    Hi,

I'm planning a trip for my family of four to Vegas(flying from Dallas), visit Vegas for a day or two and then rent a car and travel to Reno/Lake Tahoe area?

How far is Reno from Vegas? Is it about a 10 hour drive? Is it an easy drive to make?

Any advice or suggestions on driving to Reno from Vegas will be appreciated.

Input from others is good, but I always start with some facts.

Check out google maps and you get about 8 hours

Not sure how many in your group, but I think cheap flights on Southwest run often.

It's about 450 miles and a solid 8 hour drive... many will tell you it's a quicker drive and it can be if you haul ass, as many do. There's nothing between the 2 cities except Tonapah (about half way) and Hawthorne. both are little more than wide spots in the road to fuel up the car and the body. It's easy in the sense that you "own the road", but tedious unless you enjoy your company... miles and miles of sagebrush and two lane road.

Lake Tahoe about 45 minutes south of Reno

I used to live in Reno, back before North Lake Tahoe real estate became HOT.

Lake Tahoe water is cold, even in the summer.

Like I said, expect about a 45 minute to one hour drive to Lake Tahoe and Carson City. You can also drive to San Francisco in three hours, so the wine country is not too far away. When I drove to San Fran I drove fast.

The best part about living in Reno was snow skiing was close. Heavenly and Squaw Valley were great ski places. I loved Squaw as no one was ever on the expert slopes except for me.
