There was an older post that said it was better to use points to pay at a downtown Boyd restaurant rather than charging to the room and waiting to pay at the end of the trip.

Just confirming this is still true.

The poster said that you will NOT get the 40% discount when paying with points at the end of the trip. That the 40% discount only applies when you pay at the restaurant.

I don't think you can pay with points at the end of a trip (room charges). You have to pay at the restaurant if you want to use points. Room charges can only be comped by a host or you have to pay for them with cash/cc. My sister had wanted to do that once at MSS but was told she couldn't, it didn't work that way and I recall saying they weren't the same as express comps at MLife hotels. This was a couple of years ago now though so maybe things have changed.

There is 40% discount when paying with points.

100,000 points equals $100 if you cash out.
A $100 food bill only takes 60,000 points. That ratio applies to all amounts. You can even buy drinks at the bars and pay with points and get that same 40% off.

And no, you can't use points at the end for room charges.

Ummmmm....so I don't have to pay cash?? Some chain restaurants in casinos don't take points or accept room charges. That's why I'm asking.

Forgive me, I was just making a joke about the quality of food at that particular Tony Roma's. Search the board, you won't find too many positive reviews.

Hey Joe, that's what makes a market. TR must get repeat business as they have been inside Fremont for years. At least you apologized so hats off to you.
On another note, I find the LOUDSPEAKER calling the TR reservations to be annoying. Every table called starts with the words TONY ROMA'S, even if 3 tables are called at the same time. Certainly would not call this sublimal advertisement. Unless you enjoy hearing the words TONY ROMA'S repeated over & over, I would avoid the Fremont Friday & Saturday evenings.
