We are going to go to Las Vegas first and last with a visit to Tucson in between. Arriving in LV late Tuesday (June 23rd), we are leaving Friday a.m. driving to Tucson and returning Sunday noon-ish from Tucson to the city of bright lights. Never drove the route before and was looking at Google maps and saw two routes....95 and 93 going to Phoenix and then on to Tucson.

I HAVE driven from Los Angeles to Vegas and don't want to run the risk of a head-on with those anxiously trying to get to the city and give their hard earned $'s away; nor do I wish to have a close encounter with the return trip and all the angst being displayed after losing said hard earned dollars.

It seems each road has a divided highway portion and each has portions with only one lane in each direction. One is 30 minutes (estimated) longer (no big deal).

Anyone know the preferred route? Considering safety, possible stops if needed and construction activity? Any insight appreciated.

You also can consider staying on the 40 to Flag then down the 17 on one of the legs. Adds some time but it gets you up on the rim and it is quite scenic.
