    My Trip Report

I had been waiting for this trip for many months. It had been since last November and that is too long for me to go without being in Vegas! Sure, we have our locals and I'd given them a bit of money in between, but nothing compares to VEGAS!

This trip was me and my friend S, who is also a hairstylist and we were going to be attending a hair show at the Las Vegas convention center Saturday and Sunday. We decided we’d go in late Wednesday night so we’d have a few nights of pure fun before work. Also, one of my friends, M, who I used to work with in Arizona was meeting us for the show and staying with us on Saturday. I got her a comped room at TI for Sunday and Monday nights.
Wednesday started out rough because I woke up with a bad headache and I had to work half a day. The headache got worse and I was pretty loopy until we got to the airport and ate. Then it started to go away, and by the time we boarded it was pretty much gone! The flight seemed long and we had a stop in El Paso. Finally, at around 9:30 pm we landed and found no taxi line and off we went to Bally’s where I had 5 nights comped.

The place was already hopping from all the people in town for Electric Daisy Carnival. EDC is basically a rave for people much younger than me. They dressed really weird and acted like fools, but other than that they didn’t bother me like I thought they would. You see, I was pretty stressed out knowing that all those people would be there because over 300,000 attended last year. Their concert lasted from dusk ‘til dawn every day, so when I was in the casino they were either sleeping or gone I guess. It also didn’t have an impact on restaurant lines either that I saw.

I told the man at the front desk when checking in that we’d have another person in our room for one night and asked if he could send a roll away bed now because I was afraid they’d run out with all the EDC people coming in. He graciously accommodated me and within 5 minutes of being in the room the roll away was in place.

After all that it was time to get down to business! I had $100 in free play with my offer, so I got that at the cashier’s cage. S and I played around on different slots and were just breaking even when I spotted WWIII. I had never played it before, but hear it talked about often. I tried it and before long I was cashing out $150! I spent the rest of my free play on VP, but no wins to speak of. When we went to the room at about 5am I was only down around $100 of my own money, so that’s a win right there!

    Thursday 6/20
I woke up around 7:30am and started getting ready. I can’t sleep in Vegas, but I was going to let S sleep in for a while. We wanted to go eat at Wicked Spoon for breakfast. As I was almost finished getting ready, she woke up and I told her to call when she was ready. I went down to play and get a hot chocolate. No great winnings from this morning, so we walked to Cosmo and there was no line for the buffet at around 10:30. S got the bottomless mimosas and got her moneys worth out of that. We decided that she should do the lose $100 promotion and since she wasn’t keen on losing that much, we were going to each lose $50 and split the winnings on the $100 they load on the card. Well, she lost hers and I went to a quick hits platinum and won $300. She went to play blackjack and I ended up losing all I’d won and then some.

S wanted to stay at Cosmo, but I’d had enough so I walked back to Paris. This was going to be my day that I tried to make 1000 tier credits to get the 1000 bonus reward credits. I knew if I could do that, then I had a chance to make platinum again this year. I played DDB VP. It was around 3pm and I hit 4 aces w/kicker for $500! This was very good, now I had plenty of money to play with to try to get my bonus credits! I bumped my play from $.25 to $.50, which I hardly ever do. I played at that level until I got to about 800 tier credits and I stayed even while doing it!

Now it was time to get ready for the evening. Tonight was my meet with Clemi at 11, but first we needed to use our groupon at the Paris buffet. I got ready and went to play VP while S was getting ready. We decided we’d meet up by the buffet at 8:45. I was on a VP machine at Ballys that was absolutely on FIRE! I put in a $10 tito I had in my purse and hit every 4oak that wasn’t a premium. I mean every 5 minutes it would hit one! Cashed out of this machine at $250.

The Paris buffet wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. Glad I didn’t pay full price. Once again, S took advantage of the all you can drink feature that came with the groupon.

