We traveled from Houston on SW Airlines, For a 5 night stay. Bought airfare in June had A-28-29 from early bird purchase. Mom (J) bought her airfare in July and had A-33. She lives about an hour from us so husband (D) mid 50’s & I (S) mid 40’s, picked her up day before and dropped off our dogs for my Dad to babysit. Flight was good, got into Vegas a few minutes early about 10:15am. We rented a full size Dodge Charger car with J&S both as drivers for $175 for 6 days via Alamo with American Casino Guide coupon. It was great to pre-check in the night before and go straight to pick out the car. Went straight to Lotus of Siam was there by 11:30, it was a bit hard to find as it’s a strip center behind some buildings that looked closed and the sign is very small. Thought it would be crowded on a work day, but really wasn’t. It was delicious, this is certainly a place we will go back too next trip. Next stop was to check into the Plaza, D&S had 3 nights comped but we were really only using the 1st night, we kept the room to have the other nights as we like to gamble downtown and usually end up down there after the rodeo, it was nice to have the room if we drank too much as well. I gave Plaza a lot of play for the free room! J was playing in the Bingo Bonanza, so she stayed @ the Plaza the entire trip. The Plaza room was OK. The bathroom is just too small and the AC made noise most of the night on and off. The shower head is way to low. We had to call and ask for soap to be brought up. The room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable and the TV had hundreds of channels. They let us check in early as well. That was my first time using my Wells Fargo credit card to check in here and the next morning I got a call from Wells Fargo that my CC number was being used in Taylor, TX and they were concerned since I logged that I was on vacation in Vegas. So they had to cancel my card and do the fraud investigation, I was told these thieves get your credit card number somehow and make a new card with your number in their name and go use it, they went to the HEB grocery store 3 times for $680 and went to Walmart and spent $200 before the card was cancelled on them. When I came downstairs from unpacking the bathroom bag, D was talking to these 3 older guys that had talked him into having them walk us to The Downtown Grand to sign us up for a player’s card so they could each get $10 in free play. We ended up with $15 in free play as new players + a T-shirt, and also got enough points that day for a free hoodie and food credit, that we didn’t use. It’s a nice clean casino but I didn’t have much luck there. We saw these same guys in line numerous times over our stay, signing up strangers to get their free play. Went to Chart house for happy hour food and mojitos also got mojitos to go. Then went back to the Grand, across the street is the Commissary it’s a very nice bar and they have great ½ price drinks until 7pm, very good mojitos here too. It was dead down there, only 4 other people in the bar, I think The Grand is just enough off Fremont Street that people do not make their way down there. We gambled everywhere downtown and I ended up with a LaBayou frozen hurricane. I ended the night with a High Roller Beer from Main Street. D&S had a late dinner at Dupars @ Golden Gate, J played bingo. Our friends M&M flew in late the night before and met us for breakfast; they have season tickets to the rodeo that is how we get our seats to NFR. Wet met them for breakfast at Dupar’s, best breakfast ever!! D woke up not feeling well, he ended up being sick until Sunday with flu like symptoms. We gambled some downtown, then went to Caesars to check in, had 4 nights comped, booked 8 months in advance when I tried to add the 5th night in June, once I realized we were going earlier they wanted $250 for that Wednesday night that is why we kept the free room @ Plaza. We were booked in Octavious tower but they gave us Palace Tower, on the 26th floor, we were OK with that wasn’t up for arguing over it as I knew there was a large convention in town and they probably were really overbooked. Plus husband was sick and needed a bed and they were willing to check us in early. The Palace tower rooms are very nice anyway, so we were happy with our room and had a view of the strip towards Mirage could see & hear the volcano. J & S walked around and gambled and had lunch @ Yard House @ Linq, it was very good food. J had a ticket to the Million $ Quartet Harrah’s, then took the bus back downtown afterwards. We went to the rodeo, went early to go to the tents to meet M&M and drink beer, husband was a trooper he even drank 2 beers, but their tickets are at the very top of the stadium and that walk up the stairs about killed him as he had no energy. One bull rider was trampled very badly it was not good, never could find an update on him, I hope he has recovered. I took D back to Caesars then drove downtown to spend some time with my mom, we ate at the Claim