    My Trip Report

Finally getting a little time to write this TR.. After reading all the fabulous Live TR's I thought I might try 1, but that quickly went out the window!!!!

The week leading up to our departure on 10/26 was hell week at work. My company recently merged with another company, so between training and sytem changes, you all get it!!!

We decided to fly out of Newark at night since we had not done since our 1st trip in 2002. (we are both in mid-40's, this was hubby's 8th trip (K) and my 7th trip.) He had been to Vegas over Halloween close to 20 years ago and always said it was no big deal!!! Well, things have changed!!!! Our flight was scheduled to leave at 830ish and about 10 mins before boarding, we see like 5 firetrucks pull up in front of our plane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:grrr: Apparently there was a fuel spill right in front of it!! They had to move our gate and 2 hours later, we are finally on our way to Lost Wages!!

Easy flight (and they did allow for a free cocktail! for the delay!) Arrive safely, off to bag claim & shuttle to car rental terminal. I had been watching car rentals flucuate wildly for the last 3 months, but snagged a mid-size SUV for $175 total for the 6 days.

We were staying at Tuscany Suites (where we got married 3 years earlier) and have stayed 2 other times before. We got there around 2am (5am ET) and we were exhausted!! If you have never been to this resort, its is set up like a college campus in that there are about 10 buildings (3 floors each) spread out. But I always feel safe walking around at night. they placed us on a 2nd floor in 1 of the farthest buildings. By the time we got their, we were just plain wiped and only did the bare minimum of unpacking. We were unceremonisly awaken around 7am by banging above our head. After we got up, we quickly went back to front desk and asked to be moved to any 3rd floor location, no problem! and closer to the main building (where the casino, front desk, cafe & rest & coffee shop are located). Get to our new room, spacious, empty fridge & microwave!! Quick shower and unpack, ready to start the day!

Tues: we were still dragging and go to Marliyn's Cafe for a quick breakfast. Next we need to hit up Walmart for supplies (snacks, waters etc..) K also decided he wanted to hit the outlets for some walking shoes. He wound up getting 2 pairs (he's got BIG feet, where are we gonna put these going home!!) Finally time to grab a cocktail & gamble.. We are fairly low rollers: K mostly roulette and some slots, me mostly slots with some roulette! Cocktails of choice are bloody mary's, mojitos and mimosas w/ a splash of cranberry juice! For that short session (maybe an hour, he was up $50 & I was down $20)

For dinner we gussied up and went to Envy Steakhouse
This a great steakhouse off-strip in the Renaissance Hotel. Very old-school vegas steakhouse feel with dark woods and heavy furniture and spacious. Started with JUMBO!!!! shrimp cocktail served with fresh horseradish which K adores. I had the tomato bisque that was delish! We both had the filet mignons cooked to perfection! We were there a few years ago when they served the steaks w/ a various salt selection and we asked about that. They no longer do that, but the waitress we had knew of it & scrounged up 3 different salts for use to try & take home! Dessert was the sticky toffee pudding (which I heard was fab, but really had no idea what it was).. Its like a spice cake w/ a caramel sauce ( I was thinking pudding..) it was good, but HUGE!!!!! Their wine menu was extensive, but we each had cocktails. Service by all the staff was excellent.

More to come (if anyone is interested...)

Wed... This is Spay Day for me!!!! I look forward all year (or longer sometimes) to spend the day at Canyon Ranch Spa at the Ventian. Aside from the fabulous treatments, there are different rooms (grotto, anti-gravity rooms that are co-ed, so great for couples to spend time together), in the ladies locker room are various rain showers, wet & dry saunas, a herbal sauna that is awesome, igloo room (didnt try that 1) and in the area where the large whirlpool are heated ceramic loungers that are to die for! just so serene to relax from the hustle & bustle of the strip. The have a nice sized bristo right outside the spa area that has a great menu & COCKTAILS!!! I had a pc of grilled salmon w/ avacado that was yummmy! For my treatments I had a personalized aroma salt scrub followed by a moisturizing coccoon wrap. Both therapists were excellent along with all the locker room staff. There is an outdoor hot tub & reg pool by the spa too, but it was a little too cloudy & windy on that day to use.

K went back to our hotel to try & get some rays, but he gave up after 1 hour & 2 mojitos!!

For dinner we decided to go to Maggiano's. We had gotten a gift card awhile ago & brought it w/ us to use 1 night. It is a typical chain, but the wait staff is top notch. K ordered a chicken dish of the Chef Suggestion menu that was served w/ pickled veggies. The chicken was flattened and breaded (which K hates) and was not described on the menu in that fashion. He tried to eat some, but just was not happy. Waiter noticed right away & offered to take it away & get something else. K tried to explain why he didnt like it, but waiter said no explainations needed! He got a fish entree was once again a happy camper!!! Their portions are always so large and i usually take the rest home. I dont agree w/ giving the homeless ppl on the bridges money, but I dont mind giving away my leftovers. Well, we walked for over 2 hours & I didnt see a single person that I could give away these too! smh...

We walked over to Ventian & the Wynn to gamble a little while. I remember winning in Wynn (maybe $50) but K lost about $100, dont recall for the V.

The story about the chicken dish reminded me of a chicken dish I ordered at carlos n charlie's once. The menu description was totally wrong! :confused2:

    Good start so far!