After dinner, we decided to play close to where the meet was going to be so played by the front entrance of Paris. At 11, Clemi and her crew came and we hung out and talked for quite a while. Then the kids did their own thing while Clemi and I attacked the quick hits platinum machines. I got 6 quick hits once and 5 several times. Clemi was getting bonuses like crazy, but it would only give her enough to keep playing for awhile. After about an hour our machines went cold and we parted ways.

Meanwhile, S had gone to the room for a bit. When she came back down we walked over to Planet Hollywood and played for a bit. It was crazy busy and you couldn’t get a drink there so we didn’t stay too long. Back to Bally’s and up to the room sometime around 4:30 I think.

    Friday 6/21
This was going to be our spa day at Qua. We went to the buffet at Caesars for breakfast so we could compare to Wicked Spoon. About the same quality, I thought. S liked the fresh squeezed juices. I hate the club music playing in there.

Gambled a bit and went to Qua. We’d had very little sleep at this point, so we didn’t do any treatments this time and bought a day pass so we could relax and sleep. I would go to sleep and wake up thinking I was in the room and the bathtub was overflowing because the rushing water of the roman baths was so loud LOL! We finished up there around 4.
We had to walk to the Mirage to get our tickets for Lewis Black for later that night. Walked over to Harrahs and took the monorail back to Ballys to finish getting ready.

Tonight was going to be the buffet at Planet Hollywood that we’d bought on groupon. We got there around 7:30. I wasn’t very hungry yet and not too impressed with the offerings until I saw they had steamed crab legs. Our server brought a huge plate of them for us, and that’s mostly what I ate. The desserts here were mostly dry crappy cupcakes.

From here we took a cab to Mirage for our show. Before the show, I played CSI for the first time and got the bonus. It lasted a long time and was fun, but the pays on the actual game were not good.

I love Lewis Black, but the guy that opened was not good. The show was not as funny as I wanted it to be, and this seems to be the case for me whenever I see a comedian in Vegas. Maybe I’m just too focused on wanting to gamble. I’ll save my money next time.

After the show we went to Harrahs to gamble. S went to play blackjack and I went to VP. After a while I hit 4 3’s w/kicker for $200 but played it back down to $100. I went to find S to see if there was a spot at her table for me. I like to play 3rd base and it was open so I sat at her table with her at 1st base. Pretty soon these two guys sit down. One of them had just turned 21 at midnight and the dealer was having trouble with whether his license was valid or not. It was, and pretty soon we all knew each other and each had crazy nicknames and we gave the dealers nicknames too! Most of them were cool, but one old guy was a stick in the mud, and that only made us laugh harder!

When we cashed out, I was up $100 and it was 5:30 am. We cabbed it back to Ballys and I was freaking out because this is the night we needed sleep the most because the hair show opened at 11am and my friend M would be here this morning!

    Saturday 6/22/13
I woke up around 10am and got ready. M called and said she’d be there right at 11am. I met her at valet to make sure she could park her car because they had a sign that said valet was only for diamond and hotel guests because they were so full. No problem there. M bought a 3 day monorail pass like we had the day before and went on to the show. S and I needed breakfast. We were buffeted out, but it was quick and easy so we did Paris buffet for breakfast. We didn’t stuff ourselves this morning like we had the two previous mornings, so it was ok.

We got to the hair show around 2pm. Walked around, saw some product demos. Met up with M at the monorail and went back to Ballys to get ready for the evening. We decided tonight we’d go to Mon Ami Gabi.

When we got to the room I picked up the room phone and hit the button that says restaurant reservations and it connected me to the bell desk at Harrahs New Orleans. Weird, huh? I finally get a reservation for 10:30 pm. We go downstairs and this is when I decided to try a slushy drink from a place called evening call. I got the “wake up call” blended cappuccino with irish cream. And I got an extra shot of Malibu sundae, which is chocolate rum. Ok, I’m not a big drinker, but these were good and I had a lot more the rest of the trip!

