I haven't been to Vegas since 2010, but I'm heading to down next weekend. My girlfriend and I enjoy visiting breweries and we're fans of craft beer. New breweries are popping up at a rapid rate in our neck of the woods (Cincinnati), so we're kind of spoiled by this craft beer boom.

How's the brewery scene in Vegas? I'm aware of the old standbys such as Main Street Station or Monte Carlo, but what's new and what's a must-visit?

Are there any bars or restaurants on The Strip with large or unique craft beer selections?

Thanks in advance for any insight, and cheers to all the other craft beer junkies.

Lots of places have been carrying more Nevada breweries lately as well as more craft beer in general. I've noticed good local and world selections at Tom's Urban at NYNY, Yardbird at Venetian, TAG Bar at Linq, and Todd English PUB at Crystals. There are also Sin City Brewing Co. bars in the Miracle Mile shops, the Grand Canal Shoppes, and in the plaza across from Cosmopolitan.

Breweries in Vegas there are some...Joseph James, Sin City, Tenaya Creek to name a few. If you would like a tour of Joseph James, you're in luck! They offer them on the 3rd Saturday of every month at 1pm. (Need to RSVP; $7 per person)

    http://www.jjbrewing.com/brewery-tours/

As far as Joseph James, I really like their Hop Box Imperial IPA (9% ABV) and their Citra Rye Pale Ale (5.4% ABV). As for the latter beer, you can get that "comped" at TAG Lounge and Bar at the Linq Hotel/Casino (former Imperial Palace). This is a must do for any craft beer lover, well over 200 beers are "compable" if you are willing to play at the bar, or some of their e-table games near the bar.

Here is a dated menu of the TAG Lounge (courtesy of Rubos). As of February, it's mostly the same, but better organized by style. I'm going to try to take pics of the new menu later this month.

Some other locations on the strip with good selection have also been mentioned by Sab and sigsev. Also I would think about checking out Yard House in the Linq Promenade near the High Roller. Visit Yard House's website for menu.

If you have a car, also the M Resort has 96 beers on tap that are also compable when playing.

I hope to have my ass planted at TAG late on Tuesday April 21st myself!

If you venture downtown, the 777 brewpub inside Main Street Station and Chicago Brewing Co inside 4 Queens. They don't brew it onsite at 4Q, but the brewery is on Ft Apache Rd in Summerlin.

They have also opened a new place on Fremont named Banger Brewing. I haven't tried it yet, but it is on my list. They do tours also.

Plaza has an outdoor beer garden but I don't know what they serve there, since they never seem to be open.

I used to go to Holy Cow when it was the only one in town, it was ahead of it's time, opening in 1993. I'm glad to see craft beers all over the place now.

That brings back memories. Stay at the Stardust and walk over to Holy Cow on Sahara. Loved those sliders!
Living in Vegas, the Big Dog (same owner) on Rancho became one of our favorite stops. Totally a Wisconsin bar feel to it. WI, Badgers, Packers memorabilia everywhere in the place.

We haven't been to Big Dog since 2010, but I know the original owner died and family members took over. He was originally from WI.

The Yardhouse in the Link has a good selection of craft beers. Went there on the first day of the 2014 NFL season and had a blast. The food and service was also good.

Definitely check out Banger Brewing, Yardhouse, and the Tag Lounge.

I've grown very bored of MSS and Chicago Brewing Co beers. There are so many better beers available out there now.

Several good places have been recommended that offer national and international craft brews. One not mentioned yet is Ellis Island, just east of Bally's on Flamingo and Koval. Their Weiss offering is one of my favorites, they serve it tall, with orange, for $1.50. Not a beer, but if you are in Vegas around Christmas, make sure to order some of their famous Egg Nog, which is incredible - the best I ever had. Their amber beer is OK, but I usually stick with the Weiss.

I like trying to drink local, and while the beers may not be as unique as a Trappist Quad, I still enjoy them. I want to check out Banger Brewery next trip, and well check out Aces and Ales when I'm at Sam's Town.

The booze district is worth a visit. I'm a big fan of CraftHaus. It's a haul from the strip, though. You can go to Pizza Rock downtown or GVR. They carry all the local brews. If you go downtown, you can also stop at Banger, and I'd suggest Atomic Liquor too - they always have a good draft selection.

Aria has a craft beer brewed just for them, neat concept - I enjoy it.

Just noticed your countdown and tag line. I'll also be in that 4Q slot tourney on Sat & Sun. Not staying there, just double booked and I will be enjoying some of that Chi Brewing beer you are bored with. :peace:

Haha, well I didn't mean that they were bad. I just like the variety of new and different ones. We were in San Diego last week and went to 4 breweries of the 85 that are there. We didn't even make a dent there. :) You should really try Banger Brewing this trip. They have some good ones and often have new, seasonal beers that rotate. I just looked it up and they have a happy hour now. http://bangerbrewing.com/uncategorized/happy-hour-mon-fri-2/

We aren't staying at 4Q either, also double booked. I'm sure we'll see you around. I would rather play early in the tourney rather than late, but I don't bother trying for early anymore. All the walkers and canes are at the elevator before signup time even starts. LOL

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. The selection at TAG Lounge is particularly good. It's definitely on the list.

I made it back from Vegas and did have a chance to drink a little craft beer while in town.

I would highly recommend Banger Brewing downtown. It's just a block away from the canopy on Fremont. We were there early in the afternoon and the place wasn't crowded. I enjoyed a flight of four beers, plus one full pour. Every beer I tasted was great, but there are two highlights: Morning Joe, a coffee Kolsch with a thin body, but tons of coffee and caramel flavors; and El Heffe, a Jalapeno Hefeweizen with fresh jalapeno flavors and nice spice.

We also enjoyed a beer at TAG Lounge. The selection is great. We only stayed for one, but I could have spent a lot of time here.

My favorite beer of the whole trip, though, was found at Jaleo in the Cosmopolitan. Jose Andres has teamed up with Deschutes on Zarabanda, a spicy saison with pink peppercorn, sumac, and dried lime. A great beer, and reasonable (for Vegas) at $18 for a 22-ounce bottle.

We also stopped by Sin City Brewing, but unfortunately, I didn't care for any of their beers. Their standard IPA was okay, but not worth a special trip. The other five beers I sampled were not the least bit memorable.

    Cheers!

I know this doesn't help you out much, but for others that are interested in craft beer and will be in town over Memorial Day weekend, Banger Brewery is having a beer festival at Neonopolis with all of the local breweries.

I'll be hitting this up, as there are a few on the list I haven't tried.

If you're making a trip to the Hover Dam, take a detour to Boulder Dam Brewing Co.

Our Saturday night late dinner may involve a quick trip to Chicago Brewing Co, so I'm looking forward to trying 1 (or 3) of their beers. Seems like there's a lot of even better options out there though!
