We have reservations at MB for an upcoming stay but my wife really prefers THeHotel over Mandalay, any thoughts on asking for an upgrade to THeHotel at check in or would I be better to call the reservation service?

We have 2 comped nights at MB and 2 nights at a reduced rate already so I am comfortable with that but I like to keep the boss happy.

We are pearl status on Mlife----just a couple of working schmucks with limited bankrolls------but most of my offers are from Luxor and Excalibur where I like to play but are not my favorite places to stay. If we play more at MB will the offers come more from that casino?

Oh well, either way we will be there for SEMA, let the games begin:beer::beer:

    Thanks in advance.

I tried the $20 trick at MB and no go, although they offered us THEHotel for $20 extra per night. We needed two beds and they did not have it, so we just stuck with the regular room. It was a great room.

If I recall, SEMA (and associated events) will have about 115,000 attendees. What that means is upgrades will not be as easy to get as they normally are when things are slow.

My thoughts: If you absolutely want to stay in THEhotel then do so through the reservation process. But, if you're willing to risk it (as well as save some money), ask for an upgrade from a manager or host when checking in.

I stayed in THEhotel for a week about two years ago. It was wonderful and I highly recommend it. I was initially given a lower floor suite on the undesirable West side but used the "$20 dollar trick" to try and upgrade to a better room. Either the desk clerk really liked me or they were slow and had plenty of rooms available because it worked. I ended up in one of the highest corner suites overlooking The Strip. That is the only time I've gotten an upgrade like that and I probably won't get one again.

TheHotel is only $20 more a night (if you're talking about SEMA in two weeks), that's a no-brainer.

As far as playing more at Mandalay Bay to get more offers, I've found they are feast or famine. I'm guessing when occupancy is low, with no convention in town, they're willing to be far more generous. I've gotten some very good offers from them, with some fairly low level VP play. I bet a lot in their sports book, but that doesn't count.

I called to ask about any options and was told there were no upgrades available to THEHotel at this time.

I guess its time I try the $20/$50 trick at check in.

Last december, I did the 50 dollar trick and was upgraded from a standard MB room to the basic room at TheHotel. I am not so sure the woman knew it was a 50. The hotel was slightly busy as it was the weekend of the LV bowl for football, and one of the teams had MB as their "team" hotel, but not convention busy by any means. (The other team's hotel was the HR, and it seemed a lot more busy by comparison.)
