    My Trip Report

Mamma Mia! Second time for Terri and me. Significant drop in musical ability for most of the players across the board. Still a fun tale and mom loved it, which made it all worthwhile. (Note: Lotsa understudies on the card, btw.)

Bootlegger Bistro: Great food, so-so service. Fair pricing even w/o the Restaurant.com certificate. Try the homemade sausage.

Mi Casa (Silverton): Second time I’ve had dinner there. Recommended: carnitas, ceviche (have ‘em cut back on the lime juice), mahi tacos and the pintos and rice are really outstanding. The mole would work for someone not experienced with the Mexican mother sauce. Not Agave or Border Grill but much better than Diego at a portion of the cost.

Orleans oyster bar: Jambalaya on fettucine??? Chowder still rocks. I’ve you’re not dairy fat averse try the white clam sauce on linguine.

Shopping: Terri struck out but not for a lack of effort. I did well at the Rack and Greg Norman outlet.

Meet: Saw a few familiar faces and made some new friends. Nice seeing all of you!

Silverton: Been playing there a bit of late. Really like the overall package. Still need some work room-wise but given the inherent limitations of the hotel they offer up a commendable package. Linens aren’t up to the quality of the beds. Antiquarian TVs but a CD player in the room. Nice décor. Crisp and clean and no funky odors a la MSS last month or condoms in the corner of the room a la the Roachera and no bugs a la Orleans. Get the top/4th floor ‘cause I imagine there’s a load of noise from above given how the floors creak. Great mix of VP. Scored a number of free appies and desserts, three $5 cash winners, one mystery gift and a concert ticket on the pull tabs.

POV coupies: Three Silverton matchplays … won all three. Original Pancake House (GVR), B1G1. Two appies and a dessert at Mi Casa, gratis.

In other news: KQA10J spades dealt on a quarter FP jacks machine at the Mi Casa bar. Oh, I was playing a three-play.

I stopped by the bar last night with nearly an hour to spare prior to an airport pick-up, and they told me about this. Nice going! At least I know where my luck from last week went - and it went to a friend instead of a stranger.

And it's always nice to have bartenders at tequila bars recognize you when you're coming in...

I have this happen to me too - every time I have used a match play coupon, I have won.

Thanks!!! I know a guy who was dealt a RF on a 10-line quarter machine and another friend hit a 5 buck machine for 20 grand. I was utterly stunned so I can't even imagine how they felt. Talk about the best feeling that doesn't involve love, sex or really helping someone ... wowza. It really takes your breath away.

I LIKE The Silverton, too bad it's so far out and with no car,
I'd need to hit Royals each trip to make cab fare. CONGRADS KEN!

I stayed at the Silverton in November, also on the 4th floor view of the pool, the room stunk to high heavens, it was disgusting and you couldn't sleep from the smell. The room was very dark also. Walls were very thin, heard everything from ajoining room, that must of been an interesting evening in that room. I really liked the casino, especially the Monopoly Slots, husband enjoyed the VP machines, did you bowl at the tralier in the bar, I really thought that was neat. I don't think that I would stay there again, but for the price of the rooms, I might think about it. I just felt so fat away from everything.

Wow, I observed not long ago that we found Wynn to be noisy given it's position in the market. One morning someone was using a jackhammer out behind the south end of Silverton and I didn't notice it in our room but did in the hallway. Did you have a room with an adjoining-room door? That's death pretty much anywhere. And since I think MSS and Orleans, two faves of many, are rather stinky guess we got lucky -- ??? -- with our Silverton experience.

I'd never send anyone to Silverton w/o a lot of Vegas experience, primarily because of the location. Now during two of my February trips I drove down to Silverton every eve specifically to play, coming from the Strip and downtown. I've also spent hundreds of nights in Vegas and am comfortable driving so not having walk-on-over-to-see-the-Bellagio-fountains convenience is no longer a must on every trip. And as a VP player primarily it's hard for me to find a better array of games in a playing environment I enjoy.

Yes, we had an ajoining room, but the noise was coming from the other side of the room. Is the construction still bad over there?

Congratulations on the VP win! I would be happy to be dealt a RF on a single line game. I'd probably have a heart attack if it was a multi-line.
