I remember reading Bond @ Cosmo has the option for BJ at their VP bartops and will comp drinks playing $1 a hand. Does Book and Stage or any of the other popular VP bars on the strip or downtown have BJ on their machines? Sometimes friends dont have any interest in learning VP strategy and having BJ available is nice even though the HA on most is terrible.

Book and Stage as well as the Queue Bar (also inside Cosmo) has the same bartops that Bond does. I am pretty sure bartops at the Bellagio has video BJ as well. It's actually fairly common to find video BJ on the same slot as the VP.

I know it isn't on the strip but Gold Coast had the absolute best bartop video BJ rules over everybody else. They allowed you to double down and split hands where other video BJ slots wouldn't. And you can do it at the 25 cent level while getting comped drinks!

Thanks for the info. I always play live BJ, but occasionally play a little bar top VP just to take a break from the tables. I never even thought about playing BJ on the machines, as the rules I've always seen were ridiculously abysmal. I wonder if the bar top BJ rules at the Orleans are the same as GC's, and will be sure to check at both places next week.

    Hey Now!

I've never even noticed the BJ at any of the Orleans Bars. I just play VP.The only one I've never played at is the bar out in the front of the casino. Turtleman, be sure to tell Hank that Sweet Ti and I are coming in for the holidaze! Maybe you can talk Vern into staying around a few extra days on y'all's next visit....

flysrb: I never noticed BJ at the Orleans' bar tops either; but even if I had seen it as a selection, I doubt I would have looked at it. I'm usually at the bar to get away from BJ, but like the OP mentioned, it might be an easy way to get free drinks without risking as much on the DDB I usually play. Then again, by the time I need to escape from the tables, I hardly need another "free" drink! I tend to favor the Mardi Gras Bar, but have played and drank at all of them. Thanks for reminding me about Hank; I printed out this thread in case I forget. He's at that bar, isn't he?

We still haven't booked December's tip, and could end up waiting until we get back from this one. Heck, Ms. Gecko is still talking about going for Turkey Day, but I'm holding off until I see how we do. We could be there in Dec. when you are, possibly at the Orleans, and will let you know when we figure it out. I'm sure Vern would like to see Stretch again.

It sounds like we have confirmation of bartop BJ at all of thr bartops art Cosmo, Bellagio bartops (Baccarat Bar?), and BJ with good rules at Gold Coast.

Anybody know about places like Heart Bar @ PH, Bugsys Bar, Center Bar NYNY, Boars Head @ MSS, Long Bar @ the D? It seems like there is hardly any info on this, Ive done a lot of digging with no results.

Not that I've done a big survey, but I've never seen bartop BJ with 'good rules'. Blackjacks always seem to pay 1:1 (or they'll show it as "2 for 1", which is the same thing). It's very easy to find the game, however, on the multi-game machines that predominate at most bartops.

Maybe "better than most" is a better term. Playing bartop BJ is always going to be a worse play HA wise when compared to most all VP paytables, but in order to take advantage of that lower house edge you are going to have to play long enough to kill the volatility. Having the option for BJ is nice when you are with friends who dont play VP or you just want to play for a short time. Its easy to go on a cold streak and drop a 20 playing .25 VP (5 coin) but youd have a hard time losing 20 playing $1 BJ, even with the absolute worst rules.

    Wanna bet on that?

I have the empty pockets to show you!

As do I. If you sit and play a hundred hands, you arent doing yourself any favors playing crappy rules BJ. Enough of the house advantage talk lol, everyone agrees that you have far worse odds playing bartop BJ than even the worst VP paytables, but thats not the purpose of this discussion.

Anyone ever run into problems being comped drinks at the $1 BJ level?

Somehow it's pretty quick and easy to lose $2000 playing $100 BJ, even with the absolute best rules....

    Thats volatility for ya...

I have yet to see any reports of bartop BJ at CET properties or downtown.

Never, definitely not at Cosmo that's for sure. You can ask for whatever you want and pretty much get it after the first hand. I have even slow-played video BJ at Bond and rang up about 6 cocktails (@ $10 to 15 a pop!) all comped. I was tipping a few bucks a drink of course. Played that way for two hours and didn't owe a dime when it was all over.

Add Ellis Island to the bartop video BJ list. The rules aren't that great BUT the bartenders keep the craft brews coming quickly. Can't remember what the minimum level of play was. 25 cents maybe?

Thanks for the info! Totally forgot about the bartops at EI. Speaking of craft beers, anyone have any info on the International Beer Bar at GN downtown?

I know that the International Beer Bar at GN has bar top gaming. I can't tell you what kind of games they offer but they are there at the bar. So getting some comped brews should not be a problem.

Check out the pic HERE to get an idea.

If you go HERE you can see that most of the bars in GN have bartop gaming.

Quad has typical crap rules. Even money BJ, no double down. Dealer may stand on all 6 card hands or some other worthless rule that changes very little. I typically play 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus at Quad instead, but I have mixed min bets and max bets and haven't been asked to up the bet. But I tend to tip my first drink $2 too, so that might be part of it. Also the house edge on blackjack is probably close to min betting video poker there (or max betting their worst games).

Yeah, you ain't gonna get rich playing video BJ but it is a nice alternative to VP if you are looking to switch things up a bit.

Here is a hint: When you are looking at the video BJ screen hit the "help" button. Or the button that explains the game in further detail. On the Game King models it will tell you exactly what the rules are (splits, double downs, what the dealer stands or hits on, etc). It will also tell you how many decks are in play. So if you know basic strategy you can use that to your advantage. Just adjust the strategy for however many decks you are playing with and at what point the dealer hits or stands.
