    My Trip Report

    Hello all,

This is my first ever Vegas Message Boards Trip Report so I am going to try to keep it entertaining and not drone on and on. I also have a couple pictures to throw in here and there. I'm going to break down each day into a separate post so its not just one big wall of text. To give you a bit of perspective on myself and my Vegas experience thus far:

    third trip to Vegas
    first time staying at Mirage
first time I personally have rented a car
I am on the younger side (read: under Twenty-Five)
I would also definitely say I am for now a relative Low Roller, brought $1200 to gamble for the three days and only ran through about $600 of it.

This was sort of like three vacations in one, as I was traveling with a diverse group of people. I was traveling with my Girlfriend who we will call E, we flew in on Saturday afternoon. E's parents flew into Vegas on Thursday/Friday and left on Sunday. I then had two Friends fly in on Sunday afternoon staying at Flamingo, one of whom is a member here on VMB and might be forming his own trip report, we will call them L and B.

So there you have it, lets get into the actual day to day break down, I'll try to remember as best I can haha.

Woke up early early early to get to the airport for our 6am flight on United to Chicago. I know, I know, flying far east and then flying to Vegas, that’s just the way the flights were in our price range to get down to Vegas in time for the evening Big Smoke. Luckily E doesn't live too far from the airport so we were there in no time. Line up wasn't too long for US Customs and soon we were drinking some Tim Horton's near our gate waiting to get the trip really underway. Very uneventful flight to Chicago, never been to O'Hare before so it was something different. I like that you can buy a beer from the bar and walk around with it as long as its in a plastic cup. We had maybe a 90 minute layover in O'Hare and soon our United 757-200 was firing down the runway towards Vegas. Had seat back tv on the flight which was a plus for sure.

Just before landing the flight attendants start handing out these weird small boxes with Cosmo branding on them to all the passengers on the flight:

Open it up, and you find a pack of mints as well as five different little cards with offers on them including:
    $25 Freeplay
    2-for-1 Wicked Spoon Buffet
3 nights for the price of 2 at Cosmo
a free drink at one of the bars
and something advertising Bruno Mars new residency? At the Cosmo.

Very nice to have, and I was able to grab two extras out of random seat pockets as I left the plane for L and B so everyone could have $25 free play.

We go grab the shuttle over to the Rental Center and walk past the Alamo counter since I had already checked in online. Grabbed a mid size for $170 for 3 days. While that might not seem like a great deal, take into account that $75 of that is the stupid $25/day under age driver fee thing. Oh well. The Alamo people direct us out to an aisle, we check out the selection, sitting there are a few Corollas, a Hyundai Elantra, Dodge Dart, and a couple Ford Focus, we decide to go for a Ford Focus since it has a sun roof. Check out with the guy in the booth and we're on our way to Mirage.

Self park at Mirage, meet up with E's mom in the check in line. Didn't try the $20 trick, maybe next trip, and we also didn't ask for anything specific so we ended up with a basic room on the 7th floor of Mirage, over looking the back half of Caesar's and the Rio across the interstate. Not the best view I've ever had, but whatever it will do. We schleppe our bags down and head out to Treasure Island to meet up with E's dad at Kahunaville. Had a couple drinks and we all split a platter thing. The food was alright, I can't say I was a HUGE fan of Kahunaville, it certainly wasn't busy in there. E and her mom head off to warm the slot machines up for us, while E's dad and I head back to Mirage to go to the Big Smoke.

We were in line by about 5:30, and we mingled with a couple people around us, two guys both named Robert gave us the sort of crash course on Big Smoke as we both had never been. They said to go for the food first, but since we werent hungry we just started going from booth to booth to grab our smokes. The place filled up quick but we really only waited in two big lines at Rocky Patel and one other sort of random manufacturer. Guiness was there with four different types of beer, and they had tons of different Scotch/Vodka/Cognac companies there giving out smaller glasses of different things. The only time I got questioned all night about my age, was by a chick in a sort of dominatrix outfit. She was like “are you even old enough to be in here?” and then she gives me a couple quick cracks on the ass with her whip thing. Pretty funny encounter, and I had already had a couple drinks in me so I took it in stride. Here are a couple pics from the Big Smoke, I was just using my cell phone camera so they arent the best, but they give you a idea of what the space at Mirage looks like:

and here is the coupon book they give you at the Big Smoke just so you can see:

Left the big smoke about 9pm and went back to the big atrium thing in Mirage to meet up with E and her mom. E's parents were staying at Main Street Station downtown so they went to go grab their rental car and head back down to the hotel. I put all my Big Smoke goodies (36 Cigars by my count :D) in the room and then E and I head out to eat something as we were both feeling a bit peckish. Thought about CPK at Mirage but it was packed so we hit the tram back over to TI. Eat at a random pizza place in there, and played a little bit in some different machines $20 here and there, no big wins or anything so we head back to Mirage and call it a night around midnight or so.