Thurs... I "cashed" in some of my points from MyVegas for a "free" room at MB. We really wanted to spend the day at their lazy river & pool, but once again, fairly cool & breezy. Went to check in around noon, no line, 19th floor. As always, MB never fails to impress! Nice view of the strip, spacious room & comfy bed.. big bathroom. Decided since we couldnt "pool" it that day, go walk this side of strip. Gambled here & I won $100 on roulette (my biggest pot to-date on R)... K did well too. We wandered in and out of Trop., Luxor & Ex. Ended up in NYNY. Now the game plan for dinner that night was to go back to MB, shower & change & go to RMSeafood. Well around 630, at PH (I think) & knew no way we were going to make it back in time for all that. Mosied to NYNY and decided to give Gallaghers a try.

Good steak house inside NYNY hotel but the tables are really on top of each other. We stopped for an unplanned dinner and were dressed very casually, but they had no issues seating us. Hubby started with shrimp cocktail and loved their cocktail sauce with fresh horseradish. Hubby had a filet mignon, requested MR, but came out more on the rare side so had to send it back (which he HATES! doing).. I had the King Crab legs which were excellent. We had a side of Brussel Sprouts that were sooo dry, had them removed. Most of the wait staff were very friendly and upbeat, but 1 of the guys was fairly grumpy (and not just to us). Overall a nice experience and we will consider going back.

After we waddled out of there, just hit a few more casinos and got back to MB around 1am. Over all K wound up about $300 & me down maybe $50... (I said we are not high rollers)

As a side note, we stopped at some of the gift shops on the strip and K had a bag with some items for ppl back home, but apparently left it on the shelf next to where were were sitting in Gallaghers! But he didnt realize it until after we were home for 2 days!!!!!:confused2:

Forgot to mention, K is a big fan of Kounts Kustoms the car show on Discovery (I think)... He also is a big Motley Crue fan. A few years ago, Vince Neil of MC had a bar/rest way off strip called Feelgoods. We drove around and found (we are talking like 5 years ago) but it was closed (think we were there around lunch time). He had read that Danny took Feelgoods over and spruced it up, now called Vamp'd. Drove there on Wed afternoon.. cool rock n roll place, interesting memorabila on the walls and cases, had a drink & he got a t-shirt. Saw some ppl get food that looked good. on the TVs they played all 80's/90's rock videos

Fri.... after a great night sleep, we were still lazy as we didnt want to leave our room!:wink2:

We decided to take a drive out to Red Rock Resort and have a late brunch in their cafe! K had scrumptious pancakes w/ fresh blueberries & I had poached eggs w/ corned beef hash. great food

The casino is so lovely that even losing $ there hurts a tiny bit less!!!! K dropped about $300 & I lost about $150.

We headed back to Tuscany as we were determined to go to RMSeafood back at MB, but we still dilly-dallied & never got there til 10:15. They were already closed!! On a FRI night.. we were very disappointed... We looked at the menus for the sushi place in MB and the Wolfgang Puck rest: Lupo and decided to give Lupo a try and we knew we were doing sushi Sat night.

None of the appetizers looked appealing so we just went for entrees. Hubby ordered the sea bass (I think) and had them change out the vegetable for spinach. He said it was ok, but it was a smaller portion. I had the pasta in a bolognese sauce which was good, but not great. The rest is right outside 1 of the clubs that was transformed for Halloween, so it was very interesting people watching w/ all of the costumes.

Interesting note: for Halloween, most of the casinos had signs posted no one on the casino floor if they were wearing masks that covered your face.

    Called it night around 2am

Final full day & Halloween in LV!!!!

Decided we were going to spend Halloween downtown. Got down there around 3 and it was not too crowded yet. We bought these headbands w/ big eyeballs on top of the antennas, simple but at least it was something!!!

We went to Binions for their HH at Red Sushi (once again another tip from here!)
Great selection for a HH & price, but we ordered some items from reg menu too. Decent reg tuna & salmon rolls. Tried the Poppin Rockin roll, very good!!! Hubby had the Vegas roll & was in heaven. They accidentally gave us the firecracker roll (wow.. spicy!). I tried a peach sake martini, very sweet.. hubby had sake bombs. Group of recently turned 21 YOS were partying it w/ those sake bombs and rolled outta there!!! Ahhh to be young again!!!

I had never been to MSS and kept hearing all kinds of great stories so decided to give it a go.... Not quite what I expected, but we had a grand ole time on a bank of GoldFish slots. A trio of ladies all dolled up w/ wands sat next to us and the 5 of us all got lots of bonues & fish food, hootin and hollering the whole time, drinking like fish!!!! I left there up $100 and k was even..

By the time we go back to the main part of Fremont, it was getting packed by the minute!!!! We wandered n and out of all the main casinos (nice to see Mermaid finally went to TITOs! those nasty nickels were grossing me out!!!)

Lets just say: we saw some "unique" (being PC here!) costumes down here that night, which is what we were hoping for!! Felt bad for the ppl that dress in character costumes for tips down there, not happening this night!! Saw at least 5 women that were a little heavy set, wearing NOTHING but fishnet stockings, thong and pasties on nipples.. Not sure if this was costume or if that is normal down there??? The main theme for costumes were redentions of ppl from "Day of the Dead", some were AWESOME!!!!!! lots of zombies too... My 1 question/concern, a bunch of little kids (3-7 YOS) trying to trick or treat down there?? Not like they can go into the casinos, were they going into the stores?? Parents still had them out at midnight, smh.. It was toooo crowded for them down there... Overall, a great night in DT.. My bad was wearing new shoes and getting a blister on the pinkie toes... Live & learn!

Nice report! And I don't think Halloween on Fremont is for children. If their parents drag them there, they need to brush up on their parenting skills!
