if there are any resources to research strategy. Also wondered about the format - one big session, or several rounds.

    Thanks.

I've played in a number of them at several casinos. I think all of them were two sessions. Sometimes same day, others two days and maybe an awards dinner for prizes, etc.

The ones I played in started you out with 2,000 credits and also a time limit. It's been a couple of years, but I think 20 mins. I'm not used to playing that fast and on a couple of them I still had credits left when time ran out. Play fast! I never cashed. I've won some in mindless slot tournaments, but never VP.
    Good luck!

I haven't got around to the math yet, but I was informed of the prize pool of this tourney and I was going to compare playing "straight up" vs. a go for royals only strategy. But laziness has got the best of me so far, meh.

Played one at Rio during thanksgiving week. DDB was the game with a round of 10 minutes. Top two made it to the finals later that day. No credits were on the machine just hit deal and play as fast as you can. First place in my session was someone who got a royal. Second was someone who got four aces with kicker.

Didn't watch the other rounds but it wouldn't surprise me if there is someone who gets a royal every round.

Yeah, if there were 50+ units per round, I would think a modified Royal strategy would be in order for this setup. Mostly go for Royals, unless you have pair of Aces or better.

I don't think the PH tournament is the same way though. 250 people get paid from what I have been told.