Woke up about 830am and man am I hung over. I think it was all the mixing, between Mai Tai's at Kahunaville and probably 4 different brands of beer consumed last night I could really go for a couple Tylenol. Unfortunately I neglected to bring that with me so down to the gift shop it is. $3.99 for four tablets, which is a pleasant surprise if I'm honest. Pop a couple of those and I'm feeling a bit better, E and I go grab the rental car from self park and head over to Gold Coast to meet E's Parents for breakfast buffet. Well it seemed we sort of got our lines crossed, because E's Parents actually meant Main Street Station for buffet, oh well, we get back in the car and drive down the interstate to downtown. Park at main street, didn't really stuff my self as I was still feeling a bit queasy, but I did have a nice piece of Prime Rib and a couple other things at MSS, overall not a bad buffet. Nothing fancy but it's a decent balance between price and quality.

E's mom has a 12pm flight out of McCarran so we say good by to her parents, give her dad a room key to the Mirage so he can hang out at the pool until he leaves for his 9pm flight out of Vegas. E and I head down to the off strip properties on the south end of Vegas, starting with M Resort. I really liked it in there, the casino is actually fairly big, and they have lots of the newer style slot machines. Didn't do very well on Wonka, but I won my $20 back on Iron Man, played a couple other machines like Monopoly and the like. Walk out of M about even I'd say, and I'd definitely like to stay at M sometime and try their buffet. Kind of a shame it's so far from the strip but it also kind of has its charm.

Next we hit up Silverton, and I thought the casino was on the smaller side. Otherwise it was a decent place, played a bit on the Star Wars and Family Guy slots but no real wins to speak of. Walk out of there down a little bit, but what can ya do. Did a bit of shopping at Target across from Silverton and then head over to South Point.

They had some sort of gun show going on so we were lucky to find a spot at the very end of the parking garage on the second level. I assume everyone was inside the actual gun show because it wasn't really that busy in the South Point. Spot a Michael Jackson slot machine, and I'm drawn right into it. I try to stay away from MJ at our local casinos because I find it to be the chintziest machine, the pay back is pretty shitty in my experience. But I give this one a go, play through about half of my $20 and then hit a bonus for about $15, so that wasn't all bad. Ended up playing the $25 in Iron Man, while E hit a $26 bonus on some random machine by Iron Man. We decide to head out of South Point, and start heading towards McCarran to grab L and B.

We stopped at Albertson's on Flamingo to get a couple tall boys for L and B and some random snacks. We get the text that L and B are waiting for us at T1 pickup so we head out, grabbed them with no problem and off to Flamingo we go. I figured I'd self park at Flamingo and then ultimately move the car over to Mirage after L and B get checked in, no friggen dice. The entire self park is full so we decide to just valet the car at Flamingo and leave it there for the night. L and B do the whole $20 trick thing, and ended up with a suprisingly nice room on the 27th floor of Flamingo, with a view straight north towards TI, Mirage, V/P, and just poking out beyond there was Trump. L and B get changed, we crack a couple tall boys and head over to Mirage to meet up with E's dad. The pool closes at 4:30 so he was standing right by the pool entrance when we walk up. We talk for a little while and he gives us the rest of his left over booze before he heads to the airport. We play a couple machines in Mirage and decide to head down to meet up with L's parents at Bellagio.

Now Bellagio, thats some where I'd love to stay in the future. One of these days I'll stay there. L's parents were happy to see us, we talk a bit and then we head out to Cosmo to get our $25 in free play. Didn't do extremely well with it, but walked out with about $15 off the $25FP. Feeling a bit hungry we go for Earl of Sandwich, devour a sandwich and then buy a couple more tall boys from the ABC store. None of us had a TR card, so we get one of those and we end up with $5 FP. I lose mine in about a second, L/B/E did a bit better than me but no huge wins.

We start our East Strip tour going through, Paris, Bally's, Flamingo, Harrah's, Quad, and Casino Royale. Up and down the entire time, no big wins still. I was surprised how nice Bally's was inside, and its somewhere I wouldn't mind staying if I could get a Jubilee room. We head back to Mirage and E goes up to the room. L, B, and I decide to head back to Bellagio to meet up with L's dad for a bit. We play a little bit here and there and then decide to go for Secret Pizza at Cosmo. The line wasn't too long, paid $8 something for a slice and a solo cup of beer. It goes down well as we're all a bit sauced.

We start heading back to Flamingo, B is tired so he heads up stairs. L and I spot a bank of $1 three-reel Wheel of Fortune machines. Honestly one of my favorite slot machines, and I have to play them while I'm in Vegas as I have yet to see a WoF in any of my local casinos. So L and I sit down, toss twenty bucks in. We start playing, I think max bet was $2 a spin. Play a couple rounds and finally the SPIN logo pops up on my machine. Hit for $125 on the wheel, a very welcome win. Played it down to $130 and cashed out. Meanwhile L gets the SPIN logo and hits for $100ish on the wheel (I'm sure he can correct me on the exact amount it was ;) ).

L and I part ways and I head back to Mirage, we agree to meet at 11am in the lobby of Flamingo.

Not bad for a second day in Vegas.

I always said that after my first trip to Vegas in 2005. Finally stayed there once in 2010. Probably never stay there again. Property is nice, but the atmosphere just didn't do it for me. Spent most of my time at PH and just crashed at Bellagio. FYI...I was in my late 20's when I stayed there.

Looking forward to the rest of this report.
