    My Trip Report

Both my wife and I are "fallen" Harrahs Diamond Club members. Although I really don't like most of the rooms we often stay at Harrah's on the strip due to it being so convenient and you can get a room on short notice. We have two homes in Henderson Seven Hills one of which I will actually get to live in after I retire in two years and get out of the Seattle weather. As home rentals we "need" check on them or least that is the excuse I give at work for my frequent trips there.

In Jan I got the bright idea to have K my wife fly to Reno Harrahs and get her diamond card. Reno still has 9/6 JOB in dollars on slant top machines. She went and it took her 15 hrs of play but she got diamond in a day. She didn't get any Royals though ended up down about $2,500 which is only ok as she won 2 $1 Royals at Green Valley Ranch over New Years. Now I can go to the Diamond lounge and eat and drink and make a pig out of myself... Additionally I love to go to the steam rooms in the mornings which is free for Diamond members.

Well shortly after she got back we had an offer for 3 nights at the TI and $100 free play and a Spin to win $50-$500 once my wife (K) and I arrived. I added an extra night for $69.00 plus taxes ect which I figured we could pay for via the free play. The was K's birthday at least that was the reason I gave K for the trip. I also wanted to play the legendary Lions Share to at least say I have played it.

We play mostly 9/6 JOB $1 level and practice feverishly on the Winpoker program before we leave. I like the low volitility of the 9/6 JOB as we can usually play quite a while although of course there are some ups and downs. This trip I plan to play some Boner Deluxe (High Volitility due to 2 pair paying 5) as Royal Flusher gave me the fever to play it reading his posts.

I had checked on rental car prices and Alamo with the Costo discount was the best I found. Unfortunately for the complete time we were there the price was $219.00. On the other hand if I picked up the car the day after we arrived at 130pm it would only be $69.00 total. I have ridden the SDX to the South outlet mall starting at the fashion show mall and walked the couple of blocks to the car rental terminal. Cost $8 for 24hr pass.

Thursday: Couldn't get upgraded to first class on Alaska so coach it was. I always buy the wifi $7.95 to keep me entertained. Flight was uneventful.

Upon arrival, I went to Bell Trans as I really wanted to use the VIP shuttle but only wanted to go one way. I had made multiple emails and calls to Bell Trans but never got anyone to answer any questions. I stood in line for about 5 minutes and got to the Bell Trans clerk who knew less about the VIP Shuttle than I did. He did give me a number and when I spoke to them they said yes you can book it one way you just don't fill in the return trip and it's $18 but must be done 24hrs in advance. I will try this next time. Got a cab and first thing I said was "Cheapest route" no tunnel. This got the message across as the tab came to $19 plus tip. So you know if you say "fastest route" it will cost you more go figure....

Got to the TI at about 940am which was a little early for check in. Went to the invited guest's line and had a specific room in mind. Got up to the clerk and asked for a South Strip View king non smoking. Included the folded $20 trick with the ID and credit card. Not sure if she saw it though. She immediately said they were sold out of Strip view rooms and also we couldn't even try to check in until 1000am. I asked her if they had any complimentary upgrades and she abruptly said no. I guess she must have then seen the $20 because she then started typing on the computer. We always ask for floor #25 or 31 as those are the first stops on the elevator. Best views are rooms 010 014 018 they look right down the strip. After some more hmming and hawing we had our room 25th floor looking directly down the strip. We like the TI and in the summer you can get a cheap cabana or round clamshell covered couch pretty cheap.

No resort fee for me please as I have an ATT hotspot that I bring that works better anyway.

I do like the coupon book you get at check in for Kahunaville 2 breakfasts ie 3 eggs bacon ect. for $14. It's a great deal ad in the summer you can sit out by the pool for the same price. Only serves 7-11am.

We then went down and loaded my $100 free play on the card. We have a method of getting the cash out probably not scientific but we have fun with it. We load $25 FP on to the machine add the required $5 and play 50cent 9/6 JoB after playing 10 hands we cash out the ticket then repeat. At the end we usually have all our freeplay in cash which I think we had a little over $100 or so. Put it away to pay for the $69 room for the fourth night. Did the spin to win and got $60 imagine that. Played that using our method and came out with $55.

    More to come..

