    Trips to Las Vegas:

    My Trip Report

Haven't been to Vegas since Christmas due to cold and a really bad sinus infection so after seeing 3 doctors AND getting that one "procedure" your doctor recommends when you hit 50 (Love it when they hand you the discharge papers that includes a set of photos to share with friends) I was cleared to head to Vegas.

Left the house around 11am to miss the commute traffic but construction on the I-15 below the Cajon pass delayed me for 30 minutes. It was cloudy in Los Angeles and even rained the night before but once I got to the top of the pass it was sunny but I noticed what looked like smog in the distance that turned out to dust from high winds. I had never seen dust storms this bad in any of my drives to vegas and at times it was like fog and I didn't know where I was. On the last leg heading down the mountain to Primm not only could you not see the resorts when you got to the off ramp you still could not see the buildings from the freeway. I exited here to try and wait it out as at one point it was down to 15 feet of visibility. After an hour I got back on the road and 40 minutes later I pulled into the California. I have 3 comp nights and $40 food credit that would expire so I wanted to use them. Got the east tower (smoker) which was just fine. The rooms looked the same as last time but I know from my trip in November that the beds are new. (when I checked out last November I was one of the last guests on that floor and all the other rooms doors were open and the matresses were stacked against the wall. I was thinking "I missed one hell of a party")

I decided to take a walk down to the El Cortez since I had been driving for 5 hours. Although it's spring I still needed my jacket on even with the sun out. I take a spot on the craps table and buy in for $200. Table is a bit choppy when a lady next to the stick starts shooting and hits 4 numbers so I am ahead. The dice goes around the table and 4 shooters make a combined 21 point so I am down again. The dice changes directions and the shooter is doing good making 6 points so I am ahead again. I make 3 points the it's back to the lady and I am glad I was there as she hit over 10 points! Between me playing max odds (I am a $5 pass line better) and pressing my numbers (I had $75 on the 4) I walked out with $1070.
In case your wondering I took the picture of my chips at the closed table

I began to wander back up fremont street and the guy that was next to recognized me and said he made about $100 but he was only betting the pass line with 3x times odds. I was tired but decided to go into Binions to see if there was any good tables. They had 4 tables open and 2 of them had people all around them but no place bets so I walk over to a table with 3 players on it and there is a number of place bets to I buy in for $100. Well that was a good guess on my part as I cashed out $470 profit.

I make it back to the Cal then walk over the bridge to MSS to play craps there but to my surprise no tables were open (it was 2am) so I go back to the Cal and play for a while but lose. Since it is only 2x odds I didn't lose that much. I lose $125 and so tired I decided to cash in the chips in the morning.

Woke up around 10am and go downstairs to eat. Now I am a coffe person and even sober I look like death warmed over before coffee. Now they are still in the process of renovating the casino and when I went to bed there were blackjack tables next to the cage but now there os floor to ceiling cutains going from what I think is the cage to the noodle shop. I go to the players club booth to get my food vouchers and ask here where the cage is now. She smiles and says there is a small walkway about 6 feet wide that leads to the cage. They also have a promo for me to swipe my card for a mystery multiplier
so I swipe my card and got the highest 50x points!

During breakfast I called a friend of mine who works at Paris as he is off today and comes down to meet me. Since I won the extra money I asked him if there was a show he wanted to see and to my surprise he wanted to see Showstoppers at the Wynn. I get the tickets and we drive down to the strip and check out the Cosmopoliton. Did a bit of slots but lost then walked over to PH and walked around the lace. Forgot how big that mall is. It's now around 5pm and the show starts at 7:30 so we hope into my car and drive down to the Wynn and park. I get the tickets and we decide to eat at Jarden which was pretty good. Got to the theatre with 5 minutes to spare and got center seats with the tech board right behind me. The show has a big cast and live orchestra. About half way through the show one of the cast members sings a solo while coming down to the stage on a crescent moon..well she doesn't come down and they finish the song and then a person announces "Ladies and gentlemen please remain seated as the show is experiencing technical difficulties" Turn out she is stuck up there! So the cast exits the stage and the curtains go down and the house lights come up. After 5 mins the show resumes and it was ok as show tunes are not my thing. We get to the car and exit the Wynn garage and turn left onto LV Blvd and my friend says "go down 2 lights and turn left on Sands." As it turns out Sands turns into Twain Ave and 1 mile later I pull up to his apartment-talk about convient! I said most folks who watched the show still haven't made it back to their hotel yet and your home.