At Mon Ami Gabi, I got the onion soup and the steak au poivre. It was a lot of food, but the other girls helped me on that. I probably wouldn’t get the steak again. We were not seated on the patio, but they had the doors to the patio open so you could hear the music from the Bellagio fountain. You could also hear the person with a bullhorn telling everyone how they were all sinning and going to hell LOL. We all got a kick out of it, but I’m sure if you were trying to have a nice romantic dinner on the patio, it sucked!

After dinner, we went our separate ways and played. I went back to the area where I got 4 aces and I got them again! I was back to playing quarters, but still $500, and I still hadn’t had to hit the ATM yet! Cashed in the ticket and went to a buffalo machine close by. Betting 80 cents, I get the bonus and hit lots of buffalo for around $250! Wow! In a matter of 30 minutes I’m up $750! Well, it didn’t last. You know how it is sometimes, I thought I was invincible and spent it all back. I was so sad. I swore I wouldn’t do that this time. I went to bed down to $100 of what I brought with me. This wasn’t terrible, because I didn’t bring my whole bankroll with me and I’d planned to hit the ATM if needed, but I was on the cusp of not having to. Hit the bed at 4:15am. M was snoozing and S wasn’t there yet.

    Sunday 6/23
It turns out S stayed up until 7 am playing blackjack at Paris. We had another day of hair show, so this was going to be tiring! M left early for the show. I played while I waited for S to get ready. Had to hit the ATM. There’s a bank of quarter VP machines at Ballys that are progressives. Not only is the royal progressive, but all the hands build progressively until they’re hit. Everything from 4oak up. The royal had been hit last night, but the 4 aces w/kicker was high at around $582. There are 8 machines and they were packed, but I was able to get one. Within an hour of playing, I hit the 4 aces w/kicker for the third time this trip!

When S was ready we had lunch at Nosh inside Ballys. We each had a turkey wrap. From there, I took the monorail to Harrahs, across the street to Mirage and trammed it to TI to check in there for the room I had booked on my comps for M. This offer came with $50 freeplay and a chance to spin a wheel for up to $250 more. My spin got me an extra $25. I played my freeplay into $80 real cash and got a cab to the convention center.

Did the show thing, bought a bunch of stuff I’d seen yesterday that I wanted to get. When it was over at 6, I went back to Ballys to wait for the other girls.
Since M was staying at TI, she drove us over and parked in their valet. We played here for a while. I played quick hits platinum and won some and lost some. We needed food, so we went across the street to Grand Lux and had a great dinner. Played at Venetian for a while. S and I went back to Ballys at around 2 am. S went to bed and I played until 3:15 and headed up myself.

    Monday 6/24
Leaving day. I’m always so sad to have to leave. M met us at Ballys and we walked to Cosmo for Wicked Spoon one more time. After we ate, we walked back to Ballys. M caught the monorail to the show for the last day and S and I had late checkout. I had talked to the front desk and a host yesterday. 1pm checkout and the host comped all my charges. Only about $150. He told me to charge more next time! In the end I was only 110 tier credits from making platinum again. That’s the most I’ve ever played and I was $300 under budget for my bankroll this trip! I’m ready to go back in September for the G2E meet!
Sorry this was so long and thanks for reading if you made it all the way through!

Is this a yearly event? If so what is it called? A friend of ours may be interested as it would be a good way to get her out there and still be able to write off the trip as a business expense.

We are looking forward to our groupon for this place. We heard lots of good things, but your response to the desserts is fairly common from what I have read.

Let me guess.....he felt your choices were causing him to lose.
Glad to read you didn't let it bother you.

    Sounds like a wild ride.

The show is a yearly event it's called IBS Las Vegas. IBS stands for International Beauty Show and they have one in New York each year as well.

The guy that was a stick in the mud was actually a dealer!

Good report, thanks for sharing! Sounds like the gambling gods were good to you. I swear if I play JoB, I get 4 Aces with kicker, and if I switch over to DDB or such, then I always just get 5s-Ks. :) Sounds like you had a good time though! again, thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed your TR......I'm like S, a fan of the bottomless Mimosas. You had some great luck and platinum is within reach now, congrats!