Thursday afternoon: After a quick nap and set up of my bose stereo, IPad, charging station, and hot spot we decided to head out. Each of us were armed with our $500 budget. I had left all my ATM cards at home just so I wouldn't be tempted. We planned to walk to get a little exercise and as an avid Seattle Seahawks fan K my wife had bought a sports book ticket in Reno for the Seahawks to win. We walked over to Harrahs and she got about $200 for her $100 ticket. We also played the 25cent Aces Bonus Poker at the Bar for free Sugar Free Red Bull (my vice) and also to keep the cards active. I lost $20, K won $20.

We then walked over to the Aria to cash two $600 winning tickets a coworker asked her to cash. I then talked K into walking down to the MGM to play the Lions Share located next to the High Limit slots. I let K play first and she put in a $100. She then cashed out at $200 well sort of cashed out. Lions Share is a 1995 machine that takes bills but doesn't give out a ticket you have to call the slot person. K then went off to play the 3 line 9/6 $1 JOB in the high limit room. I put in my $100 and I didn't have to call the slot person as I lost mine. The Lion didn't put out. I then went over and played a little 3 line $1 JOB on the machine on the other side of K's. I ended up winning $300 recovering my $100 Lion's share loss and $200 more. K ended up winning $400.

We then went outside to the Bus Kiosk outside and each bought an $8 24hr bus pass to get me to the Rental Car terminal the next day. The ride on the Duece back to the TI was mostly full but we got a seat and it was kind of fun riding it. We ate that night at Mirage Deli Carnagies Pastrami was not very good. M Resort has the best Pastrami now that Canters is gone.

Ended up sitting down at TI and playing for several hours on the $1 9/6 but ended up down about $400 until... I switched over to Boner Deluxe and hit 4 Kings for $400. I then called it a night. My wife kept yelling at me not to call it "Boner Deluxe" as she was afraid someone might hear me. I think K ended up about $400 for the night sticking strictly to $1 9/6 JOB. About 200am and both of us were sound asleep I heard someone knocking on our door. I ignored it but they were persistent and just wouldn't give up. I answered the door and there was a middle aged clean cut guy dressed like a salesman drunk fiddling with his phone. He was apologetic and for some reason I said "It happens" not sure why I said that... anyway finally got back to sleep.

Friday morning: I woke up about 700 am and K was not feeling well and wanted Cottage cheese to settle her stomach. I went down to the TI Cafe and asked if they had any cottage cheese. First they said they didn't know and then when I showed it to them on the menu $3.95 they said, "Oh we don't have any to go containers" which was a BS answer. I then left in a huff and went to Starbucks and got a drink as well as a plastic cup with lid aka "container" but they charged me .81 for the empty cup. Guess I should have fished one out of the garbage or asked for a glass of water and poured the water out.

I then went back to the Cafe and although I really didn't want to eat there (too expensive) I decided I wasn't going back to the room without cottage cheese and this Cafe was going to give it to me.

I then ordered the 3 egg Breakfast with bacon $13.95 and asked the waitress to substitute cottage cheese instead of hash browns. Upon receiving my meal the cottage cheese went into the Starbucks cup. Breakfast was ok but way too expensive. I then went back upstairs to the room and proudly presented K with her cottage cheese.

I then went over to Harrahs and went to the Spa to use the Steam room. On a side note I forgot to tell you that while K was in Reno getting her Diamond she went the next day and used my card and played for 14hrs and got me my Diamond. Again no Royals but it only cost her $1,000 this time.

I entered the Spa and proudly presented my Diamond card. Had a great Steam and watched some of the Olympics while in the Jacuzzi. Harrah's steam room is great as they really turn on the steam and they give you ice cold towels too.

I then went to Casino Royale to Tix for Tonight as I wanted to get Tickets to a Comedian Amy Shumer playing at the Mirage. They didn't have any tickets so I went over and got them at the Mirage $49.99 ea plus I got an aisle seat.

We then went back to Casino Royal as K has $150 in food comps and she wanted to get her coupon book. The book was now worthless nothing good no video poker 4 of a kind bonus and they don't even have 8/5 bonus poker anymore. We went up and ate at Outback. Not great but free with comps.

Got to be about 1230pm and so I talked K into going with me on the bus to get the car rental. We rode the bus and got off at the South Outlet mall and walked and got the rental car a Toyota Corolla which has a total of 3 miles on the odometer brand new.

We then drove out to Henderson to view a 4,000 sq ft Vacation Rental by Owner we are renting in May for a family get together. House was great pool, spa, and great kitchen. Beware there are many scams out there where people rent houses they don't own that's why we wanted to actually go into the home.

    More later.

