Both my wife and I are "fallen" Harrahs Diamond Club members. Although I really don't like most of the rooms we often stay at Harrah's on the strip due to it being so convenient and you can get a room on short notice. We have two homes in Henderson Seven Hills one of which I will actually get to live in after I retire in two years and get out of the Seattle weather. As home rentals we "need" check on them or least that is the excuse I give at work for my frequent trips there. In Jan I got the bright idea to have K my wife fly to Reno Harrahs and get her diamond card. Reno still has 9/6 JOB in dollars on slant top machines. She went and it took her 15 hrs of play but she got diamond in a day. She didn't get any Royals though ended up down about $2,500 which is only ok as she won 2 $1 Royals at Green Valley Ranch over New Years. Now I can go to the Diamond lounge and eat and drink and make a pig out of myself... Additionally I love to go to the steam rooms in the mornings which is free for Diamond members. Well shortly after she got back we had an offer for 3 nights at the TI and $100 free play and a Spin to win $50-$500 once my wife (K) and I arrived. I added an extra night for $69.00 plus taxes ect which I figured we could pay for via the free play. The was K's birthday at least that was the reason I gave K for the trip. I also wanted to play the legendary Lions Share to at least say I have played it. We play mostly 9/6 JOB $1 level and practice feverishly on the Winpoker program before we leave. I like the low volitility of the 9/6 JOB as we can usually play quite a while although of course there are some ups and downs. This trip I plan to play some Boner Deluxe (High Volitility due to 2 pair paying 5) as Royal Flusher gave me the fever to play it reading his posts. I had checked on rental car prices and Alamo with the Costo discount was the best I found. Unfortunately for the complete time we were there the price was $219.00. On the other hand if I picked up the car the day after we arrived at 130pm it would only be $69.00 total. I have ridden the SDX to the South outlet mall starting at the fashion show mall and walked the couple of blocks to the car rental terminal. Cost $8 for 24hr pass. Thursday: Couldn't get upgraded to first class on Alaska so coach it was. I always buy the wifi $7.95 to keep me entertained. Flight was uneventful. Upon arrival, I went to Bell Trans as I really wanted to use the VIP shuttle but only wanted to go one way. I had made multiple emails and calls to Bell Trans but never got anyone to answer any questions. I stood in line for about 5 minutes and got to the Bell Trans clerk who knew less about the VIP Shuttle than I did. He did give me a number and when I spoke to them they said yes you can book it one way you just don't fill in the return trip and it's $18 but must be done 24hrs in advance. I will try this next time. Got a cab and first thing I said was "Cheapest route" no tunnel. This got the message across as the tab came to $19 plus tip. So you know if you say "fastest route" it will cost you more go figure.... Got to the TI at about 940am which was a little early for check in. Went to the invited guest's line and had a specific room in mind. Got up to the clerk and asked for a South Strip View king non smoking. Included the folded $20 trick with the ID and credit card. Not sure if she saw it though. She immediately said they were sold out of Strip view rooms and also we couldn't even try to check in until 1000am. I asked her if they had any complimentary upgrades and she abruptly said no. I guess she must have then seen the $20 because she then started typing on the computer. We always ask for floor #25 or 31 as those are the first stops on the elevator. Best views are rooms 010 014 018 they look right down the strip. After some more hmming and hawing we had our room 25th floor looking directly down the strip. We like the TI and in the summer you can get a cheap cabana or round clamshell covered couch pretty cheap. No resort fee for me please as I have an ATT hotspot that I bring that works better anyway. I do like the coupon book you get at check in for Kahunaville 2 breakfasts ie 3 eggs bacon ect. for $14. It's a great deal ad in the summer you can sit out by the pool for the same price. Only serves 7-11am. We then went down and loaded my $100 free play on the card. We have a method of getting the cash out probably not scientific but we have fun with it. We load $25 FP on to the machine add the required $5 and play 50cent 9/6 JoB after playing 10 hands we cash out the ticket then repeat. At the end we usually have all our freeplay in cash which I think we had a little over $100 or so. Put it away to pay for the $69 room for the fourth night. Did the spin to win and got $60 imagine that. Played that using our method and came out with $55. More to come..
