Going to Vegas in Oct. for 10 days then Arizona for 2 more to attend nephew's wedding. We have 4 days after that we can use and are debating going back to Vegas (comped rooms), going to Lake Tahoe (never been there and comped rooms) or heading back home to save vac. time (last choice as I get ill flying and we are so close to the other choices). Has anyone been to Tahoe, stayed @ Harrah's there and if so activities in the area? Thanks all.

Tahoe is still 8 hours away. I only go during the winter when I can snow board, but I have heard really good things about the summer time weather. I can't go anywhere but Vegas in the summer, love the heat.

    tahoe in october

Personally I think everyone should see Tahoe at least once. It is a beautiful place. October is an inbetween month though. The lake will be too cold for swimming, and probably be too cold for sun bathing as well. You can drive around the entire lake in an afternoon and see beautiful scenery. Unfortunately since the Indian casinos have opened near Sacramento the clubs (Harrahs and Harvey's) are not what they were. I actually like Harvey's better because it is Lakeside and you can get rooms with great views. Their is shopping nearby and you can take a tram up the hill and have a meal. I love Tahoe mid summer because it offers relief from the heat of the valley, is beautiful and there is gambling. October would not be a month I would choose to go there.

As a Tahoe resident, I must speak on behalf of "The Lake" and agree with all Carole stated above. Harvey's would be my recommendation as well. October's a beautiful time of year up here, the summer crowd has returned home and the skiers most likely will have yet to arrive.

I belong to an association of state representatives and we have our annual meetings across the country. I've seen some beautiful places, but was so proud a few years back to host my group here at Lake Tahoe. The comments I overheard and that were made directly to me reminded me that Lake Tahoe is truly a world-class destination.
