    My Trip Report

For our NYE trip it was originally planned to land NYE at 6:30pm. Called McCarran airport a few days before departure and the lady on the phone said that the NYE storm was still in effect. She did say the weather can change very quickly but she also recommended that if I have the opportunity to change my flight to an earlier one that I should cause "if" the storm does hit it will shut down the airport as they do not have the equipment to handle snow. Decided to not take the chance of not being able to land and changed flights to Dec 30 arrival instead. The extra day in Vegas was a nice bonus but costly. Flights already cost us $1400 for 2, the flight change cost us another $1000.

Got to our home airport and we were the ones to get picked for a security check. They checked our luggage and did swabs of our hands and clothes. Nothing major, just a short inconvenience is all. Landed in Calgary a bit late with very little time to make it through US Customs and security. The security check must have been for the whole trip cause again got swabbed at Calgary US security, or maybe I look suspicious. Just made it in time to the boarding as they where waiting for us and 6 others to get through security. So again left late an landed a bit late in Vegas.

Always have a problem with limo pickup at terminal 3 in Vegas, either they are super late picking us up or don't show at all. So text my host with the terminal door to pick us up at. The limo driver said she has never picked up anyone from that door always at the other end of the terminal. I told her that is the only door we exit from after going through US customs so not sure what the mix up is, and even though we went through US customs in Calgary we still exit out the same east end door. Didn't matter cause she was waiting for us for once, but she was not totally impressed as our flight was 40 minutes late arriving and she was waiting the whole time for us. We gave her a nice tip to help ease her waiting pain.

Off to Palazzo and the Seinna suite. Its a nice suite but prefer the Prima suite on the Venetian side. My host sent us a NYE gift of chocolate covered strawberries and champagne, very nice touch from him, but he is a super guy and always does really nice stuff for us.

Went to the Venetian REO Speedwagon NYE party. Very good event. Was a very nice meal with lots of champagne flowing and an open bar. The opening band that played through supper was pretty good, a good mix of tunes. I'd guess the event held approx 1500 people, a pretty good size. Stayed for about 3 songs from REO, when "Heard it from a friend" starting playing we headed out and back to the casino to do some gambling. They are good but just not our thing.

Did some gambling before heading out to the strip to watch the fireworks, while gambling our host found us and gave us VIP passes to watch the fireworks from the Morels restaurant balcony. The also served very nice appetizers, open bar and champagne. Stood under one of their heater with our host and enjoyed the NYE fireworks. It was a great time. Headed back to the casino and gambling till about 4am.

The weather in Vegas was chilly but not unbearable as we just came from -45c so for us it was chilly but not bad. We didn't need a coat to walk the strip but most people where dressed for fridget temps, I guess to most visitors and locals that is fridget temps. For us it was a nice break from the cold.

The snow storm never did hit the strip, we did notice a few small flakes of snow falling around 8am new years day when we where walking outside but thats it.

Didn't do any major meals the rest of the trip, most meals at Grand Lux, once to Otto's in the V/P mall area, which we really liked, very good Italian food. Once to Giada's to use up our $100 CET celebration dinner, went for lunch, it was also good.

Gambling was a bit tough this time, we had a few ok hits but no hand pays. Took $1200 out of a more chillis machine and $2800 out of an 88 fortunes machine, a $1000 here and there, but nothing totally remarkable. All winning just went back into more gambling. Other than that no big hits but had fun trying for one.

Landed back home and once again got picked for a search. Didn't take to long as we only had carry on luggage and only spent $129 shopping. Arrived to -45c again so back to the deep freeze for us. Doing the count down to the next trip in Feb to Mexico then back to Vegas again in May.

Hope I didn't bore anyone as we are not big partiers anymore when we go to Vegas. After 30 plus trips we like to gamble and get a drink buzz on while gambling but nothing crazy for us. Been there done that and enjoy the more relaxed side now. Thanks for reading.

Thank you for sharing!! I am also one who enjoys staying at V/P - I love that whole property!

I am surprised the airlines charged you to change. Usually when there are weather issues they'll issue travel waivers so customers can change as needed to avoid the weather (and save them the hassle of re-booking and dealing with irrops).

I chuckled at the mention of how it wasn't too cold for you....when I travel to Peru in their wintertime it'll be like 55-60 degrees and they're all bundled up and here I am strolling around in a windbreaker and shorts like its nothing lol

Yikes.....which airline bent you over? I've never paid that much to fly out of YYZ Nd also thought most airlines allow for flight changes due to weather.

Sounds like the perfect way to enjoy the fireworks away from the crowds.

LOL, Westjet bent me over, twice, the nasty buggars. Once for the outrageous initial price of $1400 for 2 then the change fee of $75 per person and the extra flight cost for the change of $450 each.

As for allowances for weather, I told the lady at Westjet that we are changing flights due to weather and she never mentioned anything and I didn't know there was any kind of weather allowances so never thought to ask.

I know for next time if there is a weather next time issue.