Afterwards I drive back downtown and back to the El Cortez where my favorite dealer Christian is working (He changed his days oss to Sun-Mon) The table was pretty cold so I decided to take a break and play some slots. Now I am playing slots by the players club and open craps table is next to the cage and I can see the box man talking to one of the craps dealers. Now during the time I was playing the table was in a pretty good mood but then a shooter threw the dice and one the dice bounced and hit a player then bounced off the chips tray and landed on the felt. Between the the time it first hit the player and landed on the felt the stickman said "no roll" and the box man said "your not supposed to call that I do" He then started to mutter things to him and then he got mad at my dealer because of the way he was paying me. You see when I play I have bets out that cover every number but seven so every time I press a bet I place a $1 on my odds and if the point hits the dealers get the odds on there tip. My dealer had been doing it the same way everytime by placing the whites in a stack next to my bet and pays me and everyone else then goes back and pays his tip. One one occasion he placed the chips on the right side of my bet instead of the left and the boxman saw that and started to chew him out about it. After that all the dealers became real quiet and that killed the mood. Now I can see the boxman talking to the dealer since no one was on the table and his voice began to get louder and now I can hear him from the other side of the tables. Now I know they are a training casino and they have a very strict process on how things are done but I was shocked when I heard him say "Your not a girl! I am not going to hold your hand." I ended up leaving and realy felt sorry for them.

Spent the rest of the night at MSS playing but losing. I know the dealers there and even though I lost I had a great time.

Woke up around 11am on Wednesday and wandered around trying to re-create my epic win the first night to no avail. Tried a new slot machine called Buffalo Gold that uses the housing as the Britney Spears machine. The main differences between this machine and the 3 other variations is:

If you get 2 animal symbols the first 2 reels and a wild on the 4th reel it counts as a 3 symbol win.
It has a 4 level progressive that can be won at the beginning of the bonus round

When you get 3 coins a wheel comes up to spin with prizes that start with 8 free spins, 10 spins, spins and one of the progressives, and one with spins plus a multiplier for the wild symbols (during the bonus round all wilds are 2x)

During the bonus a random solid gold buffalo will appear on the reels. When you get 3 gold buffalos all the eagle symbols become buffalos. Three more gold buffalos and all the cougars turn to buffalos then the same for the wolf and finally the elk. The only way this will help you is if you is if you get bonus spins during the game.

Went back the El Cortez for dinner around 5:30 and had the prime rib. I had over $70 in comps so another free meal. My dealer starts work at 6pm so I wander over and it's the same boxman and staff as the night before. I start to play and for some reason the box man moves my dealer to the other side of the table-no breaks being run just a position change. I play for about an hour but lose and walk around a bit and as I am about to leave my dealer is going on break so I ask him if everything is ok and he says no. He said if he quits he will let the co-workers know where he is going if he leaves within the next 30 days.

When back to MSS and my usual dealers are there (Kevin & Grant) which is always nice when they greet you by name without looking at your players card. I told them that last night when I got back to my room that I got to see a treat that I can only get in Las Vegas...the locally produced television commercials! Now mind you I an not a snob or anything but I live in Los Angeles and there are a lot of productions companies out here so it may be even cheaper to shoot a commercial in Los Angeles then Las Vegas but boy they are fun to watch. We then spent the next 30 minutes rating the best of the worst in local commercials. Also talked about other properties they worked at and places they miss (after explaining the vibe at the old Western the boxman wishes he could walked in there before it closed) Also found out that sometimes they send them over to the Fremont when they are short handed and I told them that you can mess with your co-workers by showing them the Binions tower and telling them the entire is empty then point up and say "OMG is that a face looking at us!" As you can tell I am an older brother.

Thursday morning I woke up packed up and checked out of the Cal and had 1 $20 food voucher to use so I go over the buffet and notice that it's only $8.99. I look around and the 3 folks in front of me have the hawaiian coupons and the 4 behind me has the same. I get up to the cashier and he says I can't get change and she noticed that a couple with a child got in line and the guy has pulled out his wallet so the cashier puts another buffet on my food credit so I paid it forward.

After lunch I played a little but lost. I gassed up the car at the circle K next to the Stratosphere where I wait for someone to jump off the top on that ride and scream all they way down. The screaming really adds the neighborhood behind the strat. The drive him was uneventful and did hit a bit of traffic but after leaving LV at 1:30 I walked in the door at 6:30.

As for the trip I ended up a little ahead $200. Biggest expense was 2 tanks of gas ($28 in LA and $22 in Vegas) and with today being April1 I now have 3 more comp nights and food credit so I am already planning a return trip :licklips:

Good stuff...congrats on the win! Sucks that the flow at El Co craps table doesn't sound that good. If a table game isn't a fun atmosphere, it's a big turnoff to me.

I agree that Kevin is one of the better dealers at Mss. I'm actually surprised he remembers my name when I play there.

Enjoyed your report. Thanks for posting.

I always get upset when employees (in this case the dealers) get openly reprimanded in front of customers. There are better ways to talk to your employees without humiliating them.

Hope your dealer friend finds a better job if he decides to leave the Elco.

Nice report! I'm shocked to hear that at 2 AM there was no crap table open at MSS.