Friday Night: At 400pm we went over to the Diamond Lounge at Harrahs right when they opened. We sat at a table and I ordered my free Pina Colada and K had a lemon drop free of course. We then went and had some of the hot food. Not a lot of selection ie some sort of enchilada and chips and dessert but it was free and lots of nice flat screen tvs. I wasn't done with only one free drink so I had another. We then went back to the room and took it easy for a few hours.

We went down and played for a while at the $1 9/6 JOB and came away a few hundred up. Casino was starting to get crowded and lots of happy drunks which I like.

At about 915pm we took the tram from TI to the Mirage to go the the Amy Schumer show. K sat down and played some kind of slot machine called "Megabucks". She put in a hundred went down to $20 and then back up to $120 and cashed out. It was now about 940pm and we headed to the showroom. I was kinda thirsty and wanted to get something to drink. I saw that the lines were long so we got our seats and I went back to pick up some drinks. Each line had 35 people in them (I counted) I knew there was no way I was going to get a drink so I went back to my seat. As much as those drinks cost why can't they have more help?

Amy Schumer is a Comedian who has a show on Comedy Central I think. She was pretty funny but the show stalled towards the end and she asked the audience about what routine they would like to hear. The last bit was pretty funny but all said it wasn't that great of show. Good thing I used some of my winnings to pay for it.

After the show we went back and played the $1 9/6 JOB and I watched the drunks come in and out of Gilley's the Country Bar. I ended up going in the hole about $500 but once again I played a few hands of Boner Deluxe and got another 4 of a kind in short order I think 2's? I ended up going to bed again up a few hundred for the trip. K was up about $500 so far so we were holding our own.

Our Contractor called and invited us to dinner at Texas De Brazil on Sat night which is at Town Square and I was looking forward to that.

Sat Morn: We went to Kahunaville for Breakfast $14 for two which was quick and good. Had to make a trip to Starbucks of course for coffee. There are two Starbucks at TI so if one is busy I will go to the other one. They do take Starbucks cards. K wanted to play some more so I reluctantly agreed (yeah right). This time no winners and shortly I was down about $500. Switch to BD and lost another couple hundred and quit. Guess I can't draw from the well too many times. K won a little but I didn't want to hear about it.

I ended up walking the Strip insead of going on tilt as I have been known to do. It's tough walking the strip now with the porn slappers, Rappers selling CD's, Time Share guys, Club Ticket guys, bottle water guys, and all the Transformers and Sponge Bobs wanting to have your picture taken with them. I walked down to Harrahs listened to the band at the Carnaval Court and headed back. The weather wasn't that great somewhere in the 60's but it was dry.

I checked out the front of the TI where they are tearing down the whole pirate show. They are putting in a CVS drugstore in the front which will make the front of TI look tacky in my opinion. At least I will be able to buy my Red Bull there as they don't sell it inside TI.

That night we went to the Texas De Brazil one of those Steakhouses that bring different meats to your table and cut off chunks for you. The salad bar was great and so were the meats. It runs about $40 a person but I think it is a good value and we stayed a long time.

After saying goodbye it was back to the TI and more $1 9/6 JOB but with some Boner Deluxe snuck in. K didn't want me to play it as it only pays 5 for two pair but I couldn't help myself. Never did win anything and now had to go get some more money out of the safe. K on the other hand kept holding her own and even won a few hundred. I promptly frittered away my next $500 but had enough sense to quit. I then wandered around checking out the drunks hoping that K would call me back telling me she had won a Royal. She never did.

Ended up heading back to the room and both of us were in bed by midnight. Can't believe I went to bed so early. Again at about 200am another persistent door knocker. Looked through the door as saw a good looking 25yr old female wearing nighclub type clothes. When I opened the door she was standing there holding a tray with 3 large Starbucks cups. She was very apologetic and I closed the door. I though about it later and carrying the tray of Starbuck's Coffee would have been a great ruse for a hooker to throw the Hotel Security off.

Sunday morning: Trotted over to Harrahs for another free Steam Room and Jacuzzi watching a little more Olympics in the Jacuzzi. Very relaxing until I tried to get back into my locker which had a fancy electronic lock. Ended up having to get the Locker room guy to enter his secret code to unlock my locker. Gave him $5 for his trouble.

Went back got some Starbucks and headed down to the $1 9/6 JOB with K. Played for awhile and when I was up about $200 I quit so I could post a win. K kept at it and won another couple of hundred.

We stayed at the TI for most of the afternoon and then I got the idea of going back to the MGM to try Lions Share again and play some more 3 line Spin Poker 9/6 JOB.