Jumper @ Golden Nugget the service was really slow, the veggie burger was good, but mom’s soup wasn’t that great. Friday we were supposed to go hike a trail @ Red Rock but the weather wasn’t cooperating, it was raining lightly but steadily, and J was starting to not feel well. We went to Red Rock Casino to use 2 free buffets J got from Myvegas for breakfast, excellent buffet! I hit $350 on some penny slot named “Dogs” Then we played in the 11am bingo session. J & D each hit bingos, so it was a winning trip to Red Rock. Went back to Caesars J&S walked around and gambled while D slept. We had 5:30 reservations at Giada, M&M thought we were canceling and ate about 2pm so they weren’t very hungry; I had text M several times earlier that day but apparently she was having phone trouble and didn’t know until 4 we were still going. They only had appetizers, soups and desert. Us 3 however were hungry, that was the best dinner I’ve ever had. The menu is a bit different than what was posted online. I’m a vegetarian but I do eat a few seafood items. I wanted the potatoes on the side orders but found out they have bacon in them. They didn’t have polenta, but had several other items added, like spaghetti squash which we ordered but were informed Giada didn’t accept the truck delivery of squash as it wasn’t up to her standards, I believe that meant she was there but we never saw her, it was a Friday night, so maybe she was there. We shared the onions, sweet peppers, and eggplant fries as appetizers and we shared 2 rounds of the awesome bread plate. D had the surf & turf, J & S split the lemon spaghetti. It was delicious. The shrimp were as big as a small lobster tail! D had lemon meringue pie, J & S split the cookies and the chocolate molten cake, that cake was the best desert I’ve ever had, next time I’m not sharing that, get your own - Ha!!! The cookies weren’t that great and I had read how good they were so I was excited to try them but wasn’t that impressed, except the lemon cookie was very good. D went back to the room to rest for Ron White after dinner, I went to room to change then J & I headed over to the Mirage Rum Bar for some mojitos and slots before the show. M&M met us at the show, we bought the Ron White tickets as it was M&M choice of show to see to repay them for the rodeo seats. They picked a good show he was hilarious and his opening act was very funny as well, had a great time. I also hit on a $1 quickhits before the show for $1,031.00, got 3 quickhits on the 3 reels slot, had the other 2 just been moved up a few centimeters it would have been $10K, oh well I was happy with my win!! Saturday morning we all 5 ate at Dupar’s again. I had an 80 minute therapeutic massage @ Golden Nugget, which was awesome! J had her bingo tournament starting @ noon. We had to cancel the rodeo and it was the final night, we were sad to have to cancel it, but they had no problem selling our seats. There was no way D was up for going out there and climbing those stairs again. J doesn’t do the rodeo so she had a free seat at Zarkana @ Aria via Myvegas. I picked her up downtown and brought her back to Caesars. I walked her over to the show and we gambled a bit before her show. I hit $300 on a $1 3 reel triple diamond machine. We each had Myvegas rewards for Jean Philippe pastries @ Aria to claim as well, made for a great desert. I tried to last and wait for her show to end but was going to gamble all my winnings back if I waited. They make great free mojitos on the casino floor there, not a lot of places give those for free. Went back to the room and ordered room service for a late dinner. J took the bus back downtown. I won a 3 team college basketball parlay earlier in the day, put down $40 and collected $280.00. I lost two other 3 team parlays over the weekend, one on college basketball and one on NFL each by ½ point Florida Gators & The Texans my two favorite teams screwed my bets. Sunday M&M flew back home early. D & S went downtown to use free vouchers J had at Hash Hash a go go @ Plaza, it was just OK, not near as good as Dupar’s. I started to get sick so the rest of the trip was shot. But D started feeling better, he spent most of the day in the sportsbook watching and betting on football, he won some of his NFL bets. J played in her bingo tournament. She didn’t feel like coming back to the strip afterwards. I slept all day and went and got D out of the sports book around 5 we walked to Cheesecake Factory to eat. Then I went back to room to pack and back to bed. Monday, we flew out on the 7:15am flight back home. I was really sick and the plane ride was not a good flight for me but it went by fast, I must have slept a lot. Was happy to get home to see our dogs, they are our children. It was a bummer we had waited 17 months for this trip since our last vacation, and everyone ended up sick, but we had some fun times and good memories. We have 366 more sleeps until next trip; my cousin turns 21, so we are all meeting in Vegas to celebrate!!
