So in 24 hours I'll be boarding a 757 out of SFO bound for Jax, NC. (With a 2 hour layover in Houston, TX)
    I can't wait!
We're going to see my wife's sister (whom I'm never met)
As well as visit AC, NYC, and DC
This will probably be my only chance in my LIFE to get up that way...so I took it.
    I can't wait!
Hell, we may even drive down to Florida (wife's never been to FL, but I have)

Sounds like a fun trip but it's gonna be a hell of a lot of driving up and down the East Coast!

Don't forget to visit all the casinos in Maryland and Philly, along the way;)

Also, for your drive up north, take hwy 19 (I think that is the one), and drive through the Outer Banks in NC on your way into Virginia.

Have fun! Unfortunately with you know what going on (I don't want to say anything politicial) you may not enjoy DC as much with many sites closed. There are still some places still open, newseum, spy museum, Cop shop. There is also a NASA goddard space center outside of DC but I am not sure if that is closed as well.

I visited DC this past May and all I did was see the sights that are now probably closed. I also enjoyed the smithsonian, was great since it was free but I think that is closed also.

Even then it sounds like a great trip!

Where are you staying in AC and NYC? If you have your choice of CET properties comped go with Harrahs. It's the nicest and there's no big loss being away from the boardwalk with the current weather. But if you like casino hopping stay at Caesars or Showboat, avoid Ballys at all costs unless you enjoy a crack den vibe.

If you're bringing your car into Manhattan go to bestparking.com, they have an iphone app as well. Parking is expensive but you can get good deals using that site plus it makes it super easy to find garages. You can try finding free street parking but depending on the day/time and neighborhood it can be next to impossible to find. Plus you'll have to move it if you're staying for a while.

Make sure to have some small bills while driving for tolls. Just the 2 hour drive from AC to NYC is about $20 in tolls. :)

Have you considered the auto train? I would do the auto train far as far up north then return the rental at Philly. From Philly take Amtrak up to NYC since you don't want to deal with parking and driving in the city and the tolls in NJ/NY.

Yeah, were staying at Harrahs AC.
Also, were gonna drive to Newark/Penn Station, then use PATH to get into NYC (to 33rd st, to see Times Square and Empire State Building)
Liberty island is back open also, so we'll have to see about how we get there on PATH
    About to leave for SFO!

    Tim,
Last winter I stopped for the night in AC on my way up to my best friends mothers funeral in northern New Jersey. It was a last minute trip and he didnt even know I was coming, but I knew his Mom and wanted to be there for the family. I flew into BWI in a snowstorm on a late Friday afternoon. The traffic from Balt/DC going north on Friday at rush hour is pretty brutal for a guy used to Nashville traffic.

Finally got over to AC for the night. Stayed at Harrahs and only played a few hours of DDB 9/6 $1 vp with a small amount of bj thrown in. They have been sending me great offers ever since including flying me up there. Harrahs is NOT on the boardwalk and the room reminded me of an embassy suites room(front room is a living room and the bedroom is in the back). But it was nice and casino was fine. On Saturday morning, I took the turnpike up to Morris County. Plenty of tolls along the way. But there was basically no traffic on that road. Have a good trip and let us know how it goes.

    Huddler

    huddler,
Were going to drive up to AC Monday morning.
Tuesday morning drive up to Newark
Wednesday were driving into DC and Philly, then back to Jax (NC)
Thursday I'm going to visit relatives in Western VA.
We've got a bayview at Harrahs and we'll try a $20 trick to see if we can get a big suite...

Sounds like you are definitely going to get some windshield time in on this trip. When I drove back down to BWI, I went a different route that took me through Pennsylvania. It was close to Christmas time and I had some time so I stopped by a mall in Baltimore that had a casino! Bought some gifts for the kids at some sporting goods store. The casino beside the mall was called Maryland Live! or something like that. I remember watching football at the bar and playing vp with some really bad paytables but took a few hundred off them somehow! Good luck to you!

If you take the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel, you should consider using the ferry from Lewes, Delaware to Cape May, NJ, then up the Garden State Parkway up to Atlantic City. There is a ferry schedule online.

IF you drive from The Bridge Tunnell to the Del. Mem Bridge

If you use a garman(gps) it will want to take you up Rt 13 all the way. When you get into MD. take Rt 113 instead to Dover then pick up RT 1 which will eventually take you back to Rt 13 and over the Bridge to Jersey.
    A lot less lights.
There's a lot of easier ways to get to NYC besides driving into down town Newark .. Plenty of trains and busses from all over.
In good weather the ferry is a nice ride from Del to NJ.

Huddler, were you in the Atrium Tower? I've never been in there but from your description that's what it sounds like. That and Harbour are the oldest towers, Atrium is all old suites, and from what I've seen do look like Embassy Suite type places. If you ever go again, ask for the Waterfront or Bayview Towers. Those are the newest and nicest, and pretty modern. Its usually an automatic upgrade for Diamond I believe, but since you got in late Friday that may not have been. I've only stayed in Waterfront suites since becoming Diamond. The AC casinos do comp aggressively and send offers almost daily, so you can keep your eyes open for one that really looks attractive.

I wouldnt give $20 for the atrium suite unless you really want the xtra room

Try for the corner suites in the Waterfront Twr.

An uneventful first leg to Houston...now a 2 hour layover then off to Charlotte...
Edit: originally Kris and I had an open seat next to us...but apparently some crazy ass lady had to "move" to it...i thought she was gonna flip out the entire time, cuz apparently EVERYTHING bothered her.
ALSO, not that I've really flown much, but there are some IRRITABLE mofos in the airport!
Sheeeet, I'm flying having a good time, it sure beats driving!!