I got the car out of Valet ($3 tip) and we went to the MGM and parked in their South Valet which was near the High Limit Slot room. I was now into another $500 draw whereas K was still ahead on her first $500 in fact she was actually up about $500.

We sat down at the two spin poker machines in the high limit and I immediately ordered a Sugar Free Red Bull. I put in a $100 and promptly lost it so l put in another $100. I was quite pleased with myself when I ran it up to $310. At that time I heard K across from me and she shouted "I got it"! I cashed my ticket out and went over and saw she got a Royal on the middle line and got flushes on the other 2 lines for $4060. The first W2G of the year. Didn't take long to get paid. K gave the attendant $20 tip which was nice. K then wanted to play more but I told her she couldn't do any better than she already did. There was a nice couple who asked me if I was done playing my machine and I said yes.

We then went back and had dinner at Phil's Steakhouse which we had to pay for but they have one of the best Lobster Tails around. I had the Ribeye steak and a Wedge salad. It was a great meal after a win.

K continued to play some more that night and I did too but I didn't do that well and ended up down $1500 for the trip. K continued to play but basically was about even.

Headed to bed knowing we were up for the trip. Also here's a view from our room. You could see both the Mirage Volcano and Bellagio Fountains go off at the same time. Granted it wasn't a suite but it had a very large bathtub which I really like.

Monday morning: Got up and walked over to Caesar's Palace to the Qua Spa (took 20mins) to try their steam room. While all the other Harrahs Spas let the Diamond Card Players in for free the Qua Spa charges $20 which was ok with me. I then went to the Steam Room and although it was nice looking it put out a puny amount of steam. I then went to the Jacuzzi of which they have several and wasn't at all impressed. The "Snow room" wasn't working at the time but wasn't that big of deal for me. The best Steam rooms in the Harrahs chain Las Vegas are Harrahs and Rio both of which put out so much steam you can't even see your hand in front of your face. Rio is nice in that they give you juices as well as orange slices in a pail. Sometimes too you see the WSOP poker guys there.

I then walked back to the TI after paying for a crummy spa. K went to Chicago Style Hot Dogs and got some Chili that I thought was very good. I didn't want to play that day and lose any more so I just let K play knowing she would probably break even or make a little.

K came back to the room and we figured out we were up $3,000 for the trip. I then went down and paid the $80 room bill and we headed to the Rental Car return after getting gas. It was a good trip although I am happy just breaking even and getting the comps. I am already looking forward to May especially since we will be in a Home with a pool and spa.

    What a great trip!

How the heck did you get on the Lion's Share machine? Just spent 3 days there, went by it everyday, and the line to play was always 5 or 6 people deep. :rolleyes2:

Always nice to come home a winner............from Vegas!!!

We also could hardly get on the lion machine during this weekend. There were always 3-4 people in line waiting so we just hit the high limit room as well.

Enjoyable report, if I ever print up some BONER DELUXE t-shirts, I'll put you on the list.

Nice sequential Royal too, very savvy!

Royal Flusher, I can't believe I missed that! Didn't even catch that it was a Sequential Royal. Too bad it wasn't a Sequential Royal Machine or it would have been a lot more.

Additionally I forgot to add that on Friday we went and played our $20 free play at the M Resort but I lost mine, K won a few bucks. I love the M Resort and in fact we got the bellman to let us in a room to take pictures of the shower for a new master bedroom addition for our home in Henderson. I love the M as a Hotel but I hate their video poker machines. They use an off brand key pad that is always very sticky and prone to not holding cards if you play fast. The best game is 8/5 Aces Bonus Poker which I don't like to play. Beautiful Hotel though. If I am in that area of town we usually stay at Green Valley Ranch Resort and play their $1 9/6 JOB in the High Limit room.

How long did you wait for the slot attendant at the Lions Share? I had to sit there for at least 30 minutes to wait for my cash!

We waited about 5 minutes for a slot person to come around. In fact it took longer for slot person to get her her Lions Share money than it did to pay the Royal. One thing I did on the Lions Share is that I hit the service lights on the machines on each side of the Lions Share as well.

The hotspot I have is an AT&T Unite from Sierra Wireless. I tried many of the other models and brands and found this one to work the best and hook up the quickest. I think they still sell them. It runs about $15 a month to have it on my phone plan as prices just went down. It also works on streaming video well which we used when camping.

Good report and nice hits! Also good work getting on Lion's Share before the media frenzy hit. I went to Vegas the next week and forget it... lines too long.
